KELLER’S WWE SUMMERSLAM REPORT
AUGUST 17, 2014
LOS ANGELES, CALIF.
AIRED LIVE ON PPV & WWE NETWORK

-Ric Flair was part of the pre-show panel along with Booker T and Alex Riley.

(A) Rob Van Dam beat Cesaro in the Kick-off show opener.

-Hulk Hogan introduced the show and plugged the WWE Network. He pushed the $9.99 schtick they’ve been doing. He posed on the stage.

(1) THE MIZ vs. DOLPH ZIGGLER - IC Title match

WINNER: Ziggler at 7:55.

NOTE: Good opener... Fast-paced and athletic... Ziggler kicked out of the Skull Crushing Finale and then landed the Zig Zag for the clean win... This gives WWE a babyface championship win and a babyface champ to perhaps be in the spotlight should Brock Lesnar become a heel champ later...

(2) A.J. LEE vs. PAIGE - Divas Title match

WINNER: Paige to capture the Divas Title.

NOTES: A.J. yanked a wad of Paige's hair out early... A.J. dove onto Paige at ringside, then scored a near fall in the ring... A.J. applied the Black Widow, but Paige reversed it and drove A.J.'s head into the mat for the clean win... Paige lifted A.J. after the match and kissed her on the cheek, then gloated...

(3) RUSEV (w/Lana) vs. JACK SWAGGER (w/Zeb) - Flag Match

WINNER: Rusev at 8:56.

NOTES: Good back and forth match with the appropriate intensity from Swagger start to finish... Rusev won when the ref deemed that Swagger passed out in the Accolade... Lana was tremendous in her role... Based on the stips, Rusev stood with Lana holding the flag as the Russian National Anthem played... JBL said he was disgusted...

(4) SETH ROLLINS vs. DEAN AMBROSE

WINNER: Rollins at 10:48.

NOTES: Really good match. Great frenetic intensity throughout. They brawled and dove at ringside, with lumberjacks getting involved. Eventually Rollins tried to escape into the lower deck, but Ambrose caught up to him. They brawled. Kane sent the lumberjacks up to get them. They dragged Ambrose back to the ring, while Rollins tried to sneak away. Babyface lumberjacks carried Rollins back to the ring where Ambrose leaped off the top rope onto them on the floor... For the finish, Ambrose was about to pin Rollins, but Kane interfered. Chaos with the lumberjacks ensued. Once Ambrose cleared the ring, Rollins surprised him with a shot to the head with the MITB briefcase to get the win...

(5) BRAY WYATT vs. CHRIS JERICHO

WINNER: Bray at 13:01.

NOTES: Solid match. They brought the crowd down in the first half with a somewhat slower pace and a long Bray chinlock. Then things picked up and it became a good above-average match... In the end, Bray hit Jericho with a taped thumb to the throat, then a Sister Abigail into the ringside barrier. Then back in the ring Bray hit another Sister Abigail for the win... Bray sang "Whole World" afterward... The crowd engaged in two long battle chants split for Bray and Jericho...

(6) STEPHANIE MCMAHON vs. BRIE BELLA

WINNER: Stephanie at 11:48.

NOTES: Good enough performance from Steph and Brie. Steph has the McMahon charisma working for her... In the end, Nikki turned on Brie, setting up Steph to get the pin... Triple H a minute earlier came out and yanked the ref out of the ring as it appeared he was about to award the match to Brie when she had Steph in the Yes Lock. Brie slidekicked Triple H and then stood over him doing the Yes! chant. That was the end of the feel good moments, though... The crowd was deflated after the Nikki turn...

(7) ROMAN REIGNS vs. RANDY ORTON

WINNER: Reigns at 16:30.

NOTES: Good match. Reigns wasn't getting the pops that a star shooting to the top of the card should get, but it's a long journey... Reigns kicked out of an RKO and then avoided the Punt Kick and hit the spear for the win.

(8) JOHN CENA vs. BROCK LESNAR - WWE World Hvt. Title match

WINNER: Lesnar in 16:06 to capture the WWE World Hvt. Title.

NOTES: Lesnar dominated start to finish. Cena put up one flurry of offense at the very start, and two other brief flurries that led to near falls, but overall Lesnar reacted by laughing at Cena and then methodically destroying him and winning with an F5... The story was Cena put up a huge fight, but Lesnar was just tougher and more dominant and outclassed him... Cole said: "WWE now has to deal with Brock Lesnar"...
