Thanks for your support of our App and keep spreading the word about PWTorch to your friends who are wrestling fans!

Pro Wrestling Torch was established in 1987 by Wade Keller. One of the primary traits PWTorch has been credited with over the years is assembling the best and most diverse staff of columnists with broad knowledge, but also areas of specialty where they have a particularly strong grasp of history. Every day PWTorch.com presents that team of writers answering your questions, some of which are fact-based and others of which are opinion-based. Either way, we've got you covered with Bruce Mitchell, Pat McNeill, Sean Radican, Greg Parks, James Caldwell, and Wade Keller. Collectively they have over 80 years working for the Torch, writing about wrestling and studying industry history and trends.

If you have a question you'd like us to respond to, send your question to askpwtorch@gmail.com. I, along with the Torch staff, will address you questions in this feature and also the “Ask PWTorch: All-Star Panel” edition which is also published most days here at PWTorch.

PWTorch reader Aaron P. asks: Do you think it's disrespectful to Jake Roberts when somebody like Randy Orton or The Rock uses the DDT as just a move and not as a finisher? I went to a live event once where Orton DDT'd an opponent on the floor outside of the ring. When Jake did that to Ricky Steamboat it was a huge angle. Now it's just another move. It sort of reminds me of when guys used to always get pinned after getting hit with a steel chair, whereas now they often kick out. Did everyone all of a sudden become stronger or something?

PWTorch audio host Travis Bryant answers: Disrespectful to Jake Roberts? Then the entire wrestling business is disrespectful to everything that came before it because nothing is over or means what it once did. Chris Jericho's Lionsault was a legit finisher 15 years ago. Is he disrespecting himself by using it as a set-up move now? Good or bad (mostly bad), this is the way things work now. Watch a Luke rap video from 1990. Then it was considered gross, gaudy, and sexist. Today that same style is used to sell us cheeseburgers and hairspray. Things change, a lot of time for the worse.

PWTorch columnist Greg Parks answers: I don't think it's disrespectful to Roberts as much as it's the evolution of the business. You had guys in the early days of the 20th Century, and even later, winning matches with elbowdrops and the like. Was it disrespectful for guys in Jake's day to use that and others like it as transition moves? Of course not. That said, I would like to see moves like that mean something in the context of the match and more long-term selling done with all moves, not just former finishing moves.

PWTorch reader Chris from Leeds, U.K. asks: Hi guys, big fan of the site and the podcasts. My question is regarding the recent viral trend of RKO Vines. With thousands of people now attempting their own RKOs, are WWE and Orton been irresponsible in praising them on social media considering all the "Don't try this at home" work they do? I know it's fantastic for Orton to finally get over with the general public and they'd be foolish to not play off the hype, but what happens when someone breaks a neck from a botched attempt at the move?

PWTorch assistant editor James Caldwell answers: Great question. I think WWE is so happy to get some mainstream acceptance via Orton that they probably haven't given too much thought to whether people will start hurting each other attempting RKOs or trying to make their own RKO Vines. WWE should probably consider a disclaimer when they acknowledge the vines, though. I don't think it has to be ultra-serious, though, as it can be somewhat lighthearted like "only a professional like Randy Orton can deliver an RKO worthy of a Vine" to match the humorous nature of the fad.

PWTorch reader Forrest M. asks: I have always been a huge fan of Dustin Runnells (Rhodes/Goldust) ever since I first saw him in WCW. His late-'90s version of Goldust I could've done without, but I still enjoyed his work. He seems to be in really great shape now, so my question is: Could Goldust have one more good singles run? Not a main event run but possibly a high middle of the card run?

PWTorch columnist Pat McNeill answers: Goldust is talented enough to have some good singles matches. However, WWE believes Goldust is more valuable as a tag team wrestler. Given how well he and Cody have worked together over the past two years, it's hard to disagree with that assessment.

===

PWTorch reader David C. asks: What's a match that you saw that put one of (or both) of the wrestlers involved on your radar of "ones to watch"?

PWTorch columnist Sean Radican answers: There have been several over the years. When I saw Davey Richards debut live against Jimmy Rave in ROH, I thought he was going to be a big deal. I was impressed with Dean Ambrose as well the first time I saw him, but it was his promo ability that told me he was going to be someone to watch and not necessarily his match, but I remember watching the way he carried himself. When I saw him feud with Jimmy Jacobs in DGUSA, I knew he was someone to watch. Seth Rollins really grabbed my attention when he faced ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness in an incredible match when he got his first shot at the title on a PPV taping. McGuinness in his documentary used footage of the match to show how wrestling matches are a work of art and it really was an incredible match that showed me Rollins was someone to keep an eye on.
