WWE Raw Supershow Results
October 10, 2011 - Episode #958
Live in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Aired on USA Network
Report by James Caldwell, PWTorch assistant editor
This week's live WWE Raw Supershow started with a three-minute video package recapping the walk-out angle that concluded last week's Raw. Apparently the production truck is working today. They cut to a live shot of the arena, where the announce table was empty. WWE then cut to a backstage shot of an empty locker room area with a few PAs milling around. Triple H then emerged from his locker room, looked around, and started walking down the hallway. Hunter walked through the gorilla position, which was also empty, and his music played.
Hunter slowly walked out on-stage and surveyed the crowd before entering the ring to grab a mic. Hunter said he showed up tonight and apparently the fans showed up. Hunter said he stood in this ring a week ago bewildered, seeing someone he never thought he would see: 55 Superstars, camera guys, techs, referees, and announcers walked out on him. The fans booed. He said he never thought he would see it. Hunter said they didn't walk out on him, but the audience. He said those Superstars now stand outside in the parking lot holding a Solidarity Rally. Hunter mocked them saying WWE is too hard now. He said they all have their wrestling gear, but not one of them is going to step in the building to perform for them...unless he steps down as COO.
Hunter polled the audience on what he should do and they said he shouldn't quit. Hunter said maybe he should just go, which drew boos. Hunter said he's just never been a quitter, though. It's not in him. "I just - I will not quit," he stammered. Hunter entered The Game mode and shouted that he will not be coerced, blackmailed, and will not quit. So, what that means is all the guys in the parking lots should pucker up and kiss his cheeks. Hunter ripped off his jacket and said he'll wrestle a broomstick for two hours if he has to and he'll get a better match out of the broomstick than some of the guys in the parking lot. Hunter shouted that he is giving everyone a show tonight.
Suddenly, John Cena's music hit to bring out the former WWE champion. Cena stood on-stage and shot a stern look into the crowd before telling the on-stage cameraman that it's about to get serious. Cena stormed the ring, grabbed a mic, wiped his head, and looked into the crowd, selling the serious nature of the situation. Cena addressed Triple H that he wasn't involved in the walk-out last week and hasn't talked to anyone in a week for a reason. He said the 55-man walk-out would have been a lot stronger if someone else joined. That being him. He said Hunter never even sent him a text message to ask him where he stands. Cena went from quiet to Cena Promo Mode saying he's worked for Vince McMahon and Eric Bischoff. "Those are two of the most humble guys on the planet," he said with a smirk. He said he's worked for Vickie Guerrero, 56 celebrity GMs, an anonymous computer, and he even made it through the Mike Adamle Era (which no one in the crowd remembered). Cena then said he's not Hunter's best friend, but he's staying because Hunter is his boss. Cena said he is staying because he loves Raw and the chaos makes people tune in every week. He said his loyalty is with the audience whether they love him or hate him.
[Q2] After Cena and Hunter shook hands, Sheamus's music played to bring out Sheamus as the next man to address Hunter. Sheamus said two years ago when Hunter gave a speech about his best friend (Shawn Michaels) and he smashed Hunter in the back of the head with a pipe, he was trying to make a name for himself. Sheamus said Hunter didn't take legal action, but came back and kicked his arse. He said they know that result would be very different today...but he respects Hunter. Sheamus said he's not joining some parking lot shenanigans tonight, as he didn't leave his family behind to join losers in the parking lot, but to be part of Raw.
Next up, Cult of Personality brought out C.M. Punk, who held up a pipe bomb mic to the crowd. In the ring, Punk said he feels like he started this whole thing. He said he's been at the epicenter of anything controversial since before Hunter took over and he's the guy who made "walking out" look cool. Punk said he didn't break his contract or his word, but he was just trying to prove his point to an entire company, not just one man. Punk said if anyone has a reason to walk out of WWE, it's him. Punk said someone doesn't want him to be WWE champion. He then noted this industry is built on solving issues inside these ropes. Punk said he thrives in an unsafe working environment. "Hell, this is professional wrestling, not ballet," Punk said. He said when he had a problem with Hunter, he dealt with him personally. And when he had a problem with Cena, he dealt with him personally. As for "Sheam-o," he's sure Sheamus will step on his toes and he will deal with him personally. Punk said Hunter is probably surprised to see him in the foxhole with him, but here he is. Punk asked what do they do now.
