RADICAN’S DGUSA "ENTER THE DRAGON 2010" PPV REPORT
TAPED IN PHILDELPHIA, PA
PREMIERS ON PPV SEPT. 10, 2010

CIMA was out hyping the crowd when Johnny Gargano came out and challenged him to a match.

1 - - JOHNNY GARGANO vs. CIMA.

The announcers said if Gargano won, he had a good chance to be in any of the DGUSA stables. Gargano dominated the action during the early stages of the match and nailed CIMA with a dive to the outside. CIMA cut Gargano off and went after his leg. The crowd chanted for CIMA after he nailed Gargano with the double knees to the rear end in the corner. CIMA went for a spear, but Gargano caught him with a spear through the ropes and mocked CIMA's signature Warriors pose, which drew a lot of heat. CIMA eventually fired back and nailed the back stabber and a double stomp to Gargano's chest out of the corner. Gargano caught CIMA by surprise with the double knees to the chest in the corner and followed up with a big superkick for a nearfall moments later. Both men countered each other's finisher and CIMA finally hit a cross-legged powerbomb on Gargano for a nearfall. CIMA eventually finished off Gargano with the double knees to chest off the top.

CIMA teased a handshake after the match, but then pulled his hand back, which the crowd really enjoyed.

WINNER: CIMA

STAR RATING: (***1/4) – This got off to a bit of a slow start before getting really good. Gargano continues to impress me each time I see him. He's got a lot of charisma and he showed that here going toe-to-toe with CIMA for most of the match before being overwhelmed in the end. I really liked the climax of this match and the crowd ate it up as well.

Lenny Leonard and Chikarason were shown backstage. They talked about the opening match and then sent us to a promo from Drake Younger. Younger said he was going to make the most out of his opportunity to face off against Naruki Doi.

2 - - ADAM COLE vs. ARIK CANNON vs. CHUCK TAYLOR vs. RICOCHET – 4 Way match

Match started off at an incredible pace with Taylor hitting a sweet looking dive to the outside. Ricochet then hit an insane twisting press to the outside after a failed attempt for a dive earlier in the match. The match continued with action and nearfalls at a breakneck pace with great crowd heat. Ricochet hit some insane maneuvers at times. Taylor also had several moments of greatness as well. The crowd heat continued to grow and grow as they exploded in a "this is awesome" chant after Cole kicked out of Cannon's total anarchy finisher. I thought I had seen it all until I saw Cole nail Cannon with a code red off the top rope. Holy s---! Taylor finally won with a gigantic awful waffle on Ricochet.

WINNER: Chuck Taylor

STAR RATING: (****1/2) – This was insane! I couldn't keep up with all of the action going on in the ring at times, but Taylor, Cannon, Cole, and Ricochet went out and stole this show with this match. Some of the sequences these guys pulled off have to be seen to be believed. Taylor was especially great here with his mannerisms. The crowd just got hotter and hotter as the match went on. This match is worth the price of admission on its own. Wow!

Jon Moxley was shown backstage with Kamikaze USA. He talked about ending the Chikara Sekigun. YAMATO cut a promo in Japanese that was translated before Moxley said the Chikara team had no chance tonight.

3 - - DRAKE YOUNGER vs. NARUKI DOI

Younger is subbing for the injured Dragon Kid in this match. Younger missed a dive off the apron during the early stages of the match and Doi went right after his leg. Doi worked over Younger's leg for a long period of time. Doi went for a charge in the corner, but Younger caught him and nailed him with a half-nelson suplex, which woke the crowd up. Doi fired back and nailed Younger with a dropkick while he was tied up in the ropes. Doi then hit a front-flip senton off the top and the crowd applauded. Doi eventually finished off Younger with a running kick.

Younger cut a promo after the match and said he can take a violent attack from the best DGUSA has to offer before being attacked by Gargano.

WINNER: Naruki Doi

STAR RATING: - (**3/4) The match didn't have much heat during the early stages, but the crowd got eventually got into mostly due to Doi's antics in the ring. Younger had a good showing for himself, but he didn't do anything to really stand out. I loved the finish of the match where Doi slapped Younger in the face about 100 times before finishing him off with a running kick.

The Chikara Sekigun cut a promo backstage. Quackenbush said he wanted someone on their side that hates YAMATO as much as he does before introducing Masato Yoshino, who cut a translated promo in Japanese.

4 - - SCOTT REED (w/Nicole) vs. RICH SWANN

Swann finished Reed off quickly with a standing 450 for the pin. Wow!

Brodie Lee ran out laid out the ref, Reed, Nicole, and Swan. He said he was coming for a Japanese man the next time he came to DGUSA.

WINNER: Rich Swann

STAR RATING: (n/a) – Lee's path of destruction in DGUSA continued here.

Jimmy Jacobs cut a promo backstage. He said he wasn't wrestling on the show, but it wasn't a night off for him. Jacobs said he was coming for Moxley.

