WWE NXT TV Results
January 11, 2011 - Season 4, Week 6
Taped in Birmingham, Ala.
Aired on WWE's website
By James Caldwell, PWTorch assistant editor

The cast of Season Four of WWE NXT:

-- Rookie: Johnny Curtis. Pro: R-Truth.
-- Rookie: Byron Saxton Pro: Dolph Ziggler
-- Rookie: Brodus Clay. Pro: Ted DiBiase.
-- Rookie: Jacob Novak. Pro: Chris Masters
-- Rookie: Derrick Bateman. Pro: Daniel Bryan.
-- Rookie: Conor O'Brian. Pro: Alberto Del Rio.

A video package recapping Novak's elimination last week opened this week's episode. On the stage, Striker was with the five remaining Rookies. He said there will be another elimination next week and the voting will begin on WWE's website tomorrow. Striker recapped the Tag Title shot for the winner of NXT. They cut to a shot of the Pros already in the ring. Tonight's challenge is worth two immunity points and the winner will be immune from elimination. And the American Gladiator-style challenge is a slingshot.

Johnny Curtis was up first. R-Truth warmed up the slingshot, but could not connect with Curtis. Four tries resulted in zero t-shirt catches. Saxton was next and he scored one t-shirt in the receptacle. Bateman was up next and Daniel Bryan shot him two t-shirts. It appeared the second t-shirt did not make it into the bucket before 30 seconds, but there was no official challenge. There were more football references from the announcers than points scored at this point.

Brodus Clay was next and Maryse wasted ten seconds trying to slingshot t-shirts. Ted DiBiase eventually tried the slingshot, but poor Brodus scored zero t-shirts. Three more football references from the announcers. Finally, it was Conor O'Brian's turn. Alberto Del Rio attempted the slingshot, but his accuracy was questionable. Mathews said this is horrible. O'Brian scored two quick points at the end, but the referee ruled that O'Brian's entry was after 30 seconds. Therefore, it was waved off. Mathews wanted to know about continuation (a basketball reference following 18 football references). Bateman scores the two points for winning the immunity challenge.

Backstage: Ricardo Rodriguez was on the phone. The camera secretly eavesdropped on his phone call as Ricardo apparently called an exterminator to report a rat problem (O'Brian). "A huge rat," he said, according to the subtitles.

Still to come tonight: Ted DiBiase vs. Johnny Curtis.

[Break]

1 -- CONOR O'BRIAN (w/Del Rio) vs. BYRON SAXTON (w/Dolph Ziggler)

Back-and-forth in the first three minutes of the match. They cut to a shot of the Pros on-stage acting like they were taking notes. Maryse was busy surveying the condition of her fingernails. Saxton took control, but couldn't put away O'Brian, which agitated Ziggler after Ziggler dropped Novak in favor of Saxton on last week's show. The crowd began to live and die with each nearfall, wanting the match to end. Saxton's inability to put away O'Brian finally caught up to him, as O'Brian executed an emphatic suplex for the pin and the win. Afterwarrd, Del Rio told Ricardo to make it official. Ricardo stammered out a weak announcement, selling that he's not a big O'Brian fan.

WINNER: O'Brian at 6:14. Saxton needs work on his facial expressions and O'Brian needs to watch some Randy Orton tapes to learn how to convey emotion to the audience.

Last Night after Raw: Bateman was in a dress shirt, tie, and...fannypack with USA-themed Zubaz pants. Bryan told Bateman perhaps they should reconsider the double date with the Bella Twins. Bateman said he's ready to pounce. He pulled out two sunflowers, handed one to Bryan, and said it's game time. Bryan told Bateman not to try too hard. Bateman said he's a lady

Up next: Superstar Password challenge. Don't ask.

[Break]

On-stage: Striker noted Bateman has earned two immunity points tonight and they will have an elimination next week. Striker said they are competing for a chance to become tag champion with their Pro, so they need to test how mentally in-tune with their Pros they are. So, it's time for Superstar Password.

