WWE Smackdown review
February 12, 2015
Taped 2/10/15 in Dayton, Ohio
Aired on SyFy
By Greg Parks, PWTorch Columnist (Twitter: @gregmparks)

- WWE Open.

- The Usos, Los Matadores, The Ascension, Titus O’Neil, Heath Slater, Damien Mizdow and The Miz were talking amongst themselves backstage. Kane and Big Show were at the head of the group. Kane said tonight, they’d be bringing back a type of match pioneered by Pat Patterson: A tag-team turmoil match. Kane set the ground rules and said the match will start with Roman Reigns & Daniel Bryan. The wrestlers buzzed about that. Big Show told the teams to grab the bull by the horns, which led to El Torito trying to charge at Show, with Los Matadores holding him back. Kane went through all the teams and listed why they have a chance to win. The teams seemed hyped and ready to go while Kane and Show appeared pleased at that development.

- Smackdown Open.

- After fireworks shot off inside the arena, Bray Wyatt’s full entrance took place. Even Truth got time during his entrance to give multiple “what’s up!” shout-outs to the crowd. The announcers were shown on-camera for the first time during Truth’s entrance.

1 – BRAY WYATT vs. R-TRUTH

Truth landed a couple right hands, but an uppercut by Wyatt stopped Truth. Truth low-bridged Wyatt out of the ring, then brought him throat-first across the top rope. Wyatt took over outside the ring. He worked the ribs and chest area of Truth. Truth made his comeback and his spinning forearm got two at 3:30. Jaw-breaker from Truth, but Wyatt nailed Truth with a hard clothesline. After the crab-walk, Wyatt delivered Sister Abigail for the win.

WINNER: Wyatt, at 4:31. Guys like Truth are who should be used in roles like this. It’s worth having lower-card wrestlers like him around, who can bump for the heels, but won’t lose any upward momentum by losing.

A few replays of the match were shown.

- Tonight, we’ll get a look at Rusev’s “tribute” to John Cena from Raw.

- Paige was walking backstage. She spooked a production assistant, then gave him a hug. Oh that loveable Paige. She’s in action next.

[Commercial Break]

- Summer Rae was in the ring out of break, awaiting her opponent.

2 – SUMMER RAE vs. PAIGE

As Paige came to the ring, they recapped, via video, the last two weeks’ happenings between Paige and The Bellas. The Bellas magically appeared at the announce table after the recap. The ladies traded reversals, with Paige ultimately kicking Summer down. This match was worth watching for Michael Cole referring to Paige as a Total Divas “newbie.” Paige kneed Summer in the mid-section a number of times. She was clearly focused on The Bellas at ringside. Summer used her legs to twist Paige up. Clotheslines by Paige, then a dropkick. Superkick found the mark. PTO applied for the win.

WINNER: Paige, via submission, at 2:58. The Bellas were completely insufferable (likely on purpose) on commentary. These Diva storylines are just the worst.

A graphic for Paige vs. Nikki Bella at Fastlane was shown.

- The announcers, shown at a different camera angle than usual, threw it to part of the Rusev-John Cena segment from Raw. Cole said doctors have diagnosed Cena with a scratched cornea. A graphic for Cena vs. Rusev at Fastlane aired.

- Another Fastlane match, Roman Reigns vs. Daniel Bryan, received the graphic-and-discussion treatment.

- Before Fastlane, Reigns and Bryan team up tonight for Tag Team Turmoil.

[Commercial Break]

- A video package aired touting Sheamus’ return.

- The announcers were shown on-camera as they announced that Rikishi would be inducted into the 2015 WWE Hall-of-Fame. I guess he’s not important enough for his video package to be re-shown on Smackdown.

3 – FANDANGO vs. ADAM ROSE

As Rose came to the ring, they replayed Rose’s (mis-)trust fall from Smackdown last week, and his subsequent overreaction. He didn’t do it this week, instead sending the Rosebuds away from ringside. No entrance for Fandango. Once the match began, Rose went to ringside to chastise the Rosebuds. Fandango tried to take advantage, but couldn’t. Byron Saxton claimed Rose was the “caretaker” of the Rosebuds. Short-arm clothesline by Rose. Rose worked a chin-lock mid-ring. Fandango suplexed out and then powerslammed Rose. To the top went Fandango, where he connected on the leg-drop for the win.

