SUPER SMACKDOWN HITS

Fandango vs. Reigns: I did not like how Roman Reigns attacked Fandango on Raw, but once you do that, you have to follow up with a match. I liked seeing Reigns' return match happen at Smackdown to make Smackdown feel important. Yes, this was the special live Super Smackdown as part of WWE Week on USA, but it was still a Smackdown. I also liked seeing a match start off the show after the extremely long talking segment that started off Raw the night before. This was a solid match to get Reigns a strong win in his first match back.

Ambrose - Wyatt: On the whole, I haven't been a fan of this feud between Dean Ambrose and Bray Wyatt. But, I did like this promo exchange between them. They were both good on the mic. I like how Ambrose said he saw fear in Wyatt's eyes and how he is just as crazy as Wyatt is. Wyatt can sometimes come across like he is trying to get the fans to cheer him. His promos are often confusing and a little bit too convoluted for me. But here, he was straight forward and came across like a clear heel. His delivery was very strong. I liked this type of presentation for his character.

Rowan & The Usos vs. Harper, Miz & Mizdow: I enjoyed this match. I don't know if I should call Damian Mizdow a guilty pleasure, as I don't really feel much guilt in how much I enjoy it. I know it can't last forever and I do worry that once Mizdow is on his own, he won't get cheered since he won't be mimicking The Miz any more, but I am going to enjoy the ride while it lasts. I loved when Miz got angry at Mizdow for mimicking Luke Harper instead of himself. That was a very funny moment. The match itself had plenty of good wrestling action. They do very well with teasing tags to Mizdow, while keeping the heat on Miz and Harper instead of transferring it to the babyface team for beating up the popular heel. I also liked how Harper played his character in terms of his interaction with his teammates. They did the same with Erick Rowan on the other side too.

Ryback / Rusev / Rollins / Ziggler: I thought this was a very good segment from start to finish. I loved how Rusev attacked Ryback from behind to take him out of his scheduled match against Seth Rollins. After some fans had a sympathetic view of Rusev and Lana after Chris Jericho's over the top verbal attack on Raw, this clearly painted them as heels who should be booed (this has not been a problem with the clear heel Rusev for the most part, but I liked that they did something so strong after the one bad night on Raw). I wasn't looking forward to Rusev vs. Rollins, so I was fine with the match getting cancelled. Rollins' follow up connecting what happened to Ryback to the lawlessness of the Authority-free WWE that he has been harping on was very clever. It worked out perfectly well and Rollins was good in his delivery. It was good to hear Rollins take credit for orchestrating Brock Lesnar's beatings of Jericho and Cena on Raw (and he followed up more on the situation later in the interview with Renee Young). I liked Dolph Ziggler's interruption. There is too much fuzziness with who is in charge of Smackdown. Ziggler said that Rollins was contractually obligated to wrestle, but who enforces those contracts? But, I liked the fact that Rollins accepted the challenge. I like that in making the challenge, Ziggler called himself a great wrestler, not a great sports entertainer. While he did say that he would steal the show, he also said that he would beat Rollins in the end, making the outcome of the match actually seem important to him, not just entertaining the fans. This made me excited for a main event between two guys who have wrestled multiple times recently. So, top to bottom I thought this was one of the better segments on recent WWE tv.

Rollins vs. Ziggler: As I said above, I was looking forward to the main event, and it delivered. I have enjoyed watching Rollins and Ziggler wrestle each other every time they have faced and this was no different. They did a nice job of incorporating Rollins' injured ribs into how they put this match together. J & J Security played their parts well. I enjoy watching them try to cheat for Rollins in this kind of match much more than watching them blatantly cheat off and on throughout a no DQ type match like we saw at TLC and Raw. It was good to see Ziggler get the big win here. WWE really had to capitalize on Ziggler being the lone survivor to put The Authority out of business at Survivor Series. I don't think they have done a great job of that so far, but giving him the win here certainly helps.

SUPER SMACKDOWN MISSES

Uso Family Drama: I continue to not care about this Total Divas inspired storyline with Jimmy Uso and Naomi and The Miz. The initial scene backstage between Jimmy and Naomi was ok. I don't care about it, but there was nothing wrong with that scene. However, I didn't like the ending of Naomi's Divas Title match against Nikki Bella. Naomi isn't a good enough actor to play sad like that. Plus, it was her own fault for not paying attention to her opponent. Are we supposed to side with her for what Jimmy did to "cause" a distraction? Are we supposed to side with Jimmy since she is obviously falling for Miz's evil plot? I don't really want to side with either of them. Also, Miz has made multiple references to being married. Even if you don't know who his wife is, fans should know that he has a wife. The fact that he is seemingly hitting on another man's wife should bring up the fact that he himself is also married. But, of course they don't mention that. I just don't think this is a good storyline.

Nicknames: I understand that this is nothing new for WWE, but it just seems to be getting out of hand. Everyone seems to now be called "The BLANK" before their name. The Lunatic Fringe Dean Ambrose. The Juggernaut Roman Reigns. The Architect Seth Rollins. At least The Viper Randy Orton fits his personality and sounds good. Even if "Lunatic Fringe" sort of fits Ambrose's personality, it sounds dippy. "The Juggernaut" sounds stupid. "The Architect" is a holdover from a lame moniker that Michael Cole gave Seth Rollins during The Shield days, and it didn't make sense back then, and I don't think it makes much sense now. I also don't like how Sting is now "The Vigilante" Sting. I'm ok with someone like Rollins angrily referring to Sting as a vigilante. That makes sense given his role at Survivor Series. But, don't make it apart of his name like Viper has become part of Orton's name. It is just lame and not needed for Sting.
