WWE top star John Cena rarely does local media interviews at this stage of his career, but Cena talked to the Corpus Christi (Texas) Caller Times to promote the Elimination Chamber event on Sunday.

The newspaper did not quote Cena on his opponent, Kevin Owens, but Cena talked about several other topics:

- On trying to restore the U.S. Title: "I don't think the United States Championship has been given the respect it deserves. It truly is the trophy of our country... (Personally), it's got a different meaning with a different purpose now."

- On the U.S. Title Open Challenge: "I want to give (the opportunity to) those new Superstars. Maybe those Superstars who feel they've been shackled down without a chance.

"I use Daniel Bryan as a fantastic example. The stuff that kid had to overcome to get to the main stage. I think there's a lot of those individuals out there; and I want to use the United States Championship platform to, at least, give those guys a chance to step up to the plate."

- On his new Springboard Stunner move: "I knew I was going to have to bring something a little special for Rusev (at WrestleMania). Believe it or not, with all my in-ring experience, I actually took back to the canvas, and practiced a little bit, had some fun; and that's what I came up with."

- On the Elimination Chamber match: "When you walk into an event like the Elimination Chamber, it is extra special. And you know it's a bigger stage - it's a grander audience - everyone's looking for that special something. As a champion, those are the environments you want."