WINNER: Fandango, at 2:40. I know I shouldn’t, but I really like the reboot of Fandango. It’s my guilty pleasure.

A few Rosebuds were punished physically for attempting to help Rose after the match. Rose walked to the back alone, leaving the Rosebuds at ringside.

- Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan will have to work together in a Tag Team Turmoil match tonight.

- Next, from Raw, we’ll see if Sting has accepted Triple H’s invitation for a confrontation at Fastlane.

[Commercial Break]

- Saxton thanked Kid Ink for “Faster,” the official Fastlane theme.

- The announcers tossed it to the segment from Raw wherein Triple H demanded an answer from Sting. And Sting answered.

- A graphic was shown for Triple H and Sting’s face-to-face at Fastlane.

- Daniel Bryan came out. As he did, they showed Bryan accidentally dropkicking Roman Reigns on Raw, and the angry response that came from Reigns. Tag Team Turmoil is next.

[Commercial Break]

- At Raw, Dusty Rhodes will be on the show to address the situation going on with his two sons.

- Roman Reigns made his entrance through the crowd. They went back to last Monday with Reigns tagging himself in to get the pin in a tag match where he teamed with Bryan. The culmination of the angst was Reigns spearing Bryan. They again showed the Bryan vs. Reigns Fastlane graphic

4 – TAG TEAM TURMOIL MATCH

4a – DANIEL BRYAN & ROMAN REIGNS vs. THE MIZ & DAMIEN MIZDOW

Miz was taken down by Bryan and kicked in the back. Bryan began jawing with Reigns already and tagged Reigns in. Reigns took Miz down and slapped Bryan on the back to tag him back in. The crowd wanted Mizdow, and Miz actually tagged him in. Knee-lift by Mizdow, then a back-breaker, neck-breaker combo. Miz tagged himself back in but missed a corner clothesline. Bryan did not miss a corner dropkick. On second attempt, Reigns tagged himself in and landed a nice Superman punch. He set up for the spear but Bryan tagged in and hit the running knee for the pin.

WINNERS: Bryan and Reigns, at 2:18 of the segment.

- The Usos made their entrance for the next part of the Turmoil match, after the break.

[Commercial Break]

4b – DANIEL BRYAN & ROMAN REIGNS vs. THE USOS

The show returned with the match not having begun yet. In a split-screen, they replayed the elimination of Miz and Mizdow. Jey worked the arm of Bryan, but Bryan suplexed Uso and stomped on the elbow of Jey. Jimmy made the blind tag and a double-team took Bryan down for a two-count. Reigns asked for a tag and Bryan reluctantly gave him one. The paced slowed down with Reigns and the Usos perhaps hesitating to lock up due to their shared family heritage. Jimmy got Reigns off-balance, and Jey took Reigns down coming off the second rope. Reigns was sent outside the ring. He regrouped, by himself, at ringside. A discussion was had and Bryan came in. Bryan began to work the leg of Jimmy and applied a potential submission maneuver. Uso with a chop, Bryan with an uppercut. Bryan then took advantage and kicked at Jimmy in the corner. Bryan continued work on the leg there. The Usos used frequent tags to take over the match. Bryan exited the ring for a break as Reigns egged him on to get back in at 7:35 of the match.

[Commercial Break]

Back at 11:57 with Reigns taking one of the Usos down with a rear waist-lock. Vertical suplex followed. Bryans tagged himself in and showed Reigns a suplex of his own, of the double under-hook variety. Jey Uso fought back and ran butt-first into Bryan in the corner. Overhead wrist-lock applied by Jey. Jimmy tagged in as they isolated Bryan. Diving headbutt by Jimmy for two. Chop in the corner from Jimmy. Bryan made his comeback and even made a real tag to Reigns. Running boot by Reigns to Jimmy for two. Rear chin-lock then applied. Reigns ran over Jimmy with a clothesline, leaving him flattened like a pancake. We even got a double-team from Reigns and Bryan. Jey missed a corner charge, ramming his shoulder into the post. Bryan aggressively kicked at Jey outside the ring, to the point that Reigns pulled him off. “He’s hurt!” shouted Reigns. “We gotta win!” countered Bryan. The two continued arguing as they cut to break at 18:18 of the match.

