IWA Mid-South live event report
February 12, 2005
Highland, Ind.
Report by Chris Vetter, Torch Contributor
What you need to know: Arik Cannon returned, but lost to Delirious! Jimmy Jacobs defeats Joey Envy to win the MPW Universal title! Chris Hero continues to lose in Highland!
IWA-MS returned to Highland, Ind., on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, before 150 fans. Crowd is definitely smaller than recent months. We get underway just after 7 p.m.
(1) Nate Webb defeats Ken Westbrooks at 3:58. Ok match. This is Webb's first IWA-MS match since November, and the crowd chants "Welcome back" at him. This match is all Webb, as he hits a crossbody block. Webb wins it with a Soilent Green is People/ spinning faceplant off his shoulder. Not much to this one.
Tank comes out. He challenges Ian Rotten. Ian agrees to face Tank in the main event, which is now an eight-man tag.
(2) Milanito Collection AT defeats Larry "Sweet N' Sour" Sweeney at 6:35. Milanito is a short Japanese man with blonde hair, goofy tights, and he's walking an invisible dog. Sweeney is kind of a 1980s Hugh Hefner character. This was a good humor match. Milanito hits a headscissors takedown. Sweeney comes back with a butterfly suplex and a vertical suplex. Sweeney does a good job jawing with the crowd. Milanito hits a nice standing moonsault. Sweeney hits a double slingshot suplex for a nearfall. Milanito then wins it with a rollup & bridge. Basic stuff.
NWA promoter (and heel) Ed Chuman comes out and presents Brandon Thomaselli with the NWA Indiana title, which Thomaselli won in a tournament last week. Members of NWA Wildside come out and attack Brandon Thomaselli.
(3) Jimmy Jacobs defeats Joey Envy and Josh Abercrombie at 7:31 to win the MPW Universal Title. Joey and Abercrombie trade quick offense, then hit simultaneous dropkicks on Jacobs. Jacobs, who has been a heel in IWA-MS, lately, tries to convince the crowd he's still a good guy. Jacobs hits a headscissors on Joey on the floor. Abercrombie and Envy are trading good stiff forearms.
Abercrombie has Envy up for a vertical suplex, and Jacobs comes off the corner into a crossbody block on Envy. Cool. Envy hits his Catapult Basement Dropkick on Abercrombie, and a running knee on Jacobs. Jacobs goes for a Contra Code, but Abercrombie blocks it with a Lungblower. With Envy prone on the mat, Abercrombie hits a Phoenix Splash/corkscrew moonsault. Jacobs immediately follows that up with a back senton splash on Joey Envy for the pin. Good match, but short.
After the match, Envy and Jacobs hug. But, Jacobs turns and slaps Abercrombie HARD in the face, and says he doesn't respect him.
(4) Claudio Castognoli defeats Chris Hero in a European Rules match in round 5, at 15:49, via DQ. These are three-minute rounds, with 30-second breaks. It is also best of three falls. The first round is basic mat wrestling. The second round, both guys come out flying with some unique armdrags and ends with Hero hitting a hurricanrana. The crowd is hot for this action.
Castognoli hits a tiltawhirl backbreaker and works on Hero's left arm. Claudio hits Hero with a closed fist behind the ref's back. Castognoli pins Hero at 11:56 with his feet on the ropes. Castognoli throws some hard European uppercuts. Hero scores a pinfall at 13:24 with a rollup. The crowd is chanting "Let's go Hero, Let's go Claudio." Claudio hits a lowblow, but the ref doesn't see it. They trade some really stiff forearms and chops, before Hero hits Claudio with a low blow, causing the DQ.
(5) Silas Young & Eric Priest defeat Shaun Tempers & Ace Rockwell and Dysfunction & TJ Dalton and Icarus & Shane Storm at 8:11 to get a tag title shot. Pretty basic action, as no one is in the ring for too long. In a funny spot, Priest goes to launch off Silas' back to do a plancha on the floor, but he lands (intentionally) in the ropes. Rockwell does a top-rope flip to the floor on everyone. Silas knocks down Dalton in the ring, and does a headstand into an Arabian Press for the pin. Cool.
Intermission
(6) Daizee Haze defeats Mickie Knuckles & MsChif & Cheerleader Melissa & Sara Del Ray & Ariel in a women's elimination match at 18:29 to win the women's title. Very good women's action. Knuckles and Ariel start and trade reversals. Daizee and Melissa enter and trade kicks to the thighs. Haze and MsChif argue on the floor.
At 7:00, Ariel hits a crossbody block from the top rope to the floor. Mickie follows that up with a tope con helo through the ropes onto everybody. MsChif then dives onto everyone. Back in the ring, Cheerleader Melissa pins Knuckles with an inverted brainbuster at 10:38. Sara Del Ray then pins Melissa with a butterfly suplex at 11:43. Daizee pins Aerial with a rollup at 13:28. MsChif pins Sara Del Ray after a DDT at 15:35. Daizee Haze hits a hurricanrana and a missile dropkick on MsChif to score the pin.
