WWE Tough Enough TV Report
August 25, 2015
Week 10 on USA Network
Report by James Caldwell, PWTorch assistant editor
The season finale of Tough Enough opened with a flashback to four months ago when Triple H delivered a message introducing this season of Tough Enough. WWE flashed through the video entry submissions from the 13 contestants, then flashed through the eliminations leading to tonight's Final Four.
Live from Full Sail University, Chris Jericho and Renee Young were standing by to introduce the season finale. Jericho, in a suit & tie, hyped four matches tonight featuring the four finalists. Jericho and Renee then introduced the judges - Daniel Bryan, The Miz, and Paige.
Off to the Tough Enough house from during the week to visit the finalists. Amanda, Sara, Z.Z., and Josh were shown hanging out at the house. Amanda said she's not going to let Sara beat her for a $250,000 contract. Z.Z. was pretty reserved and calm, while Josh sounded confident that he's going to win.
Amanda tried to stir the pot about Sara having some sort of crazy background. Sara said Amanda is trying to make this personal by making up things, trying to throw her off.
Off to the ring for training and preparation for a live match on the Tough Enough finals. Jericho, Booker T, Billy Gunn, and Lita talked them up, then Jericho quizzed the contestants on what their gear and look is going to be for the finals. Jericho added that each contestant has to cut a promo before their match.
Back at the house, the finalists were shown preparing for their match, then Billy Gunn came running in with the bullhorn. Gunn, Booker, and Lita were on the scene to address the contestants. They informed them that Cesaro and Alicia Fox will be their opponents on the finals. Both Superstars walked in to address the finalists on their match.
Up First: Amanda vs. Alicia Fox.
[Commercial Break]
Back at Full Sail, Byron Saxton was standing by in the ring to introduce the opening match. Booker, Gunn, and Lita were in the tower overseeing the ring. Jericho was standing by with the judges, then Saxton introduced Amanda, debuting as "Mandy Rose." Amanda walked out looking like Ashley Massaro. She took the mic in the ring and described this as the most rewarding competition of her life. She said that was Amanda talking. As for Mandy Rose, she hyped a huge party tonight for everyone. Except for The Miz, who saved her weeks ago. Mandy sounded a lot like Amanda. Alicia Fox then came out as her opponent.
1 -- ALICIA FOX vs. MANDY ROSE (AMANDA)
Lots of tackling early on. It wasn't clear if "Mandy" was supposed to be the babyface, but the crowd tried to rally with a "Mandy" chant. Fox dropped her with a sidewalk slam for a nearfall, then the screen went black. Apparently there was a wardrobe malfunction. Mandy delivered kind of a head scissors take down, then rolled up Fox for a one count. Fox smashed her with a clothesline, which Amanda sold as if she really took it on the chin. Fox missed the follow-up, then Mandy tried her running bulldog finisher, which only got a two count. Mandy "lost focus," then Fox hit her axe kick finisher for the win.
WINNER: Fox at 2:41.
Post-match, Amanda faced the panelists to evaluate the match. Jericho said they really hit each other hard out there. Miz said there was good and bad in the match. Paige said she looks like a Diva, and didn't let things upset her. D-Bryan said the match was sloppy, but they made up for it with intensity.
Up Next: Sara Lee faces Alicia Fox.
[Commercial Break]
In-ring: Byron Saxton was standing by to introduce the next Divas match as Alicia Fox hung out in the corner of the ring. Byron introduced Sara Lee, debuting as "Hope." Sara bounced out to the ring dressed like an All-American Girl and posed for the crowd.
Sara took the mic from Saxton and said for the past ten weeks, you have known Sara Lee, but tonight she is Hope. She said that after each time in the Bottom 3, she has become stronger and more determined to prove that she belongs here. Sara said that tonight after this match, Alicia Fox will be a footnote to her career. Fox smiled and took the playful pre-match jab in stride.
2 -- ALICIA FOX vs. HOPE (SARA LEE)
Fox started with a shove, then Sara stood up to fight back. Sara grabbed a headlock, worked it a bit, fought off Fox, and landed a knock down. Fox recoiled to the corner, then Hope landed kicks to the gut. Hope shoved a boot to the throat, then backed out at a three count. Hope charged, but Fox tackled her. Fox then chucked Hope across the ring, but Hope got up to "Hope, Hope" chants. Fox then snapped of a suplex, continuing to wear down Hope.
Fox played to the booing crowd as Hope recovered, then Hope grabbed Fox from behind and rolled her up for a two count. Hope then snapped off a Russian Legsweep for a two count. Hope then tried her submission finisher, but Fox was too close to the ropes. Fox used heel tactics behind the ref's back, then she nailed her axe kick finisher to Hope. Fox covered her for the three count.
WINNER: Fox at 2:30.
Post-match, Hope/Amanda stood in front of the judges. Miz said her promo was actually pretty good, she needs to upgrade the wardrobe, and she was not bad in the ring. Sara's toughest critic, Paige, said her entrance was pretty dull, and she was pretty good in the ring. D-Bryan said her entrance didn't bring much energy, but her promo was good and she did good things in the ring.
Jericho then brought out Amanda to stand with Sara. He said voting for the female finalist begins now.
[Commercial Break]
Back at Full Sail, Jericho and Renee hyped the final vote. Jericho said they're going to find out right now who the winner is.