[Commercial Break]

The show returned at 22:11 of this match. Bryan was pretty much torturing and punishing the Usos in the ring while Reigns tried to talk him out of it, as they are family after all. A Samoan drop turned the tide. Jimmy made the tag and went hard after Bryan. Bubba Bomb, followed by a blind tag by Jey. He came off the top with a cross-body, but Reigns pulled Jey off the pin. Jimmy wasn’t happy and questioned Reigns about it. Apparently he didn’t like the answer, because he punched Reigns. Kick to the head by Jimmy, but Bryan caught him with a dropkick. Jey dove onto Reigns outside the ring, then gave Bryan a superkick to the gut, but Bryan got his knees up on a splash attempt. Yes Lock hooked in for the submission win.

WINNERS: Bryan and Reigns, at 26:33 of the segment.

Bryan kept the move on until Reigns came in to break it up. They argued heading into break.

[Commercial Break]

- The Sheamus return video aired again.

4c – DANIEL BRYAN & ROMAN REIGNS vs. LOS MATADORES

Bryan stretched one of the matadors with a surfboard. Fernando was stuck on the top rope, where Bryan brought him down with a double under-hook slam. That tap-out was quick.

WINNERS: Bryan and Reigns, at 2:31 of the segment.

4d – DANIEL BRYAN & ROMAN REIGNS vs. SLATER GATOR

Bryan was going to start this match after being in for the entirety of the last one, but Reigns tagged himself in. He took Slater down with a big right, then a big clothesline. Reigns drove O’Neil off the apron, then dropped Slater again. Titus walked into a Superman punch. Spear to Slater for the pin.

WINNERS: Bryan and Reigns, at 1:00 of the segment.

More of the Turmoil after the break.

[Commercial Break]

4e – DANIEL BRYAN & ROMAN REIGNS vs. THE ASCENSION

Bryan fought out of the heel corner and delivered kicks to Viktor. Konnor low-bridged Bryan out of the ring. A double-team commenced there but Reigns came over to help. He was beaten down, too. Reigns was thrown over the announce table and to the floor. They went back to working over Bryan. They tossed Bryan into the ring post as the ref looked like he may have been calling off the match, though there was no bell. They were obviously out there longer than a ten-count. Konnor put Bryan back into the ring, where he was given the Fall of Man treatment. The ref said The Ascension was disqualified.

WINNERS: Bryan and Reigns, via disqualification, at 1:51 of the segment.

Reigns was brought back in as another official got involved, and a few more. They got more physically involved than referees usually do. Big Show’s music played and he walked out with a ring introduction. Kane followed, so I guess they’re the next (last?) team. Bryan and Reigns were still down in the ring. Kane and Big Show approached the ring heading into break.

[Commercial Break]

4f – DANIEL BRYAN & ROMAN REIGNS vs. THE BIG SHOW & KANE

Reigns and Bryan were looking worse for the wear once the match began. Reigns elbowed out of a hammerlock and clotheslined Kane. However, Reigns couldn’t capitalize. Bryan tagged in and ran into a big boot. Show came in and slapped Bryan across the chest. Outside the ring, Bryan was driven head-first into the steel post. Show lifted Bryan over his head and tossed him back into the ring. Bodyslam by Show, followed by some standing. Kane and Show both worked Bryan over in the heel corner. Sidewalk slam by Kane for a two-count. Show and Kane then showed that maybe they’re not on the same page. Show had Bryan for the chokeslam, but Bryan kicked away and DDT’d Show. Bryan crawled for a tag, but Show dove onto Bryan to prevent it. A pin attempt was made, but Bryan kicked out at 5:29. Show and Kane again began to argue. Kane told Show to finish him. “I’m havin’ fun!” replied Show. The crowd began a “you sold out” chant. As Show climbed the middle rope, Kane tagged himself. in. “That’s rude,” said Show. Kane turned around into a Yes Lock. Show broke it up. Reigns tried to come in, which allowed Show to bring Kane over to his corner to tag himself in. Show prevented another tag with a headbutt. A chokeslam was signaled, but Bryan countered it into a Yes Lock. Kane broke it up this time. He yelled at Show and the two went at it verbally again. Kane turned Show around and Show gave him a right hand. Spear from Reigns, then a running knee from Bryan for the win.

WINNERS: Bryan and Reigns, at 9:03 of the segment.

The finish of the match was replayed. Bryan and Reigns both leaned on the top rope, looking at the Wrestlemania sign. A close-up of Bryan ended the show.
