RADICAN’S SHOOT DVD INTERVIEW SERIES
2012 NEW JACK SHOOT INTERVIEW
RELEASED BY RF VIDEO
The latest shoot interview from New Jack from RF Video comes with the disclaimer that it’s his last shoot interview ever. It’s hard to believe that some wrestlers long past their time in the wrestling spotlight have managed to make a living off of doing interviews for companies like RF Video amongst others, but New Jack has done a ton of shoot interviews over the years.
As usual, New Jack is upset with a lot of people and this release feels more like a train wreck unfolding in front of your eyes as opposed to something you would watch to gain insight into the wrestling business. After all sorts of warnings and disclaimers appear that the opinions on this release are New Jack’s and don’t reflect the views of RF Video, the interview finally begins. One of the funniest things I’ve ever seen on a shoot interview was the “Star Wars” style scroll that rolled before New Jack began talking.
The first half of this release is all about New Jack’s relationship with Terri Runnels that as you can imagine, didn’t turn out well in the end with both parties involved taking each other to court. New Jack tears apart Terri verbally unlike anything I’ve ever seen for a long period of time and parts of his rants delve into the intimate details of their relationship, which frankly were quite disgusting. For the first time ever that I can ever recall on a shoot DVD, New Jack is censored when talking about Terri, Dustin Runnels, Dusty Rhodes, and Terri’s teenage daughter during this part of the interview.
New Jack finally moves onto something else and does a hilarious rant on Abdullah the Butcher for accusing New Jack of having AIDS. New Jack holds up a medical document to the camera that he claims shows he doesn’t have AIDS. Jack then challenges Abdullah the Butcher to bring his medical papers to RF Video and show the world that he doesn’t have Hepatitis C. I agreed with a lot of New Jack said during this portion of the interview, especially when he said wrestlers that are going to bleed should have to submit to regular medical screening before being allowed to work on a show.
New Jack held up his medical paper several times to the camera, but the only thing I could make out was his government name on the top of the document. It would have been nice if RF Video had gotten a clearer shot of the document or just scanned it and posted it on the screen.
Another topic of conversation is New Jack’s appearance at TNA’s HardCore Justice PPV. Jack gives the details here how the opportunity came about and talks about whether or not he enjoyed the experience of working for TNA once again. Another topic that came up was Jack insisting that at one point WWE was interested in bringing him in. I have a hard time believing this, but Jack insists that the only reason negotiations fell apart was because he wanted to keep the rights to his name.
Jack doesn’t come across as the most likeable guy at times. He’s given a chance to come clean and say whether or not he regrets anything in his career and he says he doesn’t regret anything he did because he sold DVDs, which is reprehensible in my book.
Jack also takes the opportunity to knock Mick Foley. Jack says Foley wasn’t a true hardcore wrestler because all he did was take stupid bumps. Jack explains the differences between his style and Foley’s style and concludes by saying Foley doesn’t deserve the privilege of being compared to him.
Another name that comes up is Kevin Nash. Jack says he was supposed to sign with WCW at one point, but Nash was the reason that WCW didn’t end up signing him. Jack details how he was supposed to come in during the Master P angle. Jack tells a hilarious story about seeing Nash at a wrestling convention and Nash acting like he knew him, but Jack had to tell him they had never met. Jack’s story about WCW sounded more plausible than his claims about WWE being interested in him.
The craziest story on this release is about Sunny calling New Jack because she wanted him to kill her ex-boyfriend, who had allegedly beaten her up. Jack says that his character is a gimmick and isn’t who he is in real life. At one point, Jack began to suspect that Tammy was trying to set him up and gives the details behind that and why he wouldn’t do what Tammy asked him to do.
The release concludes with Jack saying this is his last shoot. He reflects on being the first person to do a shoot interview for RF Video and mentions that he wanted to use wrestling to move onto other things like bounty hunting and comedy, which New Jack is currently pursuing. It’s nice to see that he can leave wrestling behind and move onto other things whereas so many other wrestlers have hung onto wrestling and never done anything else with their lives. New Jack also reveals at the end of this release whether or not he actually killed four people while working as a bounty hunter before getting into wrestling, which was interesting to listen to.
Overall, this was better than some of the recent New Jack interviews I’ve seen. The interview starts off with Jack going crazy while tearing apart Terri Runnels for a long time. Jack is fun to listen to and entertaining on this shoot most of the time, but there are a couple of times where it was uncomfortable to listen to him talk about his relationship with Terri.
Jack’s other stories on this release were interesting and entertaining, especially his discussions about Foley, Sunny, Nash, and potentially working for the WWE. Jack definitely went out with a bang and if you liked some of his other interviews, you’ll enjoy this one as well.
