WWE star Daniel Bryan talked about how close he is to being cleared to wrestle again in a new interview promoting his new book, "Yes!: My Improbable Journey to the Main Event of WrestleMania."

"I feel great. Realistically, I am just waiting for WWE doctors’ clearance. I’m cleared by one doctor already. Getting cleared by doctors sometimes is the hardest part and they’re looking out for my well-being. It’s just kind of a wait-and-see kind of thing," Bryan told Brian Fritz for Sporting News.

Bryan also responded to Bret Hart recently telling Sports Illustrated that he believes Bryan's career is over, but he does not know it yet.

"His circumstances were different from my circumstances. It’s just one of those things where people only know their own reality. That goes for me, it goes for you, it goes for anybody. If you think you know what somebody else is going through, odds are you probably don’t. So, it doesn’t hurt my feelings he said that. I just think he doesn’t know the situation," Bryan replied.

When/if Bryan does return to the ring, Bryan said he's not sure where he will fit in the WWE TV landscape. Bryan's WWE World Title run was cut off by injury in 2014; his IC Title run was cut off by a reported concussion situation this year. Now, Bryan says he's not sure where he will land.

"It’s been very frustrating because coming back I had really big plans for the Intercontinental Championship and really thought of ideas of stuff to do with that and stuff that was creatively fun and that sort of thing. But I never got a chance to do them and you don’t know if you’re going to get that chance again," Bryan said.

"I thought Battleground was really good but why was Cesaro not on that show? He wasn’t in a featured match on that show because he doesn’t have anybody he’s in a story with or anything like that. That’s what I wanted the Intercontinental Championship to be was something he could get, these guys who don’t get the opportunity to be involved in a lot of stories. They’d get to be involved in a story and whatever happens at the end of it, whoever wins and loses, that we’re both better off because of it."

Bryan acknowledged that he likely will not be in a top spot again like he was heading into WrestleMania 30 last year. He said that's a combination of Vince McMahon not seeing him as "the guy" and his injury situation affecting how he is perceived.

"I think (McMahon) likes me, he sees me as a valuable performer. He sees me as someone who makes the company money. But I still don’t think he will ever see me as 'the guy' in the way he sees John Cena as 'the guy' or in the way he potentially sees Roman Reigns as 'the guy.' To this day, I still don’t think he sees me like that," Bryan said.
