[Q1] No pre-credit video package, but this should be a big week as the NXT Battle Royal determines the #1 contender to the NXT Heavyweight Title.
The Wyatt Family is out for a non-title match against Travis Tyler and Sawyer Fulton, already in the ring. And, Brad Maddox and Tom Philips are in the booth.
1 - TRAVIS TYLER & SAWYER FULTON vs. THE WYATT FAMILY - Non-title Tag Team match
Tyler and Harper start it, and Harper is immediately in control. Rowan keeps chanting "yeah yeah yeah" as he delivers offense to Tyler. Tyler manages to tag in Fulton, who manages two punches before a big boot drops him. Harper keeps up the "yeah yeah yeah" and a big clothesline ends it.
WINNERS: The Wyatt Family in 2:45. Basic enhancement match.
Stephanie McMahon has an "historic announcement" in a taped segment. She is announcing an NXT Women's Championship. She immediately name-drops Paige, Summer Rae, and Emma as well as "others" as the ones chasing it in a tournament.
[ J.J.'s Reax: Wow, that wasn't what I expected. I thought that there would be something about the new training facility. This shows just how much weight the Divas carry on NXT, especially compared to the main roster. Paige is the easy winner here, unless they have other plans for her. But, it does seem like WWE likes to give folks a run with an NXT title before sending them to the main roster (e.g. Seth Rollins, Big E. Langston, The Wyatt Family), so a title on Paige could mean a roster call up for her.
Emma dances her way to the ring, and the audience does the Emma dance. She's facing the talented and now-released Audrey Marie.
2 - EMMA vs. AUDREY MARIE
Emma has suddenly gotten almost as much support as Paige. After the bell rings, she demands her music be played so she can dance again. Marie shoves her down to big boos and then unloads. Jackknife from Emma, but Marie bridges out. They try to trade backslides, but Marie backs into the ropes so Emma transitions to a modified tarantula that Philips calls the "Dil-emma." Catapult into the "Emma-lock" and Marie taps out.
WINNER: Emma via submission in 3:00. What a shame to see Audrey Marie released. She has obvious talent and a fantastic look, and carries herself well in interviews. Of the seven recent NXT releases, the only one more puzzling was Derrick Bateman. Emma went from getting no reaction a few weeks ago to being maybe the second-most over person on the roster.
Renee Young is about to interview some Beer Money knock-offs when some hairy guy with a bad fake accent busts in, says he's their manager, and takes them to the ring.
[Q2]
3 - BRANDON TRAVEN & JAKE CARTER vs. SCOTT DAWSON & GARRETT DYLAN (w/Sylvester LeFort)
Scott Dawson is chugging JR's BBQ sauce straight from the bottle on the way to the ring.
Carter and Dawson start it off. Carter with control, but a ref distraction lets Dylan interfere and give Dawson an edge. Carter is isolated for a stretch. Carter finally tags in Traven but Traven quickly walks into a spinebuster from Dawson followed by a top rope double ax handle from Dylan for the win.
WINNERS: Scott Dawson & Garrett Dylan. Basic county fair action here. Traven's been released, but we never saw much of him to begin with, if ever.
Another release, Derrick Bateman, is out with a new haircut and a good reaction. He's facing Big E. Langston.
4 - DERRICK BATEMAN vs. BIG E. LANGSTON - Non-title match
Bateman out of the bell with rapid-fire offense and puts Langston in the corner and keeps him there. Langston powers out of ten punches in the corner and dumps Bateman on the mat. The straps are down and the Big Ending finishes it.
WINNER: Big E. Langston in 1:00. Sad that this was Bateman's last match in WWE, at least for now.
Post-match, Bateman takes another Big Ending and the five count.
Ad is for Kassius Ohno and Corey Graves to face the Wyatt Family in what seems to be a non-title match.
Big E. Langston is on commentary for the Battle Royal. Corey Graves is the first one to get an entrance, and the ring is already packed. Bray Wyatt is next with the mask and apron, followed by Kassius Ohno, Adrian Neville, Bo Dallas, and Mason Ryan. If they hadn't just announced the new NXT Women's Championship, I'd have even money on Paige joining this match.
[Q3]
5 - BATTLE ROYAL - Winner is #1 contender to the NXT Heavyweight Title
Langston is already struggling on commentary even as he's thrown softballs.
(1) Mason Ryan eliminates Sakamoto.
(2) Mason Ryan eliminates Briley Peirce.
(3) Mason Ryan eliminates Curt Hawkins.
(4) Mason Ryan eliminates Alexander Russef.
(5) Mason Ryan eliminates Barry Corbin?
(6) Mason Ryan eliminates Knuckles Madsen.
(7) Mason Ryan eliminates Mike O'Rielly.
(8) Mason Ryan eliminates Yoshi Tatsu.
