Update: Japanese women's star Kana says she decided to sign with WWE because she "was looking for a new challenge" and "the timing felt right."

"Even though I was in Japan the majority of my career, I was always captivated by the allure of WWE and their worldwide appeal. There is no bigger stage in sports entertainment, so it has always been in the back of my mind," Kana told Brian Fritz of Sporting News in an interview.

Kana said she's had conversations with Triple H, who told her that "he was expecting a lot from me, and I want to make him proud."

WWE announced Monday the signing of Japanese women's wrestler Kanako Urai (Kana) to an NXT Developmental contract.

Kana is scheduled to report to the Performance Center in Florida at the end of September.

Kana made an appearance in New York during Summerslam weekend, appearing in the crowd during the "NXT: Takeover" special in Brooklyn.

“We are very excited to have Kana join the NXT roster,” said Triple H. “Her exciting in-ring style will make an immediate impact on the already impressive NXT women’s division.”
