WWE Live show results
August 9, 2015
Vancouver, B.C., Canada
Report by VIP member Brad Hainer

A change in venue for WWE for their third show here in a year. The last two shows were in Abbotsford, which is about 70 km from Vancouver. My guess is that they decided to come back to Vancouver after doing good business in Abbotsford, close to selling out both shows.

My estimate would be about 6,500 tonight in a 16,000-seat arena. The lower bowl was about three-fourths full and the floor was sold out. Eden Stiles was the ring announcer for tonight's show.

After the Canadian national anthem, the Roddy Piper tribute video was played followed by a ten bell salute. Roddy Piper will always have a special place in my heart. He was one of the first wrestlers that I watched back in the late '70's and early '80s when I became a wrestling fan. He wrestled here in Vancouver on All-Star Wrestling and all down the West Coast of the United States. Then I followed his career through the wrestling magazines in Georgia, Mid-Atlantic and eventually, the WWF, where he became a superstar.

(1) New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods w/Big E.) won a tag team battle royal for a shot at the WWE Tag Team Titles later in the show. The other teams were Lucha Dragons, The Ascension, Damien Sandow & Curtis Axel, and Heath Slater & Brad Maddox. The order of elimination was as follows: Maddox, Axel, Sandow, Slater, Woods, Konnor, Sin Cara, Viktor, and Kalisto. Big E. was hilarious, serenading the eliminated wrestlers to the back and interfering to win Kofi the match for New Day.

(2) Stardust beat Zack Ryder. Lots of chants of "Cody" when Stardust came out. He got on the mic and said "My name is not Cody, it's Stardust!" Decent action with Zack getting a number of nearfalls before Stardust finished him off with Cross Rhodes. After the match, he asked for a fan sign at ringside which read "#AmellGetsRaw." He proceeded to rip it in half in the ring. I always enjoy watching Cody (I mean Stardust) perform with all his mannerisms and crowd interaction.

A Bray Wyatt promo aired on the big screen at the stage entrance. I could not tell if it was live or pre-taped. The acoustics were absolutely terrible, so I could not make out anything he was saying. The fireflies were out in full force in the crowd, though.

(3) The Miz beat Jimmy Uso. The Miz came out and cut a promo which was unintelligible. I think he was hyping his Christmas movie coming out later this year. More of a comedy match with Miz posing and preening to the crowd. Chants of "Miz is awful" and "We want Mizdow." Miz pinned Uso with his feet on the ropes.

More of Miz bragging after the match, which brought out the Big Show to a huge pop. Miz offered to shake Big Show's hand and was met with a thundering chokeslam. Big Show left with Uso. So, is Show a face or a heel now? I'm confused.

A video aired for Connor's Cure Fund and received a nice round of applause from the crowd.

(4) WWE tag champions Prime Time Players (Titus O'Neil & Darren Young) beat New Day (Xavier Woods & Big E.) to retain the WWE Tag Team Titles. New Day are so good as heels in the way they antagonize the fans with their message of positivity. Huge crowd heat with "New Day sucks" chants. Before the match, Kofi led Xavier and Big E. in a rendition of We Are The Champions to huge boos. Xavier slowly removed his shirt and teased tossing it into the crowd only to give it to Kofi. Absolutely hilarious. The match itself was quite good going about 15 minutes. Darren did most of the selling before hot-tagging Titus in. Titus eventually pinned Xavier to win the match. After, in a nice touch, they posed for a picture with a young fan at ringside with the belts.

-Intermission-

(5) Team PCB (Paige & Charlotte & Becky Lynch) beat Team B.A.D. (Naomi & Sasha Banks & Tamina) in a six-Divas tag match. I am really enjoying watching the Divas division again with the addition of the women from NXT. All six worked very hard and put on a great match. The crowd seemed to appreciate their effort as well. Huge pop for Paige when she came out and Sasha seems to be quite popular as well. Some live Divas matches that I have seen usually consist of the crowd making catcalls at the women wrestling. There was none of that tonight. Paige made Naomi submit to the PTO. A nice celebration in the ring and with the fans by Team PCB after the match.

Rusev came out with Summer Rae to a loud chorus of boos. Once again, I could not make out what he was saying either. Summer Rae then got on the mic which brought out Lana to a good pop. The two had a short scuffle which brought out Dolph Ziggler in street clothes. Rusev and Ziggler went face to face and then brawled briefly. Ziggler gave Rusev a superkick followed by the Zig-Zag. Lana and Ziggler then left the ring together.

(6) Roman Reigns beat Bray Wyatt in a Street Fight as voted by the fans. Reigns got a really good reaction from the crowd, much better than the last time back in March. Of course, Wyatt was over with the crowd as well. A good match that incorporated weapons such as a kendo stick, ring steps, chairs and, of course, tables. Both men took some really good bumps to sell the violent nature of the match. There were several nearfalls which had the crowd, myself included, going unhinged. There was one spot near the end that looked pretty scary. Bray set up a table in the middle of the ring. It looked like he was planning to superplex Roman through it, but Roman reversed it and set up a powerbomb. He looked like he was having difficulty holding up Bray and nearly dropped him walking toward to the table. However, they managed to pull it off and it looked awesome with Bray kicking out at the last second. Reigns eventually finished off Wyatt with the spear to send the crowd home happy.

After the match, Reigns went around ringside and down the aisle signing autographs and posing for pictures with fans.

Overall, a good show. The wrestlers worked hard to entertain the fans. My only complaint was the awful P.A. system that was used. I couldn't really make out anything that was said by the wrestlers. That is half the fun, listening to them try to run down the fans to get heat. I especially enjoyed New Day, the Divas Revolution, Reigns, Wyatt, and Stardust.

- Biggest Pops: Roman Reigns, Big Show, Bray Wyatt, and Team PCB.

- Biggest Heat: Rusev, New Day and The Miz.