Drumroll, please. The results came in with ... Jericho said they will reveal the winner at the end of the show. What a heel. "Y2J" chant from the crowd popping for the game-show swerve.
Renee followed up that the males will now compete for the audience's vote. They showed a Before/After on Z.Z., who looked slightly less pudgy and slightly less tan. So, a wash?
In-ring: Byron Saxton introduced Z.Z., wrestling as The King of the Bayou. A little beat, then some rock brought out Z.Z. sporting a giant gator head. Very slow walk down to the stage to play to the crowd. Z.Z. played to the judges, then slowly made his way into the ring to reveal a bit of a Samoa Joe-inspired look.
Z.Z. took the mic and told a story about getting too good at wrestling gators, so he thought he would try his hand at wrestling people. He shouted out to his Baby Gators, then the coaches on the tower. Z.Z. said he answered all of the questions about whether he is Tough Enough. But, he has a question for Cesaro. Cesaro's music played before Z.Z. could finish his question. Cesaro hit the ring and posed in front of Z.Z. before the bell sounded.
3 -- CESARO vs. "KING OF THE BAYOU" Z.Z.
Hot start to the match with an exchange of control. Cesaro then dead-lifted Z.Z. into the air for a bodyslam. "Z.Z." chant as Cesaro lifted him up for a big uppercut. Cesaro then put Z.Z. in the Big Swing, which was an impressive feat lifting the gator man into the air. Cesaro then applied a submission hold, but Z.Z. fought out and fought back with an uppercut. Z.Z. tried a schoolboy, but Cesaro kicked out. Flapjack from Z.Z. He called for the gator grip, then tried his finisher, but Cesaro reversed into the Crossface for a quick tap-out.
WINNER: Cesaro via submission at 1:48.
Post-match, Z.Z. stood in front of the judges. Bryan said he did a wonderful job. Paige said she thought Z.Z. could have shown a lot of personality on the stage. Miz said he's not sure Z.Z. can last longer than a few minutes in the ring, revisiting the season-long criticism of Z.Z. not working hard enough. It's as if Paige and Miz were produced to highlight the negatives, which was out of balance with Z.Z. actually not doing bad out there. Renee rushed them to break. Apparently Z.Z.'s entrance went long and they had to rush the segment.
[Commercial Break]
Back from break, WWE ran a much better Before/After on Josh.
In-ring: Byron Saxton introduced Josh, going by The Yeti. Out came Josh doing his Yeti call to a rap beat. Josh high-fived the judges, dropped his fur, and took the mic in the ring. Josh, wrestling in biker shorts that appeared to be purchased at a cheap department store, said it's been a long ten weeks. He said the audience kept him here for a reason, then asked for Yeti Nation to stand up and help him pay back Cesaro. No kneepads for Josh, also.
4 -- CESARO vs. "THE YETI" JOSH
Lock-up between the two big men. Power struggle. Cesaro eventually drove Josh to the corner, but Josh fired back with an uppercut. Cesaro came back with a real uppercut, then brushed this man aside. Cesaro stood over Josh, then went for a big suplex, but Josh blocked. Josh then found himself in the Big Swing for multiple revolutions. Cesaro taunted the crowd as Josh sold, then Josh lost himself a bit in the ring. Josh did the Yeti Call, then landed a corner clothesline. Josh followed with a running powerslam, but Cesaro kicked out at two. Josh sold frustration, then Cesaro caught him with a dropkick. Cesaro followed with The Neutralizer, which was good for the win.
WINNER: Cesaro at 2:31.
Post-match, Josh stood in front of the judges. Jericho quickly got a criticism out of the way that Josh's match was choppy, but he looks like a star (except for the biker shorts). Miz said he hates Josh's outfit, it was choppy, but he likes his intensity in the ring and he looks like a star. Paige said she thought the promo was weak, but he's her pick to win. D-Bryan said he thought the promo started weak, he had his good and bad in the ring, and he thought Z.Z. performed well, so he's curious how the voting goes. Opposite of the Z.Z. evaluation, it sounded like Miz and Paige were produced to quickly get the negatives out of the way before highlighting positives.
Jericho then brought out Z.Z. to stand next to Josh for the final evaluation.
[Commercial Break]
Back at Full Sail, Jericho said the voting is over and they will now find out the male and female winners of Tough Enough.
Jericho then brought out Triple H to give out the winning contracts. Hunter emerged on-stage and shook hands with each of the finalists before holding up two contracts. Hunter said he has a half-million dollars in his hands and he's anxious to find out who the future is going to be.
For the ladies first. Jericho said the winner is .... Sara with 64 percent of the vote to Amanda's 36 percent. Amanda made a frowny face and Sara celebrated before shaking hands with Hunter, who handed her a contract and posed. Sara remained standing next to Hunter as she tried to gather her emotions.
And for the males. Jericho said the winner is .... Josh with 70 percent to Z.Z.'s 30 percent. Stunning gap in the vote. Josh, looking like a goof in his trunks, high-fived Hunter. The coaches and judges then hit the stage to celebrate with the winners and finalists. Hunter then got everyone organized for a final photo-op with Sara and Josh. Jericho signed off for this season of Tough Enough.
Only fitting that this season ended with a guy in the worst-looking biker shorts ever seen on national TV won a $250,000 contract. On the female side, Sara could be the next Bailey with a full year of training and working with the Performance Center staff. Strong upside for both, if Josh can find some help in the wardrobe department.
