WWE Supershow results
June 18, 2011
E. Rutherford, N.J.
Report by A.J. Maltese of Lodi, N.J., PWTorch reader
I got there around 6:00 p.m. and a WWE employee was handing out a survey about who to feature on a WWE DVD. He saw I was holding a Ryder sign and gave me a look, though. The arena wasn't full at all - an entire side was empty.
(1) Evan Bourne beat Sheamus after Air Bourne. Okay match, nothing great.
(2) Beth Phoenix beat Divas champion Brie Bella in a non-title match. Phoenix hit her finisher for the win. Weak match.
(3) Christian beat Daniel Bryan. Very good match. Second best match of the night. There were a lot of cheers for Christian even though he cut a heel promo saying Jersey sucks!
(4) Intercontinental champion Wade Barrett beat Ezekiel Jackson to retain the IC Title. Barrett won with his feet on the ropes. Bad match.
(5) Big Show beat Alberto Del Rio. Virtual squash match - they had Show pin him in under five minutes.
(6) Sin Cara beat Cody Rhodes. Sin Cara botched a lot of moves, but the got win after a roll-up.
Dance Contest - a little kid won and chose to see Big Show over John Cena.
[Intermission went 15 minutes]
(7) WWE tag champions New Nexus (Michael McGillicutty & David Otunga) beat Santino & Kozlov to retain the WWE Tag Titles. Nexus won via Mike's neckbreaker. No Cobra, sadly.
(8) U.S. champion Kofi Kingston beat Dolph Ziggler to retain the U.S. Title. Match of the night. Kofi won after his finisher. Many good nearfalls. I can't wait for this on the PPV.
The Miz cut a promo, then Alex Riley came out and attacked Miz. Miz also gave his hat to a kid when the kid said he was awesome.
With Miz removed, the main event was changed from an advertised four-way to a triple threat match for the WWE Title.
(9) WWE champion John Cena beat C.M. Punk and R-Truth in a three-way match to retain the WWE Title. There were a lot of "Let's Go Cena" chants, but there were also some "Cena Sucks" and "We Want Ryder" chants. Cena won via Attitude Adjustment to Punk. I didn't think this was good.
Overall, I enjoyed the night. There were many Cena and Punk fans in the crowd. My "We Want Ryder, Not Cena" sign was booed by the Cena fans and cheered by the Broskis. Featured at the merchandise stand were a C.M. Punk Nexus t-shirt, the Big Show DVD, and a WWE cup. This show was exciting, but not as good as the double Smackdown TV taping I went to in 2008.
Biggest Pops:
(1) Cena
(2) Kofi
(3) Christian & A-Ry
(4) Punk (older kids and adults)
(5) Santino
Biggest Heat:
(1) Cena (adults and older kids)
(2) Miz
(3) Truth
(4) Punk
(5) Ziggler
