Ask the Specialists Roundtable #52

- Question from Mark in Long Island: In your personal opinion, who do you want to see booked or pushed better? Not from a business point of view but as a fan. One male Superstar, one female, and one tag team.

- "Mr. TV" Justin James (@Justin_M_James) responds: Mark, without a doubt the male is Cesaro. I crave his long-form matches like the ones he had with Sami Zayn on NXT last year - they were something truly magnificent to behold. Unfortunately, he got paired with Paul Heyman, who is great at putting heat on himself, but it sometimes does not transfer to who he gets matched with. I’d love to see Paige booked better. They truly flubbed her introduction, but it looks like they are quickly correcting that. And for tag teams? I’m tempted to say “The Shield” because I think they had a lot more life in them, but let’s stick to true “teams” and I’ll go with the American Wolves in TNA.

- "Hits & Misses" Jon Mezzera responds: I think that Damien Sandow has not been well utilized since he won Money in the Bank a little over a year ago. His time with the briefcase was not well used. His cash-in failed to elevate him the way many fans thought that it would. I understand the argument that he is on Raw every week and that Vince McMahon likes him and what he is doing. But, since this question is about my personal opinion as a fan, I would like to see Sandow's talent better utilized than these poor comedy bits that he's been involved in over the past several months.

For the Divas, I would say Natalya. She is a bad actor, but a good wrestler, so I would like to see her get more opportunities to show off her talents in the ring. As far as a tag team goes, none jump to mind. The Usos and the Wyatts are the best they have and they have been the most pushed over the last few months, so I can't complain about that. Rybaxel is okay, but I don't need to see them in a better position, and Los Matadores are lame. The teams that I was really high on earlier this year (in addition to the Usos) were The Real Americans and Goldust & Cody Rhodes. The Real Americans broke up and Goldust & Cody have shifted into Goldust & Stardust, who are just annoying to me. I guess my answer for that would be to see the creation of a new team that I actually want to see pushed more than any of the current teams on the roster.

- "Mr. PPV" Nathan Kyght responds: Cesaro, Natalya, and Los Matadores. Let me clarify: Cesaro was red-hot a few months back but the company now seems to just push him at arbitrary times. Consistency is much needed. Natalya had a fantastic match at the NXT special with the (also great) Charlotte, and if WWE ever wants it's women's division to be taken seriously, why not push strong female competitors? And, Los Matadores because in-ring I think they have a lot to offer, but the gimmick is dreadful. Repackage them and let's get a feud with The Usos going.

- "Common Fan" Jimmy Eaton (@TheCommonFan) responds: Thanks for the question, Mark. Mine would be: Dolph Ziggler, Naomi, and Goldust/Stardust. It's tough because some are actually in feuds already, but I think they have the talent to do more. Give Ziggler a chance to sink his teeth into an original angle, get Naomi away from Total Divas and with someone else who can wrestle (Paige and A.J. would be my first choices, but I like what their doing with them currently), and in the case of Goldust/Stardust, give them something to do besides the odd promos so they can have fun tag matches instead of the same stuff over and over again. Working against the Usos in a long program or even the Wyatts would be much more fun. An extra one I'll throw in is this - the NXT star I'd like to see moved up and pushed to the moon is Sami Zayn. Incredible sympathetic babyface talent that has money-drawing talent.

- "Instant Reaction" Ben Tucker (@BTuckerTorch) responds: I love this question! For those who follow my Twitter account, you probably won't be surprised when I say that Cody Rhodes needs to be pushed better. Rhodes has excelled in spite of the questionable gimmicks given to him over the years and he has the potential to be a true breakout heel for the company.

In terms of female competitors, I'd like to see more of Summer Rae on the main roster in active competition. She's done fine work in the Divas division while on NXT, but hasn't been given enough of a competitive spotlight on WWE programming. Finally, I see Rybaxel as a great tag team that, if given the chance, can be a fantastic number two tag team in the division. Most of this positivity revolves around Ryback, who really came into his own as a character right as his year-long push grinded to a halt. Other, now-defunct tag teams such as the Prime Time Players would have had more potential than Rybaxel, but considering the division is still lacking teams, Ryback and Curtis Axel get the honors.

- "Showstopper" Shawn Valentino responds: Thanks for your question, Mark. That is a difficult question because there really is no tag team division and the women's division is a joke. I would rather have WWE dismantle each division instead of portraying them in such a inconsequential fashion over the years.

If I were to see one Superstar pushed to the top, it would be Dean Ambrose. He has the dangerous aura of an unhinged psychopathic, he is brilliant on the microphone, and he is one of the coolest young wrestlers in WWE. I think he will be an incredible heel and I hope they let him loose to showcase his edgy persona. A feud between him and the cheesy John Cena or perhaps a returning Daniel Bryan or C.M. Punk would be terrific. He is one of those rare talents that commands the screen as soon as you see him and is my favorite of WWE's class of young Superstars.
