Global Force Wrestling Results
September 3, 2015
Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Report by Carlous Richard, PWTorch correspondent

Global Force Wrestling's tour of minor league ballparks opened Labor Day at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium, the home of the Cedar Rapids Kernels. The home park of the Minnesota Twins Class A Midwest League affiliate has a capacity of about 5,300. The turn-out for this event was considerably smaller. I would guess no more than 300 in attendance, but it was a loud, enthusiastic crowd that was engaged in the action and seemed to enjoy what they were seeing.

There were several merchandise tables set up along the concourse so the talent were able to make some extra money for themselves selling t-shirts, DVDs, and, in ODB's case, her brand of BBQ sauce.

(1) Colt Cabana beat Ariya Daivari with the Chicago Skyline in an entertaining opener. Daivari got the crowd riled up while Cabana worked the crowd with comedy. One of the vocal adult males remembered Daivari's brother from his stint in WWE.

(2) Tommaso Ciampa beat "Too Cocky" Kevin Matthews Based on recent events, it is possible Ciampa's days on the indy circuit may be numbered if he is offered an NXT contract so it was a treat to see him in action.

(3) Mickie James beat ODB in the only face vs. face match-up in the show. Both wrestlers got a lot of vocal support and dueling chants. After the match, ODB offered Mickie a swig from her flask, which she accepted.

Next up, GWF founder Jeff Jarrett addressed the fans. He thanked Des Moines based promotion 3X Wrestling for their help as well as both the Kernels organization and the fans in attendance. The New Heavenly Bodies then interrupted him to talk trash. They then attacked him until the Illinois based indy team of Zero Gravity hit the ring to make the save, setting up the next match.

(4) Zero Gravity (Brett Gakiya & C.J. Esparza) beat the New Heavenly Bodies (Desirable Dustin & Gigolo Justin)

(5) Sonjay Dutt beat D.J. Z. with a top-rope splash.

Tonight's special guest was WWE Hall of Famer "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan. In all my years of attending WWE shows in Cedar Rapids, there are two constants, the fans here root for babyfaces and they love Jim Duggan. Hacksaw got the biggest reaction of the night and cut a pro-military promo until Daivari came back out to talk trash in two languages. After Hacksaw dispatched him, it was on to the main event.

(6) Nick "Magnus" Aldis beat Chris "Masters" Mordetzky. At first the crowd was split as it seemed quite a few people remembered Masters from his time in WWE. As he began to set the tone as the heel, Magnus began to get more support.

After the main event, fans were invited to enter the ring to have a picture taken with Jeff Jarrett and Hacksaw Duggan for 20 bucks.

It was an entertaining night of old-school wrestling where the babyfaces won and the matches were easy to follow. The crowd was a mix of die-hard wrestling fans, young adults, and a few lapsed fans as well. If GFW can get a domestic TV deal, either with a cable network or a streaming service like Netflix or Hulu, they may have a chance to be another alternative to WWE. The key is getting the TV that they have taped seen in the United States.