Curtis and R-Truth were up first. Curtis had Edge as his first password. It took him forever to figure out a clue for Edge. Next was Kofi Kingston. Two points for Curtis.

Next were Byron Saxton and Dolph Ziggler. Saxton had John Cena and hummed his theme music. Saxton sang Mark Henry's theme song next. He tried JTG for point #3, but time ran out. Two points for Saxton.

Bateman and Bryan were next. Bateman botched Kane, so off they went. They worked things out and scored three points. After the buzzer, Bryan tried to sneak in a Steve Blackman reference. Bateman with a Genius reference.

Brodus Clay and DiBiase were next. Maryse just listed a bunch of fashion designers, distracting everyone. Brodus said "snake" and DiBiase said, "Jake the Snake." Maryse continued to break concentration listing fashion designers and they couldn't get Orton. Brodus sold that he wanted to destroy Maryse for screwing things up. One point for Clay.

Up next were O'Brian and Del Rio. O'Brian tried to do Cody Rhodes's gimmick, but Del Rio didn't get it. They scored one point in a poor effort. If effort is a prerequisite for this. Bateman wins with three points, giving him a clean sweep on the night.

[Break]

Hall of Fame video: They aired the video package on Shawn Michaels to introduce him as the first Hall of Fame 2011 inductee. Back to the announcers, Josh Mathews said he believes the Hall of Fame was built for Michaels.

Last Night After Raw: Bryan, Bateman, and the Bellas on their double date at a "restaurant." They barely tried to make it look believable. Bateman told a lame joke, so the Bellas went back to flirting with Bryan. Bateman made a cheese joke toward Brie. She ignored Bateman and thanked Bryan for a text message he sent after her match. Nikki didn't get a text message. She figured it out. Brie deleted her text that Bryan sent her. They stood up and started arguing. In the process, Nikki knocked something onto Bateman's USA Zubaz pants. Bateman flipped out, flipped over the table, and stormed off after throwing them a sack of change to pay for the meal. Bryan sheepishly stood up and said he obviously has to go help him out. Bryan walked off, leaving the Bellas alone. Brie told Nikki this is all her fault. "Not now," she said. More tease of the ulterior motive for the Bellas pretending to be interested in Bryan, who continues to play a passive character.

[Break]

2 -- TED DIBIASE (w/Brodus Clay and Maryse) vs. BRODUS CLAY (w/R-Truth)

Todd Grisham noted they have about a month-and-a-half left of NXT. Mathews lamented the length of the show. Curtis took control on DiBiase, who can't even beat a Rookie, and they cut to break.

[Break]

DiBiase was in control back from break. DiBiase talked trash to R-Truth as the announcers debated who will be the next Rookie eliminated on next week's show. Curtis made a comeback as the announcers talked about the wrestlers having an opportunity in this setting to show "personality" and "aggression" in the ring. What happened to winning a match? DiBiase cut off Curtis's comeback, but missed with a kick strike. Curtis made a full comeback as a few people in the crowd showed interest. Curtis scored a close nearfall following a suplex driver, prompting Maryse to scream and pace the ring in frustration. Maryse then distracted the ref, allowing Clay to punch Curtis from behind. Truth then jumped off the ring steps and smashed Clay, causing a ruckus. DiBiase, distracted, was suddenly rolled up by Curtis, who scored a three count for the win.

Post-match: DiBiase stomped off while Maryse screamed at Clay, who took it in stride. Maryse took off her shoe and threw it at Clay, who casually caught it. Maryse continued to scream at everyone, then Curtis and Truth celebrated in the ring to end the show.

WINNER: Curtis at 9:15. DiBiase is officially on that MVP free-falling losing streak where you never know where rock bottom actually is. A blah conclusion to a blah show. The sense of urgency on last week's NXT was non-existent this week.

Updated Immunity Standings:

Bateman - 3 points
Everyone else - 0 points
