"Everyone knows by now that I have accepted the invitation to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Everyone also knows that for years I turned it down and I said that for me to ever consider such a thing, they would have to tell the right story. So I want you to know that you have my assurance that the right story is the full story. And the full story is yet to come."

- Ultimate Warrior addressing his fanbase at the conclusion of "The Ultimate Collection" DVD released April 1, 2014.

WWE's latest DVD release, which comes one week before Ultimate Warrior is inducted into their Hall of Fame, is a march through Ultimate Warrior's colorful career. This time, the pendulum has swung to a positive, nostalgic overview of Warrior's career, countering the negative, slamming "Self-Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior" DVD released by WWE in 2005.

The 2014 version also provides an interesting look at where Jim Hellwig ends and Ultimate Warrior begins.

The DVD is formatted with a chronological overview of Warrior's career - Hellwig talks in a sit-down interview, a match/promo/video clip airs, and Hellwig picks up at the next chapter of his career.

Hellwig is the only person who speaks on the DVD, allowing Hellwig to present his version of events throughout his checkered WWF/WCW run. Without a second or third voice providing additional perspective, this is simply Hellwig speaking to his fanbase and somewhat cleansing his conscience re-associating with WWE after two decades of strife.

Hellwig acknowledges his combative relationship with WWE head Vince McMahon, but frames events such as being fired in the early 1990s as simply going home to work on outside projects. He also acknowledges Linda McMahon - who will induct Warrior into the Hall of Fame - brokering a deal for him to return to WWF/E in 1996 after he told off Vince.

The DVD is laid out well with an easy-to-follow trip down memory lane, which includes rare footage of Warrior teaming with Sting, the big matches from his WWF career, and intriguing WWF TV interview segments mixed with the match footage.

Hellwig is mainly subdued recalling events from his career, complimentary of the likes of Andre the Giant, Bobby Heenan, and Randy Savage - who he says he identified with - and has choice words for colleagues who have been critical of him, but does not name names. It's an approachable, non-abrasive Hellwig attempting to deliver his message; his story. But, not the full story.

The timing of the DVD release is interesting. WWE has gathered a vast majority of wrestling's video history via tape library acquisitions, bundled and packaged said history, and released a chunk on the new WWE Network. Many of the Network shows and compilations fit with the Warrior DVD release - for entertainment purposes, mainly, and not for historical perspective.

The historical perspective is provided by those outside the tent analyzing wrestling history objectively. Those inside the tent - which Warrior is now part of - have a DVD platform and now a Network platform to tell their version of events, weaving TV storyline and facts into a new fictional narrative.

At the very end of the DVD, Hellwig said his full story includes how he applied himself outside of the ring to "live up to being the man named Warrior." That is how Hellwig plans to tell the complete story of his career and personal accomplishments that went beyond the "Warrior" character. It's different than what a "full story" would look like if additional voices were included on the DVD.

Overall, the "Ultimate Collection" will bring back a lot of memories for older fans who lived through Warrior's rise, peak at WrestleMania 6 against Hulk Hogan, and various returns after 1990. Or, appeal to newer fans who are captivated by the story of how a snorting, colorful, enigmatic character straight from a comic book became WWF champion.

But, don't expect Hellwig to dwell on the downsides of his career that were well-documented on the "Self-Destruction" DVD. See it as a nostalgic, entertainment-based overview of historical events. Much like what is presented on WWE Network.
