RADICAN’S KAYFABE COMMENTARIES REVIEW SERIES
“YOUSHOOT WITH AMAZING KONG”
RELEASED IN 2013 BY KAYFABE COMMENTARIES
yskong.jpg

The latest edition of YouShoot from Kayfabe Commentaries features Amazing Kong fielding a wide variety of questions and video submission. Kong talks about her entire career, including TNA, WWE, and wrestling in Japan, but the surprising thing is that she wasn’t asked about her time in Shimmer or Ring of Honor. The interview is divided up into different categories and the format works nicely in terms of breaking things up into different sections, so that Kong can discuss questions based around a specific theme like Japan, heat, WWE, TNA, and other topics.

Kong talks about wrestling in All Japan and it was interesting to hear about how she learned to respect veterans there and how the wrestling culture works. When talking about the differences between the Japan style and the American style, Kong talked about how physical the Japan matches were compared to the matches she had once she came back to the US. It was amazing to hear how one veteran taught Kong a lesson by kicking her right in the face when he was winded and couldn’t get where she needed to be for a certain spot during the match.

Kong gets a lot of strange sex related questions throughout the course of the interview. The funniest moments came when a person in the dark dressed in black with red eyes asked her what her favorite sexual position is. Kong then got up and demonstrated it with Sean Oliver. It’s an image that nobody that watches this release will be able to get out of their head.

One production element that has added some new life to the YouShoot series is the green screen. Kong talked about whether or not she was actually arrested in reference to her mug shot that was passed around on the internet. Oliver turns the question about her mug shot into a game where they are sitting at a booking station and Kong has to rate the top 3 worst mug shots out of several that are displayed on screen.

Another highlight of the interview was Kong’s discussion with Bubba The Love Sponge backstage at TNA in January of 2010. Oliver and Kong go back to the green screen of the TNA locker room. Kong and Oliver hilariously reenact Kong’s attack with Oliver playing the role of Bubba. Kong also gives insight into her state of mind at the time she attacked Bubba and her displeasure with the way she was being used in TNA during that time that is presented well.

The usual games are played with F…Marry…Kill, Ho Bag, and Dick Bag in the mix as well as some new segments that hadn’t been done on YouShoot before. Kong put several women from TNA in the Ho Bag, including Dixie Carter. Kong touches on why she put Carter in the Ho Bag later in the shoot. Kong and Oliver did several editions of F…Marry…Kill that were submitted by people for the interview, but the best one was Kong having to choose between Vince Russo, Jim Cornette, and Sean Oliver.

Kong is very outspoken about her time in TNA and why things went sour for her there. She talked about how when she started in the company she thought it was cutting edge, but she became frustrated after Dutch Mantell, who was handling the Knockouts, left the company. Kong talked about the low salaries in TNA for women and the expenses they had to put out when they worked on the road. Kong’s comments didn’t paint a great picture of the working environment for a female wrestler in TNA. Kong also said TNA was the only company she worked for that stiffed her on her pay. Not all, but some of Kong’s comments reflect a lot of things that many women have said about the difficulties they’ve had working in TNA in terms of salary and earning a living wage while being under contract.

Kong didn’t have anything nice to say about Dixie Carter. When Oliver asked her a question about what she thought of Dixie, Kong took a big swig of wine and talked about Carter having different faces for different occasions. Kong said Carter was nice to her, but behind her back, she had heard things Carter said about her that made her upset. Kong also pointed out what many people have said has been a fatal flaw in TNA in relation to Carter in that they bring in name wrestlers, but they are lazy names that get pushed ahead of wrestlers that have been with the company for a long time.

It is apparent Kong what to go back to WWE and she doesn’t have anything bad to say about her short stint in the company, so those looking for a lot of insight into her short time in the company might be a little disappointed with the WWE section of the interview. Kong does reveal that she believes she will go back to WWE when the time is right and mentions the things she needs to work on before she makes her return.

Overall thoughts: (7.0) – Kong was a good interview and she was a good choice to use for an edition in the YouShoot series. She fielded all of the questions that were thrown at her and answered them honestly.

I was surprised that more people didn’t ask Kong about her time in Shimmer, her feud with Gail Kim in TNA, and her time in ROH. Those are major parts in her career that I would have liked to have heard more about, but people didn’t submit questions about those topics.

The segment where Kong talked about her time in TNA was the most compelling part of the interview and people interested in Kong’s time in TNA and the issues she encountered will find those segments interesting. Kong doesn’t hold back and it isn’t surprising given that she has no interest in returning to the company.

It’s clear that Kong wants to go back to WWE, so she doesn’t go in-depth into her time in the company and her departure. She does talk a little bit about her pregnancy and whether or not she got any heat to her face, which was interesting to listen to. She was also open about the issues she needs to address, but it was clear Kong was trying to watch what she said about WWE when fielding questions about the company.

Kayfabe Commentaries continues to do a good job of updating the various series they release and keeping them fresh. This interview was no different, as several new games were introduced and the green screen was used quite often. Sean Oliver has proven he’s a jack of all trades, as he can do anything from a series interview to having Kong show her favorite position in the bedroom. Thumbs up.
