Ask the Specialists Roundtable #22

- Question from Matt in Michigan: What happens when Bray Wyatt & Bo Dallas inevitably meet? I mean, they're both more or less cult-like leaders. I'm sure Bo can find a couple of Bo-lievers to make it an even three-on-three scenario at some point (Tyson Kidd & Kofi Kingston aren't really doing anything, neither is Zack Ryder). Tyson Kidd's cheshire cat-like smile would look perfect next to Bo's. Kofi's would work too for that matter, plus Kofi needs a repackaging job if he's ever gonna go anywhere.

- "Mr. PPV" Nathan Kyght responds: I'm not sure if the plan for Bo Dallas is to be a 'cult leader' figure, as opposed to what he was doing an NXT: a guy that acts like such a sickly sweet babyface that he doesn't realize he's a heel. Still, the idea of Bo and Bray (real-life brothers) interacting is a fun one, although I think it's much more likely going to be a nod and a wink backstage segment to those that know the two are related.

We'll have to wait and see, but the Bo Dallas character (much like Adam Rose) seems geared toward mid-card filler as opposed to a guy who comes in and seems like a threat to the top spots. Bray's character is (and should be ) kept much more serious, and while anything is possible I think the two won't necessarily be headed for a cult leader type battle any time soon.

- "Mr. TV" Justin James (@Justin_M_James) responds: One thing we've seen is that NXT is the proving grounds and final polish before someone hits the main roster. The only NXT recruits who have any noticeable differences from their NXT presentation are Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. I do not expect Bo Dallas to be any different, and in NXT, there really was no Bo Dallas cult or stable or faction, there never was a single Bo-liever, and there never was any kind of clash between him and the Wyatts apart from logical friction around championships. So, I really do not think that WWE plans on having any Bo-lievers appear or to have Dallas meet Wyatt.

Also, the genius of the Bo Dallas gimmick is that he is totally deluded. There are no Bo-lievers outside of his imagination. As soon as some show up and justify his crazy ideas, he becomes less of a heat magnet. Remember, this is a guy who drew true nuclear heel heat, not "go away heat" but REAL HEAT at FSU which will just as often cheer a heel as boo him. Dallas is so strong as a heel, his in-ring skills are secondary (and that is lucky for him). I don't see WWE being willing to tinker with a proven winner.

- "Falls Count Anywhere" Tony Donofrio (@TonyDonofrio) responds: I don't necessarily see three-on-three warfare coming out of that encounter. I'd love to see them exploit that they are indeed family though and see where that goes whether it is Bo becoming a part of the family or Bray being outed as a cult leader by Bo somehow. There are some interesting dynamics though that could come out of this down the line.

- "Showstopper" Shawn Valentino responds: Thank you for your question, Matt. I have not watched NXT, but from what I have seen on the vignettes hyping Bo's arrival, I think he could be a very good heel cult leader that can form a faction with some of the misguided talent. I do not think Tyson Kidd and Kofi Kingston are worth investing in as neither have really shown much charisma or character depth, and they have been around for years. I was thinking about going in a different direction with a guy that actually has a large upside but is completely off track as a character. How about making Dolph Ziggler, who is obvious to how uncool he is right now, part of Bo's clan? I think he could use a character overhaul and maybe in about a year, he can turn on Bo and become a face. I would like to see Bo come in similarly to Bray, with an entourage of new talent that fans have not already branded as mid-carders.

It is inevitable that Bray Wyatt and Bo will meet, but I think they should build on it and have a nuanced story leading to their clash, something WWE is not very good at. On another note, I really love that WWE is going back to doing vignettes for incoming talent. The Johnny Ace years saw about a half-decade of generic wrestlers without much persona. Guys like Adam Rose and Bo already had some familiarity before finally arriving on television. Hopefully, WWE is as successful with Bo as they have been with Bray.

- "Common Fan" Jimmy Eaton (@TheCommonFan) responds: Hi Matt. Fun idea, but in order for anyone to go up against Bray at this point needs to be built up a lot more than they are now. Hard to say if it would work given both are heels too. Impossible? Of course not, it would probably be fun to see. But guys like Tyson, Ryder, Kofi, and Bo would need a lot more build up for fans to be invested. Fun fantasy booking, though. Thanks for the question.
