TNA Epics TV Show report
June 5, 2009 - Week 4
Aired on Bravo in the U.K.
Report by Cody Endres, Torch TV contributor

-Following the opening montage, host Mick Foley said that this week we would be looking back at King of the Mountain matches which are the annual main event match of the Slammiversary PPVs. "It's a reverse ladder match that tests a man's intestinal fortitude - something I know a little about," said Foley.

1 -- NWA Champion RON KILLINGS vs. A.J. STYLES vs. JEFF JARRETT vs. RAVEN vs. CHRIS HARRIS -- King of the Mountain match

The graphic listed this match as being from the 2004 Slammiversary PPV. However, there was no Slammiversary PPV in 2004. This match is actually from the June 2 weekly PPV held in Nashville, Tenn. Director of Authority Vince Russo is at ringside for the match. To further explain the rules that Foley mentioned at the beginning of the show, falls count anywhere in this match and you need to have a pinfall to be eligible to climb the ladder and hang the title. If you lose a fall, you must spend two minutes in a penalty box at ringside. Harris hits a tope over the top onto Raven and Killings on the floor. Styles follows this up with a running flip dive over the penalty box to take out all three men. In the ring, Raven attempts the Raven Effect DDT on Killings, but Harris leaps off the penalty box with a clothesline on Raven. Jarrett connects with a crossbody off the top rope, but Styles rolls through for a nearfall. Moments later, Styles hits the Styles Clash on Jarret for a pinfall. Jarrett has to go to the penalty box and Styles is now eligible to climb the ladder. Raven flings the ladder into Styles to stop him. Harris surprises Raven with a spear and pins him. Raven to the penalty box - Harris now eligible.

[Commercial Break]

We've moved ahead in the match. Raven and Jarrett team up to double team Killings and then Styles with a ladder. Raven drop toe holds Jarrett onto a steel chair. Harris climbs the ladder to hang the belt up, but Raven throws powder in his face. Raven quickly follows up with the Raven Effect DDT to become eligible. Killings stops Raven. Jarrett gives Killings The Stroke off the apron onto the guardrail at ringside to pin him. Back in the ring, Jarrett and Russo argue over the title. Styles sneaks up from behind and schoolboys Jarrett for a pin. Styles climbs the ladder, but Raven and Harris throw him off. Harris and Raven climb up and battle atop the ladder. Harris shoves Raven off and sends him through a table set up in the ring. Killings shakes the ladder and sends Harris through a table set up in the corner. Killings is reaching to hang the belt when Jarrett hits him with a guitar and hangs the belt for the win. Jarrett wins the belt for the third time.

WINNER: Jeff Jarrett in 14:40 of what aired to become NWA Champion. During the finish, Killings grabbed the bar that you hang the belt on and actually managed to tear it off as he fell to the mat. Jarrett had to ask the referee to hand him the bar in order to hang the belt up. This went about as slick as the time the big red X fell down during the Ultimate X match. Technical mistake aside, this was a good match.

2 -- NWA Champion A.J. STYLES vs. RAVEN vs. SEAN WALTMAN vs. ABYSS (w/Jim Mitchell) vs. MONTY BROWN -- King of the Mountain match

This match is from the June 19, 2005 Slammiversary PPV held in Orlando, Fla. Championship Committee member Larry Zbyszko is at ringside. Waltman immediately jumps Raven to start the match. Styles connects with a flying headscissors onto Abyss off a ladder. Brown hits The Pounce and pins Raven to send him to the penalty box. Styles with a flip dive to the outside onto Abyss. Waltman spin kicks Styles. Brown pins Waltman after a powerbomb to send the man formerly known as X-Pac to the penalty box. Brown hits the Pounce on Styles, but Raven drags Styles to the floor and pins him out there to become eligible. Raven goes to town on Brown and Abyss with a trashcan. Meanwhile, in the penalty box, Styles and Waltman discuss strategy.

[Commercial Break]

We've jumped ahead in the action again. Abyss pins Brown following a Black Hole Slam to become eligible. Styles hits the Styles Clash on Raven, but Abyss breaks up the pin. Waltman attacks Abyss with a chair at ringside and places him off the table. Styles comes off the top with the Spiral Tap to put Abyss through the table and score a pinfall. Styles climbs to the top of the ladder, but Waltman betrays him and gives him an X-Factor off the ladder. Raven goes after Waltman with a staple gun. Waltman ends up stapling both Raven and Abyss in the crotch. Don West calls it a vasectomy. Waltman and Styles fight atop the ladder and Abyss pushes them both off. Styles bumps onto a table placed at ringside. Abyss climbs the ladder halfway before Brown catches him with a Pounce that sends him through a table in the corner. Raven nails Brown with the Raven Effect DDT and hangs the title for the victory.

WINNER: Raven in 12:42 of what aired to win the NWA Title. Right on par with the first match. Raven held the title all summer until Impact debuted on Spike TV. Raven would end up dropping the title to Jarrett at a BCW show in Canada. As a result, Raven's reign as champion was only seen by the PPV audience and viewers of the Sunshine Network in Florida.

[Commercial Break]

-Host Mick Foley asked what more we could expect from these matches. How about tables, ladders, and turkey legs? "Bring on those turkey legs, Yea!" said Foley. (Note: I have absolutely no idea what in the hell Foley was talking about here. No turkey legs were used in the main event.)

3 -- NWA Champion CHRISTIAN CAGE vs. JEFF JARRETT vs. STING vs. RON KILLINGS vs. ABYSS (w/Jim Mitchell) -- King of the Mountain match

This match is from the June 18, 2006 Slammiversary PPV held in Orlando, Fla. Championship Committee member Larry Zbyszko is at ringside. Christian and Killings team up on Jarrett and then do some silly dance moves. Christian with a cross body off the top onto Jarrett on the floor. Killings connects with a flip dive on them to the outside. Sting leaps off the penalty box and lands on everybody. We skip ahead in the match randomly. Christian surprises Abyss with a schoolboy to become eligible. Jarrett whips Christian into guardrails and a ladder at ringside. Jarrett hits Killings with the Stroke off of the apron onto the guardrail for the pin, just like he did in the first match.

[Commercial Break]

Moving forward in the action we see Abyss shove Killings off the ladder to the floor. In the ruckus, referee Earl Hebner is knocked down. Abyss gives Jarrett the Black Hole Slam. Referee Slick Johnson runs out to count the pin. Abyss climbs the ladder, but Sting pushes him off sending Abyss through multiple tables stacked at ringside. Sting hits Christian with the Stinger Splash and follows up with the Scorpion Deathlock. Jarrett is released from the penalty box and attacks Sting with the title belt. Christian climbs the ladder, but Larry Zbyszko stops him with a low blow. Sting gives Jarrett the Scorpion Deathdrop and uses the lifeless arm of Hebner to count the fall. Sting and Christian battle on the ladder. Referee Hebner gets up and shoves both men off the ladder. Jarrett grabs the belt and quickly hangs it up to capture the title again. Fans absolutely pelt the ring with garbage in anger. While Jarrett celebrates on the ramp, referee Rudy Charles steals the title from him and gives it to Management Director Jim Cornette. The screen fades to black and left us all asking, "Why did I spend my money on this?"

WINNER: Jeff Jarrett in 14:55 of what aired to capture the NWA Title. The "Orlando Screwjob" finish completely ruined this match. I pelted my plasma with some garbage for good measure.
