In Brief: While many wrestling fans have dumped their VHS tapes in recent years, others have spent hundreds of dollars to get their favorite Survivor Series events.

The Survivor Series began as the WWF’s “Thanksgiving Day tradition,” first airing on November 26, 1987. Within a couple years, it became the “day before Thanksgiving Day tradition,” and eventually the “some time in November tradition.”

The Survivor Series is one of WWE’s marquee events. Older fans have fond memories of the unique pairings that were put together on four- or five-man teams up until 1992, and plenty of memorable moments have happened since then. As a result, old programs, tickets, and other Survivor Series souvenirs have become hot collectibles over the years.

One of the coolest pieces of Survivor Series memorabilia to sell recently was an autographed poster from the 1990 event. This poster featured 37 autographs from some of the biggest stars of that time, including Hulk Hogan, the Ultimate Warrior, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Roddy Piper, Ted DiBiase, Roddy Piper, and more. This poster sold for a whopping $2,025. An unsigned copy of the poster went for $142.50.

Many fans have abandoned DVDs and VHS tapes, but some older copies that aren’t available through sites like Netflix can fetch big bucks. A factory sealed VHS copy of the 1995 Survivor Series recently sold for $199.99. VHS copies of the infamous 1997 Survivor Series – which produced the Montreal Screwjob – typically sell for $50 to $100, depending on the condition of the tape and case.

Fans who spend thousands of dollars on tickets to sit in the first few rows of big WWE events get to take home a souvenir chair. One from the front row of this year’s event, which features a picture of The Miz, recently sold for $138. A chair from the 2009 Survivor Series featuring a picture of Shawn Michaels and Triple H in DX gear sold for $95. A chair from the 2010 Survivor Series, with a picture of Nexus leader Wade Barrett, sold for $99.

The autographed plaque commemorating C.M. Punk’s win over Alberto Del Rio for the WWE Championship at last year’s Survivor Series has already appreciated in value. When the plaque was first offered last December at WWE.com, it sold for $99.99. On year later, the plaques sometimes sell as high as $150 to $200.

Vintage t-shirts from old Survivor Series events have fetched some surprisingly high prices as well. A shirt from the 1997 Survivor Series, which shows nothing more than four silhouettes and some graffiti-like text, sold for $110.

Collectors are also fond of vintage Survivor Series programs. A program from the 1991 event, which featured The Undertaker’s unexpected victory over Hulk Hogan for the WWF Title, sold for $46. Other popular programs include 1988 ($40), 1989 ($30), 1992 ($30), and 1990 ($20).
