July 4, 2012 - Week 3
Taped at Full Sail University
Report by Justin James, PWTorch contributor

[Q1] Sofia Cortez hits the ramp to start the night off. She's billed as being from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and she's facing Paige from England.

1 - PAIGE vs. SOFIA CORTEZ

Basic back-and-forth wrestling to start things off and Cortez shows off a few nifty moves. She isolates Paige in the corner and jaws at the ref, but Paige slaps her and mounts a comeback. Cortez kicks Paige's knee. Paige fights out of a rest hold, but her comeback doesn't last for long. Cortez with a wheelbarrow DDT and Paige is down for the count.

WINNER: Sofia Cortez in 3:00. This was a surprisingly good match considering its length. Cortez has some excellent ring mannerisms.

2 - SETH ROLLNS vs. CAMACHO (w/Hunico)

Early on, Camacho swats Rollins (the former Tyler Black) away, but Rollins is still able to get in some early offense until a clothesline takes him down. Camacho with power offense in the corner. Meanwhile, J.R. in the booth makes the obvious comparison between C.M. Punk and Rollins. Camacho lands a big suplex for a nearfall. Rollins DDTs Camacho into the turnbuckle and fires up. Hunico interferes, though, which allows Camacho to jump him. Rollins then sends Camacho into Hunico on the apron and lands the Blackout for the win.

WINNER: Seth Rollins in 4:45. Camacho didn't show anything we haven't seen before, but Rollins really shined, both on defense and offense. He had multiple occasions where he did something pretty unexpected and unique, and it livened up the match. I look forward to him landing on the main roster and mixing it up with C.M. Punk, Daniel Bryan, Tyson Kidd, Justin Gabriel, and similarly technically-gifted wrestlers.

After the match, Camacho and Hunico beat Rollins down, until Bo Dallas made the save.

3 - C.J. PARKER & NICK ROGERS vs. JAKE CARTER & COREY GRAVES - Tag Team Match

J.R. says that Carter's father is Vader; he looks more like his father is Dirk Nowitski, tall and lanky. Parker quickly gets isolated in the heel corner. Parker then gets space with a back body drop, and it is Graves and Rogers in the ring.

[Q2] Graves immediately gets Rogers on the defensive, and they hit a double-team move (Bottom's Up, I think) for the win. The movie is Graves holds the opponent upside down and Carter lands a sliding neckbreaker of sorts to the back of his head.

WINNERS: Jake Carter and Corey Graves in 2:30. There wasn't enough of the match to judge the wrestling, but what there was did the job.

Video package on Kassius Ohno (former Chris Hero). He talks about dishing out a lot of pain. He makes Daniel Bryan look clean-shaven; talk about "goat face."

4 - MIKE DALTON vs. KASSIUS OHNO

There's some chain wrestling to start, and Ohno gets the upperhand by letting Dalton ram his own head into the ropes. Ohno seems to do the Uso's "Us! O!" cry, then lands a big Superman Punch in the corner. Dalton is able to get in some offense, but Ohno immediate turns it around with a discus back elbow for the win.

WINNER: Kassius Ohno in 2:40. Maybe the problem was the length of the match, but I had expected a lot more from Ohno based on early reports and talk of his work on the independent circuit (which I haven't seen).

Post-match, Ohno has a mic, and reiterates that he knocks people out. "When they here Kassius is coming, they say, 'Oh no!'"

Bray Wyatt video package - it is very well done. He's advertised for next week.

5 - DERRICK BATEMAN vs. JINDER MAHAL

Mahal takes a rope break to escape a waistlock, but Bateman is still able to sustain offense. Bateman with a suicide dive that sends Mahal partially up the ramp. Mahal jumps him on the way back into the ring, then Bateman counters a neckbreaker into a backslide. Bateman with a big flapjack and a running neckbreaker for a close nearfall. Mahal evades Bateman's finisher twice, the second time he lands a knee to Bateman's back, then settles into the Camel Clutch for the win.

WINNER: Jinder Mahal via submission in 4:00. A technically-sound match from both men, and Bateman still shows the in-ring intensity from NXT: Redemption.

Post-match, Mahal re-applies the Camel Clutch for a few moments, then releases it.

[Q3] It is announced from the office of NXT GM Dusty Rhodes that the main event is Tyson Kidd, Seth Rollins, and Bo Dallas against Michael McGillicutty, Camacho, and Hunico, as a result of the earlier events.

6 - TYSON KIDD & SETH ROLLINS & BO DALLAS vs. MICHAEL MCGILLICUTTY & HUNICO & CAMACHO - Six-man tag match

William Regal joins J.R. and Byron Saxton on announce duties for this match. Dallas and McGillicutty start off, but after some tags without action, it is Kidd and Hunico. There's some sweet action between Hunico and Kidd. Kidd tags in Dallas, who then brings in Rollins. Rollins has to keep Camacho away, allowing Hunico to take control.

[ c - Raw 1,000th episode video, DX has a tank and Del Rio remembers it ]

Camacho is working over Rollins out of the break. Rollins monkey-flips Hunico, and is able to get Dallas into the match. Dallas is lightning-quick, but Camacho takes advantage of a distraction from McGillicutty. McGillicutty comes in and beats on Dallas, who is getting shredded in the ring. Dallas finally gets Kidd in against McGillicutty. Kidd then clears the apron and speeds it up. Hunico and Camacho break up a pin, so Dallas clears them out and Rollins lands a top rope splash on Dallas, Camacho, and Hunico to even things out. McGillicutty then lands the Turning Heads neckbreaker, and Hunico and Camacho keep Rollins and Dallas out of the ring during the pin.

WINNERS: McGillicutty, Hunico, and Camacho in 10:00. I enjoyed this match far, far more than any other tag match lately. My only disappointment is that Dallas was only on offense for a few moments. What we saw was howling fast and quite enjoyable, and I want to see more of it. The initial work between Kidd and Hunico deserves a replay if you can find a way to watch it.

Final Reax: First and foremost, I am itching to see Bray Wyatt, as the video packages are very successful. Also, Seth Rollins continues to justify the hype, I hope that the Kassius Ohno match was a fluke, given the hype, and I think Bo Dallas has potential and I'd like to see more... The announcing was well done, even the three-man booth for the final match. All three were respectful and spent time discussing the action and the people in it and it enhanced the match, unlike the mess on Raw or Smackdown... The big weakness of the show is a lack of promos to introduce characters, zero story (or even an idea of why they are wrestling), short matches, and poor sound quality. While New NXT lacks the things that I really liked about the last half of NXT: Redemption, it has tons of potential, and is the most loaded NXT in terms of actual talent since NXT 1.