Hunter circled the ring and said he thinks what they should do is what they do every night on Monday Night Raw: we shut up and fight. Hunter told Sheamus he has a match tonight. He booked Sheamus one-on-one vs. John Cena. And, he'll referee it. As for "foxhole buddy," Hunter told Punk he has a whole table full of pipebombs and headsets to say whatever he wants. Punk just wanted to be able to wear Hunter's blazer and he was in. Hunter told Punk he also needs him to ring the bell. Punk asked for twice the pay and Hunter agreed. Punk then tentatively sounded the bell and the match was on.
1 -- JOHN CENA vs. SHEAMUS -- Triple H special referee -- Punk special guest timekeeper
After 50 seconds of basic action between Cena and Sheamus, Punk fed to the first break of the show 23 minutes into Raw.
[Commercial Break]
Back from break, Punk told viewers not to adjust their TV sets. Punk noted they are in bizarre-world tonight. Suddenly, 4:23 into the match, No Chance In Hell hit. And out came Vince McMahon for his grand return. Punk said he was just trying to be a good commentator like Art Donovan of Rob Naylor. McMahon stepped into the ring and asked for a word with Triple H. He asked Cena and Sheamus to leave the ring. He thanked them for standing up for what they believe in, too. Punk also left the announce position as McMahon thanked the three of them.
WINNER: No Decision at 5:05 when McMahon cut the match off.
Post-match: McMahon addressed Triple H and noted everyone around here is standing up for what they believe in, even on Wall Street. McMahon said he believes in Triple H and believes in his management style. He said sitting at home watching Raw is a hoot with Hunter going Wild West on Raw. McMahon said some people do not agree with Hunter, and they're standing outside right now. He also noted the Board of Directors do not sympathize with Hunter. McMahon said he spoke with the BOD this afternoon and this walk-out concerns them. He said it could lead to the cancelation of live events, Raw, or even WrestleMania. The concern from the BOD is potential financial catastrophe. He said they're not willing to take that chance. Even though it was over-ruled, he felt it was his duty to speak on behalf of the BOD that Triple H's services running Raw are no longer required. Hunter smirked.
[Q3] McMahon said no member of the McMahon Family is going to run Raw from now on. McMahon said they're looking for a GM who is independent of all this. But, until they find that individual, they have named an interim GM. McMahon said he doesn't like this decision anymore than he's going to like it. He said the interim GM is John Laurinaitis, which drew boos. Out walked Laurinaitis on-stage. Hunter stared him down and Laurinaitis stood his ground on the stage. "You suck" chant from the crowd. Hunter continued to stare toward the stage with anger written on his face as they cut to break.
(JC Reax: So, how do they explain the BOD relieving McMahon of his duties in favor of Hunter, then the BOD going behind Hunter's back to inform McMahon of Hunter being relieved of his duties?)
[Commercial Break]
Back live: Laurinaitis welcomed wrestlers back into the arena. Morrison stopped to tell Laurinaitis he should have been careful with what he wished for because Laurinaitis sucks. Laurinaitis said he's sorry Morrison feels that way, but he's wrestling next. Christian then sucked up to Laurinaitis, so Laurinaitis booked Christian against Morrison. More wrestlers filed into the arena.
In-ring: Jim Ross's music played to bring out Ross to a big reaction in his home state. Jerry Lawler then came out, followed by Michael Cole to no music. Ross set the stage for the show before Cole grabbed his headset and said he's to thank for all the change around here. After Cole said his piece, John Morrison came out in street clothes for his match as Cole heeled on Morrison, saying he has a career death wish. Christian was out next in street clothes. He was flanked by Cody Rhodes, Dolph Ziggler, and Jack Swagger.
2 -- JOHN MORRISON vs. CHRISTIAN (w/Jack Swagger, Cody Rhodes, and Dolph Ziggler)
Referee Charles Robinson was the assigned referee following the walk-out. Cole said the two Superstars are "wrestling" tonight in their street clothes. Christian's t-shirt was removed early on, but Christian came back with a spear after the heels distracted Morrison. Christian with the win after a minute.
WINNER: Christian at 1:11. WWE seems to be pushing Morrison out the door at this point based on the booking.
Post-match: Ziggler nailed his finisher on Morrison. Rhodes followed with Cross Rhodes. Swagger then dropped Morrison with a gutwrench powerbomb. Ross slipped in a Doctor Bomb reference. Nice. Christian, Ziggler, Rhodes, and Swagger then stood tall in the ring and stood over Morrison before Swagger's music played.
Announcers: Cole said Laurinaitis has booked two main events tonight: WWE champion Alberto Del Rio vs. C.M. Punk and World Hvt. champion Mark Henry vs. Randy Orton. So, nothing has really changed since they're still giving away PPV main events with no advanced promotion.
