The cast of Season Five of WWE NXT (Pros):
-- Darren Young (Chavo Guerrero)
-- Jacob Novak (JTG)
-- Byron Saxton (Yoshi Tatsu)
-- Conor O'Brian (Kozlov)
-- Lucky Cannon (Tyson Kidd)
-- Titus O'Neil (Hornswoggle)
This week's WWE NXT episode opened with Matt Striker in-ring introducing the show. Jacob Novak went for gold trunks this week, dropping the diaper-white look. Striker was alone as host since Maryse was in Los Angeles during Monday's NXT taping supporting Chris Jericho on DWTS. The Rookies stood ringside as Striker gave them instructions.
First, a look at the Redemption Point standings. Young - 7 points and O'Neil with 5 points. Everyone else with a goose egg. The first challenge tonight is worth four points and will be an arm wrestling challenge.
Saxton vs. Young was first with referee Scott Armstrong officiating the proceedings. They had a stalemate to start. Young finally turned him over at 23.7 to send Saxton to the locker room.
Cannon, after removing his robe, stepped up to face O'Brian. Armstrong was agitated with the delay from both men, including Cannon needing some lotion on his hand. Regal noted Cannon's psychological tactics. They commenced the battle and ref Armstrong DQ'ed Cannon for heel tactics. O'Brian set a new time of 11.2. Regal said people are noticing Cannon no matter if he wins or loses. Yes, that's all that matters on NXT.
Third match: Novak vs. Titus. Novak slammed Titus's arm down before Striker commenced the proceedings. Novak gloated, but ref Armstrong brought him back where he was soundly defeated at 3.5. Titus advances to the the final round with a bye for fastest time.
Semi-final: O'Brian vs. Young to face Titus. They struggled mightily as Regal gave instructions over the headset. O'Brian eventually won, sending Young to the back. So, it's Titus vs. O'Brian. Titus easily secured the victory in about two seconds. Titus gets four points and now has 9 points vs. Young's 7 points.
Announcers: Regal and Grisham talked a bit before plugging a Six-Rookie tag match still to come tonight to find out "who the best Rookie is."
[Break]
NXT video: Darren Young. Young said on NXT 1, he wasn't able to show what he's about being paired with C.M. Punk. They skipped clear over the Nexus era and Superstars stint to his inclusion on Season 5. Young did hint at being labeled the "weakest link" (when he was cut from Nexus), but there were no references to his Nexus background.
Announcers: Back to Grisham and Regal to run down the WrestleMania line-up Grisham then fed to the old-western video package on The Undertaker vs. Triple H that aired on last night's Raw.
[Break - Tough Enough plug.]
Announcers: Grisham plugged the six-person tag match at WrestleMania featuring Team Snooki vs. Team Lay-Cool. Grisham fed to a video from Raw a few weeks ago when Snooki guest-starred on Raw to set up the tag match at Mania.
[Break - WM27 plug.]
Announcers: Back to Grisham to plug the WrestleMania Week schedule Wednesday through Sunday in Atlanta. ... And now, the Raw Rebound going all the way back to last night's Raw for a look at Rock, Cena, and Miz in-person together for the first time ever. This was a video package-style Rebound incorporating the previous "via satellite" segments where Rock and Cena interacted. Interesting conclusion to the video focusing on Cena's heelish smirk at Rock after dropping him with the Attitude Adjustment to conclude Raw.
[Break - "True Story of WrestleMania" DVD and Hall of Fame plugs.]
Announcers: And back to Grisham for a plug of The Undertaker vs. Triple H going No Holds Barred. This time, Grisham fed to a real-time replay of Hunter and Taker's confrontation last night on Raw that was interrupted by dancin' Shawn Michaels. Still such a great segment the second time around. Watching the segment again, the deliberate facial expressions from all three really sold the whole story and match at WrestleMania.
[Break - WWE Magazine plug, another new "Tough Enough" plug focusing on the contestants.]
Announcers: Back to Grisham and Regal to plug NXT replays. If you're scoring at home, 35 minutes in-between the arm-wrestling challenge and six-man tag match.
1 -- CONOR O'BRIAN & TITUS O'NEIL & BYRON SAXTON vs. LUCKY CANNON & DARREN YOUNG & JACOB NOVAK
As the Rookies traded basic holds, the sharply-dressed Pros were shown on-stage evaluating the Rookies. After trying to remember the Russian's name, Regal noted Kozlov stood out for not being sharply dressed in jeans and a t-shirt. The announcers discussed Titus having the physique, but needing to connect with the audience or he won't last long in WWE. With Saxton isolated, Titus pretended to be upset with the ref for not catching the default heel trio's pretend heelish tactics.
Titus eventually took a tag to no reaction and cleaned house with power offense. Naturally, the action broke down moments later, then Titus finished off Novak with his sit-out slam finisher for the pin and the win. Hornswoggle was quite excited on-stage. After a replay of Titus finishing of Novak, they cut back to Titus, Saxton, and O'Brian standing tall in the ring. Grisham signed off and said they would see everyone in Atlanta for WrestleMania 27.
WINNERS: Team Titus at 6:30. Your basic, ordinary FCW quality match with everyone trying to play a role. But, since the matches are of no consequence on NXT, no one will remember this.
