WWE NXT Live Results
August 15, 2015
Citrus Springs, Fla.
Report by Marc from New York
While on vacation, I decided to check out an NXT live event about an hour from where I'm staying. For reference, Citrus Springs is over two hours north of Tampa in the middle of nowhere. After a long drive through the forests and swamps I came up on the Citrus Springs Convention Center, a nice but small building. The crowd was around 300 people or so, including an appearance from "Brock Lesnar guy." The show started about 7:30 p.m.
Dasha Fuentes did the ring announcing and was serviceable. The first match was Apollo Crews taking on one of the recruits, who I kid you not dressed in gold shorts and socks with 100 dollar-bill designs.
(1) Apollo Crews beat a recruit. Basic enhancement match for Crews with a standing moonsault to cap it off. Post-match, Tyler Breeze ran in and superkicked Crews.
(2) Enzo Amore & Big Cass beat Jason Jordan & Chad Cable. It was at this point that the incessant heckling from a group behind me got to be insufferable, and I moved to the other side of the building to watch the rest of the show. I don't mind a good one-liner from the crowd at times, but when the jeers are constant and repetitive it takes away from the show. Solid match with Enzo and Cass winning with the assisted frog splash.
(3) Bull Dempsey beat Sawyer Fulton via DQ. Short match with Tyler Breeze causing the DQ with a superkick to Bull. Apollo came out for the save, which led to Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder jumping Crews, which in turn led to Finn Balor coming out to even the odds at three on three. Coincidently the perfect number for a six-man tag to save Balor from having to work a hard match before Takeover.
(4) Lina Fanene going by Nia Jax beat Gianna Daddio, whose entire gimmick is that she is from New Jersey. This wasn't good, and with two extremely green workers it never had a chance to be. The action varied between blown spots and dangerously blown spots. Lina being related to The Rock has some presence but is at least three years away.
(5) The Vaudevillains (Aiden English & Simon Gotch) beat NXT tag champions Blake & Murphy (w/Alexa Bliss) in a non-title match. Match of the Night. Also, a sign that after all of the good NXT women move up, the next calling card for the brand may be its tag teams. NXT has build a solid five team division (Blake & Murphy, Fulton & Dawson, Cass & Enzo, The Vaudevillains, and Gable & Jordan) and these two delivered in their Takeover tune-up match. The Vaudevillains won with the Whirling Dervish. Alexa Bliss is a perfect fit with Blake and Murphy and is a really good heel valet. That act is very close to main roster ready.
[Intermission]
(6) Solomon Crowe beat Levis Valenzuela, Jr. Valenzuela is basically doing a happy Hispanic gimmick. Crowe got tired of his happiness and began to turn heel during the match. Crowe won with the Stretch Muffler, and looked comfortable playing heel. However, he may be too small to play heel on the main WWE roster.
(7) "The Drifter" Elias Sampson beat Riddick Moss. Moss played 1980s WCCW babyface, and Sampson played guitar. Sylvester Lefort played the role of his manager. The gimmick has the potential to be interesting, but it has no depth to it. Sampson won with a flying knee. Decent action but Sampson needs to flesh out the gimmick, and wrestle with a little more aggression.
The main event was the six-man tag set up early in the show.
(8) NXT champion Finn Balor & Bull Dempsey & Apollo Crews beat Sawyer Fulton & Scott Dawson & Tyler Breeze in a six-man tag main event. Total comedy at the beginning, with the heat in the middle and the babyface comeback at the end leading to Balor hitting the Coup de Grace on all three opponents stacked on each other.
Balor was the most over guy and had a lot of fun in a relaxed atmosphere playing to the crowd. Sawyer and Fulton did the majority of the offense and the selling, and Breeze was there to take the pin. Crews played babyface in peril, and Bull got in some comedy spots. The babyfaces celebrated to end the two-hour show.
