TNA house show report
November 12, 2010
Nashville, Tenn. at the Asylum
Report by Robert Rich, PWTorch reader

The old Asylum was packed full for the final show at the venue. They opened the doors at 6:30 p.m. with a line circling the whole building to meet Mr. Anderson. Don West was putting over the event and merchandise for sale including a pair of $10 Pope sunglasses that had "$4,000 worth of diamonds" on them. The show started at exactly 7:30 when Jeremy Borash came out to get the crowd excited, which he does a fabulous job of.

They did the usual house show bit where JB says they will hand out backstage passes to the loudest fans, but A.J. Styles came out to an initial loud pop. He said Immortal runs things and there will not be any passes given out. He had a great line, "I and TNA have out grown out of you and this place, so let them tear it down." JB said he may not have anything to say about it, but Raven does. After some banter back and forth, the match was set with the backstage passes on the line. If A.J. won, they wouldn't be given out, but if Raven won they would.

(1) Raven beat TNA TV champion A.J. Styles in a non-title match with backstage passes on the Line. The match started with A.J. stalling after Raven threw him over the top rope after shaking on the match stipulation. The match went outside again where Raven got A.J. in a headlock and took him around ringside where kids gave him nuggies. A.J. took over after rolling in the ring and cutting off Raven as he came in, including a very high jumping elbow drop. Raven eventually made a comeback with closthesline, running knee lift, and tried the corner clothesline into a bulldog, but A.J. shoved him into the corner. A.J. then nailed the springboard forearm after being back dropped onto the ring apron. Raven reversed an Irish Whip and went for an Evenflow DDT, but A.J. reversed out of it to hit the Pele Kick for another two count. A.J. went for the Styles Clash, but was back dropped onto the apron. He tried another springboard move, but got kicked in the gut and Raven hit the Evenflow DDT for the win. Overall: A horrible start to the match was saved by A.J. bumping for Raven's offense and the finish sequence. (*1/2)

(2) TNA Knockouts champion Madison Rayne beat Velvet Sky to retain the Knockouts Title. The beginning of the match was entertaining where they had a grinding contest on the middle rope. The match truly got underway when Sky took control with a headlock. Rayne eventually got loose by raking the eyes and applying a neck vice of her own. Sky was able to get free, but Rayne knocked her back down, put Sky's head between her legs, and did push-ups in a sexual way, causing Sky's face to be slammed into the mat. Sky made a comeback, then did Ultimate Warrior's rope shake, clothesline routine. Rayne almost ran into referee Slick Johnson, then Sky pushed her into Slick, who spanked her. Sky then did a running body press that Rayne rolled through and hooked the tights to get the three count. (1/2* for action, ** for contest.)

(3) Abyss beat Eric Young. The crowd was super behind EY for his entertainment value. The match started with EY trying to bodyslam Abyss, who did not move. EY then tried punches and a body press, but Abyss no-sold it. EY went right back into control with the ten corner punches and tried another body slam, but Abyss fell on top of him. After hitting a suicide dive, EY ran into an Abyss boot. Abyss controlled the next few minutes until EY bit Abyss's fingers to get out of a chokeslam attempt, but he ran right into a chokeslam. EY eventually fought back after hitting a top rope body press and a body slam, then a top rope elbow for a very close nearfall. EY avoided more Abyss moves until falling to the Black Hole Slam. Overall: great monster heel vs. undersized face match. (**) Young was by far the performer of the night interacting with the crowd and helping carry Abyss to a good match.

Jimmy Hart came out and cut a promo on the history of wrestling at the Fairgrounds.

(4) TNA tag champions Motor City Machineguns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) beat Beer Money (James Storm & Robert Roode) and Ink, Inc. (Shannon Moore & Jesse Neal) in a three-team match to retain the TNA Tag Titles. The Guns started off with tag moves working on Roode's arm until the usual Machine Gun Mayhem with great spots before Beer Money took over. The first part was a standard Beer-MCMG match with very little interaction from Ink, Inc. Eventually, the action broke down with Shelley hot-tagging to Jesse Neal. All six men got involved until it eventually settled to a Beer-Ink match. Then action broke down with Beer Money dominating the action and looking great, even hitting an awesome sling shot into DDT combination. However, the Guns tagged back in and hit the Skull and Bones combination for the win. Overall: This was by far the best match of the night. Guns and Beer Money were super over with the crowd and the fans knew what they were seeing was great. This was the only match with an "This is Awesome" chant on the night. (***1/2)

Post-match: James Storm got on the mic and cut a promo on starting his wrestling career here in Nashville. He mentioned he wrestled at the Fairgrounds and he was at the first TNA show. He then put over the TNA tag division as being the best in the world and the MCMG being the best tag team in the world.

[Intermission]

TNA president Dixie Carter was brought to the ring and put over TNA and what the Fairgrounds mean to her and the (Eric Bischoff's?) company.

(5) Jeff Jarrett beat Samoa Joe. Jarrett was cheered when he came out, but the fans quickly turned against him after Joe came out. They chanted, "Joe's going to kill you" and "You sold out." Jarrett got on the mic and cut a good promo on not selling out, but buying in and wanting his company back among other stuff directed to his home crowd. Overall, a decent match with Jarrett trying to stick and move but Joe just ran over him until Jarrett gained control by reversing a powerbomb into an Anklelock. I think Karen was in the crowd with the kids and she seemed to like it. Joe then took over with his usual offense after no-selling a dropkick. Jarrett tried a roll-up, but Joe countered it into his rear naked choke. Jarrett then got to his feet, hit a mule kick, and the Stroke for the win. After the match, Joe gave ref Slick Johnson the Muscle Buster. (**)

Next, Mr. Anderson came out and had the crowd in his hand even before getting the mic lowered to him by JB on a chair. He talked about not yet being cleared to wrestle, so he got a replacement in The Pope for the main event.

(6) TNA World Hvt. champion Jeff Hardy beat "The Pope" D'Angelo Dinero to retain the TNA World Title. The match was very slow early own with a lot of restholds, stalling, and punching. Neither man put forth much effort until the finish when Pope moved out of the way of the Whisper in the Wind and hit the Codebreaker for a nearfall. He then went for his running knee strike, but Hardy hit the Twist of Fate and Swanton for the win. Both workers seemed very lazy and did not put forth much effort. Even though the action was good at moments, it didn't help overcome the other moments. (*1/2)

Overall, very good effort from the wrestlers on the undercard. TNA really did everything they could to keep the fans interested and made a pretty big deal to show appreciation to the fans of the Asylum by constantly having wrestlers at a table and Dixie being with the crowd all night taking pictures and talking to the people.