On-stage: On cue, Mark Henry walked out on-stage with the World Title belt draped over his shoulder. Henry's match against Orton is next.
[Q4] [Commercial Break]
Backstage: Laurinaitis was apparently on the phone with his wife asking how he looked on TV as executive. Hunter then barged in and Laurinaitis hung up the phone. Laurinaitis explained he didn't want the interim GM job, just like Hunter, but he was appointed the position. He tried giving a nice-guy speech about loving WWE, then Hunter took a deep breath and asked whether he's ever had to pick up his teeth with broken fingers. Hunter left Ace with that though before WWE faded to the ring.
In-ring: Mark Henry had a mic. Henry said he will not be intimidated by anyone, even Big Show. They cut to a video package on what happened on Smackdown when Big Show returned to TV after being taken out by Henry several weeks ago. Back live in the ring, Henry told Big Show that vengeance will be his at the Vengeance PPV. Suddenly, Randy Orton's voice was heard. He said vengeance will be his. Orton then made his way to the ring to face Henry. Another break before the match.
[Commercial Break]
3 -- World Hvt. champion MARK HENRY vs. RANDY ORTON -- non-title match
The match was joined in progress back from break. After a back-and-forth, Cody Rhodes tried to interfere, but Orton threw him away. Orton then countered the World's Strongest Slam into the RKO. Orton had the pin on Henry, but Rhodes interfered, causing a DQ.
[Q5 -- second hour] Post-match: Orton tried to line up Henry or Rhodes for a Punt, but Henry dropped Orton with the World's Strongest Slam. He actually tried to make a cover, but the match had been ruled a DQ. Henry took out his frustration with another World's Strongest Slam on Orton. After Henry left, Rhodes picked up the scraps with Cross Rhodes on Orton. Rhodes then called for a bag to place over Orton's head. Rhodes took the mic and said if you cut the head off the viper, all the venom goes with it. Rhodes asked Orton if he would like a receipt with his paper bag. He cackled maniacally before his music played and Rhodes bailed from the ring.
WINNER: Orton via DQ at 3:25. Henry was given a chance to get his heat back in the post-match, but odd booking of him taking so much offense from Orton. Granted, it's #2 top star Orton, but WWE isn't protecting Henry as much as they should be. The transition to Orton-Rhodes gives the two men something to work with near the main event scene. As for the booking of the wrestling matches themselves on this show, why would anyone ever spend money on a wrestling show again after this night? Awful.
[Commercial Break]
4 -- KELLY KELLY & EVE vs. ROSA MENDES & TAMINA
Back from break, all four Divas were in the ring. The heels isolated Kelly early on before the action broke down. Eve, who tagged in before the chaos, nailed a top-rope moonsault for the win. After the finish, Divas champ Beth Phoenix and Natalya were shown watching on a monitor.
WINNERS: Eve & Kelly at 2:15. Apparently this puts Eve in position for the next Divas Title shot?
[Q6] Post-match: John Laurinaitis walked out to the ring and told the Divas to leave. He said he's a little nervous, but listen up. He booked WWE champion Del Rio vs. John Cena for the WWE Title at Vengeance. (That was quite possibly the worst announcement of a PPV main event ever. Then again, the WWE Title means nothing at this point, so why should Laurinaitis sell excitement?) Laurinaitis said people may not like him because he has ethics and morals. He then told Jim Ross to take off his headsets and enter the ring. Ross slowly entered the ring and stood next to Laurinaitis. He noted Ross walked out on Triple H last week. He said not only did Ross walk out on Triple H, who gave him his job back, but the entire state of Oklahoma and WWE. Laurinaitis said as executive VP of Talent Relations, Ross is fired. Ross tipped his hat to Laurinaitis, walked out of the ring, walked over to the announce table, shook Lawler's hand, grabbed his notebook, and left ringside. They cut to a shot of Cole doing a trumpet celebration as Ross bowed to the crowd on the stage before leaving.
[Commercial Break]
In-ring: Some Batista knock-off music played to bring out Mason Ryan as Cole continued to celebrate Ross's firing. Lawler noted Laurinaitis and Ross have had problems in the past (loosely referenced by Laurinaitis several weeks ago). So, is the only way to resolve this having the official GM re-hire Ross after replacing interim GM Laurinaitis? WWE tag champs Air Boom came out next to join Mason Ryan for a six-man tag. Out as their opponents were Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, David Otunga, and Vickie Guerrero.