(9) Mason Ryan eliminates Dante Jackson.
(10) Mason Ryan eliminates Aiden English.
(11) Mason Ryan eliminates Sami Zayn.
These eliminations occurred within a minute.
Ryan wanted to powerbomb Neville out, but Neville transitions to a huracanrana to send Ryan out instead. Even Neville is stunned.
(12) Adrian Neville eliminates Mason Ryan.
[ Commercial Break ]
O'Brian and Wyatt face each other. O'Brian yells at Wyatt who asks for peace, then clocks O'Brian. O'Brian kicks Wyatt out of the ring, but not over the top rope. O'Brian delivers even offense to Dallas and Neville, then turns his attention to Graves who gets a boot up. Graves and Ohno double team O'Brian and eliminate him. Wyatt sneaks in a dumps the new team out.
(13) Corey Graves and Kassius Ohno eliminate Conor O'Brian.
(14) Bray Wyatt eliminates Corey Graves and Kassius Ohno.
Sister Abigail to Dallas and Dallas is out in the middle of the ring. Enziguri from Neville and he somehow pushes big Bray Wyatt over the top.
(15) Adrian Neville eliminates Bray Wyatt.
It's now the short-lived tag team champion pairing of Dallas and Neville alone in the ring.
Dallas wants a spear, but Neville low-bridges him. Dallas clings on and Neville tries to pry him off the ropes. Dallas pulls Neville out of the ring but only one foot touches. They both barely make it back into the ring. They trade blows and Dallas gets the boos and Neville gets the yeahs. Neville turns the pace up, but runs the risk of being knocked out. Roundhouse kick and Neville goes for the corkscrew SSP but Dallas gets his knees up and quickly follows up to send Neville to the floor.
WINNER: Bo Dallas in 8:30. Thankfully short for a battle royal. Good use of Ryan to believably clear the ring to make some space. Bo Dallas was not on my list of folks I thought had a chance, but it makes sense for him to take the title and do a transition to a full heel mode.
Final Reax: This was basically a "thanks for playing" night to a lot of recently released talent. The Battle Royal was painless with a surprise ending, and the big news was the introduction of the NXT Women's Championship.

[Q1] No pre-credits video this week. It will be interesting to see where things go as the Wyatt Family gets called up to the main roster.
Jim Ross heads out to the ring to officiate the contract signing between Bo Dallas and Big E. Langston. Bo Dallas is out first, to boos. He has new music that says, "I'll do anything it takes to make it," which ironically describes his slow heel burn where he didn't care about losing the Tag Team Title or beating Adrian Neville for the #1 contender spot. Langston comes out to a positive reaction. I think he's wearing a Zubaz muumuu.
Langston signs the contract with no comment as Dallas stares him down. Dallas looks hesitant, and picks up a mic before signing. He is greeted with "No More Bo" chants. He says that Langston is taking him lightly, and he shouldn't. He points out that Langston's built a good career off NXT. Dallas says that he isn't doing these things because he isn't the NXT champion. Dallas says he needs to be champion to get to the next level. He says it will take three seconds to change his life, prompting a five chant from the audience.
Langston says that he actually does take Dallas seriously for his match against Big Show. He says that Dallas can't fill his shoes as champion and says he's a geek, lives with his momma, is too happy, and wears footie pajamas. Langston stands up and says that he will crush Dallas's dreams in five seconds. Dallas signs the contract and gets in Langston's face, then walks away to boos.
[ J.J.'s Reax: I think that's the first contract signing ever on NXT, and it was needed because the build to this match has been so short. Langston tripped once or twice, but his promos have improved. Dallas gave what was written as a babyface promo, but with a heelish attitude. That was a subtle thing to do. ]
Backstage, Renee Young has Corey Graves for an interview. Apparently, the match between the Wyatt Family and the team of Graves and Ohno is indeed for the Tag Titles, which was not mentioned last week. He promises that tonight isn't just about the titles, but the fall of the Wyatt Family. Graves says he's immune to mind games because he doesn't play games. Young asks about Ohno and Graves admits he doesn't like Ohno, but the titles are more important. He's never asked for help so Ohno can stay on the apron while he does the work. Another good presentation of Graves as a lone wolf.
A new video package for Paige. She says she isn't the anti-Diva, she's tomorrow's Diva. Lots of focus on her wrecking people in the ring. Looks like an excellent potential Raw intro video to me.
Out for the first round of the NXT Women's Championship tournament is Tamina Snuka to face Paige. Paige takes more time than usual coming to the ring to play to the crowd a bit. She also has a new outfit, with some red and metal studs.
