WWE Smackdown TV news & notes 5/14

PWTorch columnist Greg Parks's TV Report will be posted later this weekend...

- The main focus was on tension between Kane (representing The Authority) and Payback PPV main-eventers Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns leading into the WWE World Title match on Sunday. The fourth main-eventer, Randy Orton, did not appear on Smackdown.

In the main event, Reigns beat Kane in a match where there must be a winner, which turned into a street fight with various weapons involved. Reigns finished Kane with a spear through a table for the pinfall.

- Leading into Payback, WWE World Hvt. champion Seth Rollins scored a pinfall victory over Ryback after Bray Wyatt attacked Ryback before the match.

The show then ended with Ambrose and Reigns brawling with Rollins and J&J Security at the backstage interview set. Ambrose and Reigns were the last men standing and stood over the fallen WWE World Title belt. Ambrose picked up the belt and put it over Reigns's shoulder, then vowed to take it on Sunday. The show ended with a close-up of the belt held by Reigns.

- Lana returned to TV with Rusev to read a prepared statement apologizing for giving into American customs by accepting the audience's adulation. After Lana forced an apology, Rusev vowed to make John Cena say I Quit at Payback.

- Advertised for the June 2 Smackdown TV taping in Houston is a bonus main event of Reigns & Dolph Ziggler & Ryback vs. WWE World champion Seth Rollins & Big Show & Bray Wyatt in a six-man tag match.

- Match Results: (1) Dean Ambrose beat Sheamus. ... (2) WWE World Hvt. champion Seth Rollins (w/J&J Security) beat Ryback in a non-title match. ... (3) Tyson Kidd (w/Cesaro and Natalya) beat WWE tag champion Kofi Kingston (w/Big E. and Xavier Woods) via submission. ... (4) Neville beat Bo Dallas. ... (5) Roman Reigns beat Kane in a Street Fight.