5 -- U.S. champion DOLPH ZIGGLER & JACK SWAGGER & DAVID OTUNGA (w/Vickie Guerrero) vs. MASON RYAN & WWE tag champions AIR BOOM (KOFI KINGSTON & EVAN BOURNE) -- six-man tag match
After 1:25 of basic action, they cut to break with the two sides arguing on the floor. More counter-productive presentation of wrestling on this show tonight.
[Commercial Break]
[Q7] Back from break four minutes later, Ryan took a hot tag and almost dropped Swagger on his head. He then completely whiffed on some corner punches and kicks. Kofi then tagged in and the heels worked him over before Ryan took another tag. Cole went overboard trying to enhance Ryan as he delivered offense. The action broke down before Ryan delivered a swinging sidewalk slam on Ziggler for the pin and the win. Cue up Vickie's screaming and Ryan's awful new theme music. Post-match: Kofi and Ryan checked on Bourne, who took a huge powerbomb from Swagger during the chaos.
WINNERS: Team Ryan at 8:23. I didn't think this show could get any worse, then WWE trotted out Mason Ryan and tried to put him over at the expense of five other more deserving wrestlers.
Announcers: Cole and Lawler plugged the WWE Network with programming including Live Event shows, reality shows, and WrestleMania shows. Cole plugged WWE's poll to name the first-ever WWE show based on WrestleMania.
[Commercial Break]
Video package: Brodus Clay destroying folks.
Announcers: Cole plugged John Cena's new movie, "The Reunion." He quickly fed to the trailer of the movie. Back live, Cole and Lawler ran down the PPV line-up: Del Rio vs. Cena for the WWE Title. That was all they plugged.
In-ring: Ricardo Rodriguez went through the routine of introducing Alberto Del Rio before Cole went back to heeling on Jim Ross. Del Rio very slowly made his way to ringside, continuing to stretch this show out. They cut to break.
[Commercial Break]
[Q8] Back live, Del Rio's music was still playing. Del Rio made his way into the ring during the break, then Cult of Personality played for the second time tonight to bring out C.M. Punk for the main event. Cole heeled on Punk for his commentary during the opening match as Punk completed his ring entrance.
6 -- WWE champion ALBERTO DEL RIO vs. C.M. PUNK -- non-title match
Cole said this match renews the "long history" between Del Rio and Punk. Cole went all the way back to Summerslam two months ago for the start of their long history. Punk and Del Rio went back and forth early on after Del Rio tried to stall on the outside following early offense from Punk. Punk then went flying to the outside and Laurinaitis suddenly walked out on-stage. He ended the match right now.
WINNER: Match stopped at 4:18.
Post-match: Laurinaitis announced a tag match right now involving two men he re-instated. Long, awkward pause. It's like he was waiting for music to play. Laurinaitis said it's Miz and R-Truth. Miz walked out on-stage before Truth followed behind and they rapped their way to the ring. The crowd didn't seem to care. And another break.
6b -- WWE champion ALBERTO DEL RIO & C.M. PUNK vs. THE MIZ & R-TRUTH
The match was joined in progress back from break. Cole went through the recent history of Del Rio being assaulted by Miz and Truth after Hell in a Cell. After Miz and Truth dominated early on, Del Rio and Punk put aside their "long feud" and exchanged tags to begin working over Miz.
[Q9 -- over-run] At the top of the hour, Lawler went back to his thoughts about someone trying to sabotage this show to get Triple H fired. Cole then reset the show, informing viewers of the headlines from this show: Triple H fired, Laurinaitis in as GM. Also, Rhodes putting a paper bag over Orton's head and Jim Ross fired. No surprise - no mention of the two PPV main events announced tonight. Meanwhile, Del Rio decided to walk away from ringside, leaving Punk alone in the match. The crowd tried to rally with a "C-M-Punk" chant as the heels worked over Punk. Punk made a comeback on Miz with a Macho Man elbow drop before trying the G2S, but Truth broke it up. Miz and Truth then double-teamed Punk, so ref Charles Robinson threw out the match.
WINNER: Punk via DQ at 8:03.
Post-match: Triple H, in street clothes, stormed the ring and destroyed Miz and Truth. Miz tried to escape through the crowd, but Hunter yanked him back to ringside and threw him into the ring steps. Punk then flung Truth over the announce table. Truth escaped through the crowd, though. Miz bailed, too. Hunter and Punk then re-assembled together in the ring. Cue up Hunter's theme music.
Backstage: Otunga and Laurinaitis were shown watching the happenings. Laurinaitis said he's going to ask the board about booking Punk and Triple H together as allies against Miz and Truth at Vengeance. Otunga liked the idea. Back live, Cole acted like the match is official as Hunter and Punk posed in the ring to close the show eight minutes past the top of the hour.
