Something that I was wondering about is what has happened to The Ascension? Well, Kenneth Cameron was released in November due to picking up a DUI (he's a repeat offender, apparently), which means that Conor O'Brien is solo. That's a real shame because The Ascension had good chemistry in the ring, a firm grasp of their characters, and were making the gimmick work, despite its goofiness. Let's hope that Cameron is able to get whatever issues he may have in hand and get his promising career back on track.

[Q1] Kassius Ohno and Leo Kruger against Adrian Neville and Oliver Grey kick off the show. Good match potential here. William Regal and Tony Dawson have announcing duties.

1. ADRIAN NEVILLE & OLIVER GREY vs. KASSIUS OHNO & LEO KRUGER - Tag Team Tournament match

Grey is able to take Ohno down, so Ohno brings Kruger into the match. Uneasy face-off between Kruger and Grey. The pacing is on par for a 15-minute match with lots of early matholds. Grey with a kip up, which is surprising for a man of his size. Neville tags in and continue to work Kruger over. Jawbreaker allows Ohno to come in, but Neville attacks his legs and tags in Grey. Ohno takes a double-teaming in the corner. Ohno keeps his balance on a sunset flip attempt letting Kruger tag in and blindside Grey.

[Commercial Break]

Ohno has Grey on the mat. There is an extended sequence as Ohno and Kruger trade places putting an abdominal stretch on Grey. Grey is desperate for a tag that he can't get. An inside cradle followed by a backslide gives Grey a pair of pin attempts. He uses the separation to recover. Grey dodges a corner charge for a double tag.

[Q2] Neville unloads on Ohno with high-speed offense. Big boot from Ohno cuts off his attack. Ohno makes a point to call Regal's attention to him, but that allows Neville to recover and hit an impressive corkscrew flip dive over the top rope to the outside. Neville puts Ohno down with a kick, and Grey keeps Kruger out of the match. Corkscrew shooting star press from Neville for the win.

WINNERS: Neville & Grey at 14:45. This match did not have nearly enough of Adrian Neville in it. It was almost exclusively a beat down of Grey.

Backstage, Rene Young interviews Summer Rae to know why she attacked Paige last week. She says she is sick of having to be perky every week as the ring announcer, and she's the prettiest Diva in NXT. She's also sick of all the attention Paige gets, and says that Paige is hideous. She feels empowered by her attack on Paige. "Summer's school is always in session." Why are most WWE Diva feuds based on the heel Diva thinking she is better-looking than everyone else?

Mike Dalton is in the ring after a break. I have been interested in seeing more of him. He's facing Conor O'Brien, who has new music but is keeping his persona from The Ascension. He's now being referred to as "The Ascension."

2 - MIKE DALTON vs. CONOR O'BRIEN

O'Brien weathers a quick flurry of offense and starts to dominate Dalton. Running leg drop for the win. Regal calls it the "Fall of Man."

WINNER: Conor O'Brien in 1:30. Who has a leg drop as a finishing move? O'Brien did a good job mocking Langston's fighting style in the short match.

Post-match, O'Brien demands a five count from the ref, then mocks Big E. Langston. Langston approaches the ring to face O'Brien. But, instead of attacking O'Brien, he hits the Big Ending on Dalton and leaves the ring.

Backstage, Dusty Rhodes is begging Paige to calm down. Paige is pretty angry about being attacked by Summer Rae. Paige promises to rip Summer Rae's lips off her face, and tells Rhodes that if he doesn't give her a match next week, there won't be any NXT next week. As she's leaving, she bumps into Sasha Banks and tells her off, too. Rhodes congratulates her on her win two weeks ago. He has a card for her from her secret admirer. The card promises a public display of affection next week. Overall, Paige's promo had great intensity, but Banks seemed to struggle a bit.

[Q3] Really nice video package on the pre-Rumble matches to see who would go from NXT to the Royal Rumble. It really made the matches seem important and made the rookies look great. Bo Dallas showed a lot of personality and heart in the video.

Backstage, Dallas is warming up for his match when Bray Wyatt comes in, sarcastically clapping for him. Wyatt congratulates him on getting into the Rumble, but says Dallas's 15 minutes are up. Dallas reminds Wyatt that he beat Harper in the tournament and will do it again tonight. Wyatt blows it off. Wyatt just blew me away with his delivery here.

3 - MICHAEL MCGILLICUTTY & BO DALLAS vs. LUKE HARPER & ERIC ROWAN - Tag Team Tournament match

Dallas and Harper start things to continue their rivalry. Dallas gets Harper in the corner and McGillicutty and he keep Harper isolated. Harper turns it around and sends Dallas to his corner.

[Commercial Break]

Rowan has Dallas in a bear hug. Dallas tries to fight off Harper and Rowan to escape the corner, but he can't. Wyatt looks ecstatic in his rocker. Dallas slips through a move and is able to get McGillicutty in. McGillicutty puts it to the bigger Rowan. Wyatt with a distraction and the referee ejects him. McGillicutty with the visual pin on Rowan while the ref is kicking Wyatt out, but Harper levels McGillicutty. The ref is back in the ring and Rowan picks up the tainted win.

WINNERS: Harper & Rowan in 5:00. I liked this match and want to see a longer version of it.

Post-match, Wyatt enters the ring and offers Dallas a handshake, but Dallas slaps the hand away. Wyatt sends Harper and Rowan in to surround the ring, and as Dallas is distracted, Wyatt sneaks into the ring to demolish Dallas from behind. Wyatt shakes the hand of the knocked-out Bo Dallas. With any luck, this signals the impending in-ring return of Bray Wyatt.

Final Reax: While I thought the opening match had a bit too much extended beat down of Oliver Grey, this was a good NXT episode overall. I may be biased, but it was nice to finally see Paige in a speaking role, and I think she did a nice job of it. Injuries and releases have shuffled the NXT deck a bit, but the show has adapted nicely.