5 - - KAMIKAZA USA (Jon Moxley & YAMATO & Gran Akuma & Akira Tozawa) vs. CHIKARA SEKIGUN (Mike Quackenbush & Hallowicked & Masato Yoshino & Jigsaw) – 8 Man Elimination match

All eight men brawled at the beginning of the match and the crowd was hot. Quackenbush and YAMATO went at it briefly, but Moxley attacked Quackenbush from behind. Kamikaze USA got the heat on Jigsaw for a long period of time after a chaotic start to the match. Jigsaw finally made the hot tag and Hallowicked ran wild. Kamikaze USA got the first elimination after YAMATO pinned him with the galleria, which followed a 4 on 1 attack. Moxley could not pin Jigsaw, so he went and got a chair and nailed Jigsaw with it. The ref saw it and called for the DQ. Jacobs ran out and brawled with Moxley as YAMATO eliminated Jigsaw with the Galleria.

The action continued at a furious pace with great crowd heat. The heels got the heat on Quackenbush and the crowd chanted his name. Akuma went for what appeared to be a code red, but Quackenbush countered it into a sit out powerbomb to eliminate him. That was nuts! YAMATO and Yoshino went at it at an incredible pace before Yoshino took him down. Yoshino hit the lightening spiral moments later for a nearfall, but Tozawa broke it up. YAMATO got several nearfalls on Quackenbush, but he couldn't put him away with Yoshino on the floor. Tozawa and YAMATO both hit suplexes on Quackenbush, but Yoshino came out of nowhere to make the save. YAMATO then caught Yoshino with the galleria, but he kicked out at the last second. Quackenbush got his revenge on YAMATO nailing him with a low blow. Yoshino locked in the sol naciente on YAMATO. Quackenbush then locked in the Chikara special on Tozawa. YAMATO and Tozawa both tapped at the same time giving Chikara Sekigun the win.

WINNERS: Mike Quackenbush & Masato Yoshino & Hallowicked & Jigsaw

STAR RATING: (****1/4) – This was a fitting blow off to a feud that built for a year. This is another match worth going out of your way to see on this card. The action was intense throughout with a lot of great exchanges and instense crowd heat. I love the way YAMATO and Moxley carry themselves as heels. Quackenbush countering Akuma's code red attempt with a powerbomb was nuts. The babyfaces were great here as well, especially Yoshino, who is becoming one of my favorite in-ring performers to watch. He's so quick and it's amazing that he's nearly flawless with his execution in the ring.

BxB Hulk came out for the main event to a huge pop and did his dance routine. He concluded his routine by taking off his wig to reveal he shaved his head. WTF!

6 - - BxB HULK vs. MASAAKI MOCHIZUKI – DGUSA Open the Freedom Gate title match

Mochizuki and Hulk came to a stalemate during the early stages of the match and the crowd applauded. Hulk got the upper hand and went to work on Mochizuki's leg. Mochizuki fired back and sent Hulk flying to the outside with a running kick to his back. Hulk missed a kick on the outside and ended up kicking the ringpost. Mochizuki then began working over Hulk's injured leg. The crowd was solidly behind Hulk as they chanted his name while Mochizuki worked him over. Hulk tried to kick his way back into the match, but Mochizuki shrugged them off and obliterated Hulk with a kick of his own.

Hulk finally mounted a comeback and nailed Mochizuki with a springboard missile dropkick and the crowd applauded. Mochizuki fired back and caught Hulk with a running kick in the corner. Hulk countered a German and nailed Mochizuki with a superkick for a nearfall. Mochizuki countered a superkick and nailed Hulk with a series of kicks to the head for a nearfall. Mochizuki then hit a twisting brainbuster for another nearfall and the crowd roared. The crowd really began to buy into Mochizuki as a threat to Hulk, but Mochizuki couldn't put him away. Hulk hit the E.V.O out of nowhere, but he was too exhausted to make the pin. The crowd broke into a "this is wrestling" chant. Both men got to their feet and exchanged kicks. Hulk hit E.V.O off the top rope, but Mochizuki kicked out. Hulk couldn't put Mochizuki away and the crowd went nuts. Hulk finally finished off Mochizuki with a superkick to the head while he was on his knees. Wow! That was insane.

WINNER: BxB Hulk to retain the Open The Freedom Gate title

STAR RATING: (****1/4) – This match more than held its own in the main event slot. I wasn't overwhelmed by Hulk's last title defense that I saw on the "Fearless" PPV against Dragon Kid, but this match was fantastic. The crowd didn't buy into Mochizuki as a threat to Hulk at first, but once they did, the crowd was red hot for the action inside the ring. This felt like a showcase main event by the end, so both men deserve a lot of credit for pulling that off given what they had to follow.

One of Hulk's dancers came out with white paint on her face. Kamikaze USA jumped Hulk from behind and Moxley taunted him. Moxley told Hulk they were going to take his belt and Shingo delivered a DVD to Hulk to end the show

Overall thoughts: (9.0) - I was pleased with the last DGUSA PPV and this show continued on what I was impressed with about the "Uprising" PPV. DGUSA continues to build feuds and showcase great matches. The pacing of this PPV was very good with a lot of good backstage segments and highlight packages. Not only is DGUSA building new stars, but they setting up some really interesting programs for them.

Gargano had a very good opening match against CIMA. I didn't like Younger's performance against Doi quite as much, but the Four Way with Cole, Cannon, Ricochet, and Taylor stole the show. I'm really excited to see what this talent does going forward in DGUSA. The big matches on the show all delivered and this show featured the perfect mix between in-ring action with enough storyline elements to bring you back for the next PPV. Highly recommended.