(7) Brad Bradley & Trik Davis defeat Chandler McClure & Steve Stone (w/Jim Fannin) at 10:04 to retain the tag titles. Bradley is really ripped right now, and he just overpowers McClure. Trik hits a doublestomp on McClure's chest. Trik slaps Stone, but throws some weak-looking forearms. Chandler beats up Trik, with a nice vertical suplex and a brainbuster. Trik comes back with a headscissors takedown on Stone. Stone hits a hard clothesline on Trik.
At 8:00, Bradley gets the hot tag and hits a sitdown powerbomb on Chandler and a big clothesline on Stone. Bradley then puts Chandler in an ankle lock, and Chandler taps out. The heels beat on Trik & Bradley after the match until Ryan Boz runs out for the save. Jim Fannin holds down Boz, as the heels cut Boz' ponytail.
(8) Delirious pins Arik Cannon at 16:15 to retain the light-heavyweight title. Cannon gets a nice "welcome back" chant. Cannon applies a cravat and hits some deep armdrags. Delirious hits a nice headscissors takedown and bites on Cannon's fingers. Cannon hits a hard backchop and a Hennig necksnap. They trade stiff, clubbing forearms. Cannon, even though the fans appear to be behind him, argues with hecklers. Delirious hits an enziguri, and both men are down.
They trade chops, and Delirious hits several headbutts. Cannon comes back with a Mafia kick, a brainbuster, and a double-arm twisting suplex. Delirious hits his Shadows Over Hell backsplash for a nearfall. Cannon hits a belly-to-back suplex, but he misses his Glimmering Warlock/step-up enziguri, which allows Delirious to roll up Cannon for the pin. Good match.
(9) Danny Daniels defeats Masada at 13:08. Daniels' IWA-MS title is not on the line. This is a battle of former partners in ROH. Daniels hits his doublestomp-senton combo. Masada connects with two consecutive fisherman's suplexes. They brawl on the floor. Back in the ring, Masada hits some stiff back kicks and puts Daniels in a Camel Clutch. Masada hits an Exploder Suplex for a nearfall.
Daniels does a summersault flip from the corner to the floor on Masada. Back in the ring, Daniels suplexes Masada into the corner. Daniels then hits a second-rope piledriver for the pin.
After the match, B.J. Whitmer returns and attacks Daniels, hitting him with a wrist-clutch exploder suplex. Next month, Whitmer vs. Daniels in a dog collar match.

(10) Ian Rotten & Matt Sydal & Brandon Thomaselli & B-Boy defeat (Team Wildside) Vito Thomaselli & Sal Thomaselli & Tank & Todd Sexton at 18:02. Best action of the night. Sexton and Brandon start. Tank refuses initially to get in the ring with Ian. B-Boy kicks Sal hard in the face. The faces briefly work over Sal. Sydal goes for a standing moonsault, but Tank nails him with a HARD clothesline.
Tank misses a Stinger Splash on Sydal, which allowed B-Boy to enter the ring and hit Tank with a running basement dropkick. Brandon Thomaselli is in, and pretty soon, the heels are working over his left leg. B-Boy gets the hot tag and clears the ring. Sydal hits a top-rope corkscrew moonsault onto everyone on the floor. In the ring, B-Boy and Sexton are trading stiff clubbing forearms, then both hit a clothesline and roll to the floor.
This leads to a cool spot, where two wrestlers from each team are in the ring, brawling fast-paced for a minute each. Tank bites Ian's broken hand. The Thomasellis hit a double stomp on Sydal's head, which is elevated a few inches about the mat. OUCH. In quick succession, B-Boy hits his Shining Wizard, Sydal hits his shooting star press, and Brandon Thomaselli hits his 450 splash for simultaneous pins. Excellent match, and a good way to end this show.
Ian announces that in May, they will bring in two rings and a cage, and have a Wargames match vs. Team Wildside.
Final thoughts: Another very good show, despite not having many ''big names'' that have regularly appeared here in recent months. Main event was best, but Cannon-Delirious, Hero-Castognoli, the women's match, and Daniels-Masada all were quite good, too.

QUICK TIPS FOR SENDING RESULTS
If you attend an arena event in future, either house shows or TV tapings, we encourage you to send us a report for publication. You can direct your reports to "matchresults" (@pwtorch.com) .
We accept reports in any format, but if it's not much trouble, please format your report like you see above, with the matches numbered like this (1) , (2) , (3) , with the opening line of each match paragraph stating who over whom (don't just say Wrestler A vs. Wrestler beat with the result listed later; instead, state up front who won so those readers who don't have time to read the entire report (i. e. their boss walks past their cubicle all the time looking over their shoulder) can at least quickly assess the results.
Also, please list tag teams using the "&" symbol as opposed to stating "and. " Reserve use of "and" when listing results in a three-way or four-way match where there are no teams (i. e. "Wrestler A over Wrestler B and Wrestler C in a three-way match") so it is easy to differentiate a handicap match from a three-way match.
If you know HTML coding for bolding, you can also bold out the first line of each match description. If you don't know HTML symbols, then we can add those ourselves.
Special thanks to everyone who helps us with reports on live events!