1 - PAIGE vs TAMINA SNUKA - First Round NXT Women's Championship Tournament match
Snuka tosses Paige across the ring out of a tie-up, but Paige gets aggressive with a kick and headbutt. Snuka replies with the same. Snuka on offense. Paige tries a schoolgirl, but Snuka blocks and continues to toss Paige around. The crowd rallies Paige out of a headlock, but she gets knocked down again. Body slam gets two for Snuka, who is getting frustrated.
Paige fights out of a half-Nelson and then a waistlock. Paige eats a superkick and sets Paige up for the Superfly Splash. Paige gets her boots up and a schoolgirl for the win.
WINNER: Paige in 4:00. That may be the worst match I ever saw Paige in. The pacing was way too slow, and Snuka used too many rest holds. I get that Snuka is a full roster Diva so winning with a schoolgirl makes sense, but Paige looked really weak throughout the match with nearly no offense.
Post-match, they reveal the bracket:
- Paige vs. Tamina Snuka
- Bayley vs. Alicia Fox
- Sasha Banks vs. Summer Rae
- Emma vs. Aksana
Renee Young introduces Kassius Ohno for an interview. She asks for his plans. He plans to destroy the Wyatt Family. Ohno says that this match isn't about working with Graves, but taking something from the Wyatt Family that they value.
Video package on Leo Kruger. He says he isn't creepy, he just requires a unique atmosphere. It's like a Kane promo, but without fire.
Colin Cassady is already in the ring to face Mason Ryan.
2 - MASON RYAN vs. COLIN CASSADY
Predictable squash match for Ryan. He was able to show off his full range of kicks, punches, and clotheslines.
WINNER: Mason Ryan in 2:00.
Renee Young has Sami Zayn for an interview. He seems perky. He talks up Antonio Cesaro, but says he was just better that night when he beat him. Cesaro comes out with a slow clap and calls it a cheap win. Zayn reminds him of the cheap shot after the match. Cesaro wants a re-match. Zayn agrees... but only if Cesaro will tell him where he got that "sweet, sweet man purse." Zayn shoos Young away, then Cesaro slaps Zayn so Zayn tackles him. Backstage officials quickly break it up.
[ J.J.'s Reax: Zayn has this particular chemistry with Renee Young in his interviews that adds a very nuanced depth to his character. He comes off as flirty without being a boor. ]
[Q3] Alex Riley comes out to a big reaction, to face Conor O'Brian.
3 - ALEX RILEY vs. CONOR O'BRIAN
Riley quickly gets run over. O'Brian with a trio of headlock takedowns. Riley with a comeback. Riley to the top rope for a lariat for one. O'Brian dumps Riley into the ropes. Flapjack from O'Brian into "The Stockade," O'Brian's new submission finisher.
WINNER: Conor O'Brian in 2:00. Not a good match. The timing was off all around.
Post-match, as O'Brian backs up the ramp, he's met by the mysterious stranger from last week. They both do a bit of a howl to indicate that they are in league with each other.
Outstanding pre-match promo from Bray Wyatt.
4 - WYATT FAMILY (LUKE HARPER & ERICK ROWAN w/Bray Wyatt) vs. KASSIUS OHNO & COREY GRAVES - NXT Tag Title match
Rowan and Ohno to start. Ohno controls Rowan with holds, but Rowan eventually powers out. Ohno with strikes and brings Rowan into the corner for Graves to work on him. Harper is in, but Graves mostly holds his own with his pit bull offense. Ohno tags in but an elbow gives Harper space to tag Rowan.
[ Commercial Break ]
Rowan is working Ohno over. Ohno manages a tag and Graves knocks Rowan silly then takes out Rowan's knee. Harper takes Graves out on the apron with a cheap shot to stop the momentum. Harper gets frustrated and demented.
[Q4] Rowan with a pumphandle slam into a backbreaker, which looked rough. Ohno is eager for a tag. Graves suddenly slips away from Harper with a roll-up for two, then a crucifix pin for two. Harper wants a powerbomb, but Graves counters with a back drop and tags in Ohno.
Ohno with palm strikes to Harper, then he clears Rowan off the apron. Ohno keeps Rowan out and a running senton to Harper for a nearfall. Wyatt tries to distract Ohno, but it doesn't work and Ohno lands a running spinning headbutt to Harper, but Rowan breaks up the cover. Graves dumps Rowan to the outside, but Wyatt uses the moment to assault Ohno. Graves with a sweet leap over the ropes into a corkscrew plancha to Wyatt. Harper is still able to pick up the win with his big lariat.
WINNERS: The Wyatt Family in 10:00 to retain the Tag Titles. Good match at the end. It is too early to take the titles off the Wyatt Family, but Graves and Ohno make an outstanding team.
Final Reax: A good Tag Team Title match made up for the clunker matches at the beginning. I am not sure where Graves and Ohno go from here. Slow start to the show with an almost Raw-like series of speaking segments at the beginning.
