-- February 20: The day after Dr. Chris Amann filed a defamation suit against C.M. Punk and Colt Cabana, WWE released a statement to PWTorch detailing their investigation into Punk's allegations that WWE's medical staff did not appropriately treat what Punk described as a life-threatening growth on his back in late 2013 and early 2014.

According to WWE, the first time WWE was made aware of the "alleged condition" was in a letter from Punk's attorney after WWE terminated Punk's contract on August 22, 2014, eight months after Punk exited WWE the day after the Royal Rumble.

According to WWE, Punk "did not discuss this alleged condition with WWE’s team of physicians and trainers, nor did he discuss it with anyone in our Talent Relations department." WWE says they have "no medical records documenting this alleged condition."

WWE also offered anecdotal evidence to dispute Punk, saying from their viewpoint there did not appear to be a "baseball-sized growth on C.M. Punk’s back" when Punk competed in his final WWE match in the Royal Rumble.

WWE said they "continue to have the utmost confidence in the ability and expertise of our world-class team of physicians, including Dr. Amann."

During the podcast with Cabana on November 27, Punk claimed that WWE's medical team refused to identity what was on Punk's back, adding that he wrestled with the disputed growth on his back for three months.

Punk claimed WWE's medical team gave him antibiotics for the symptoms he was experiencing. After exiting WWE in January, Punk claimed that an independent doctor recommended by his wife, A.J. Lee, identified the disputed mass as "a full-blown staph infection" that was life-threatening.

Punk said the doctor cut it, squeezed the puss out, patched it up, and gave him three months of antibiotics. Asked by Cabana why antibiotics given to him by WWE's doctors did not work, Punk recalled the doctor telling him that staph requires a specific type of antibiotic to kill the infection. Since Punk claims WWE's medical team refused to identify the disputed growth on Punk's back, they were unable to specifically treat the disputed infection.

-- February 19: Chris Amann, the WWE doctor who sits ringside during matches, filed a defamation lawsuit against C.M. Punk (Phil Brooks) and Colt Cabana (Scott Colton) Thursday in Illinois court, reports the Chicago Sun Times.

Dr. Amann is seeking "more than $2 million in damages" on two counts of defamation and invasion of privacy. The suit is in response to the Thanksgiving 2014 conversation on Cabana's podcast where Punk ripped WWE's medical staff and protocols.

Although Punk did not specify the "doc" who Punk claimed ignored a growing cyst on his back that could have been life-threatening, the assumption is Punk referred to Dr. Amann. The other assumption is Punk referred to Dr. Amann when discussing WWE's Impact concussion testing, which Punk called "b.s." on the podcast.

Dr. Amann disputed Punk's account in the suit. The doctor claimed that he "never refused to treat Brooks for a lump or growth of any kind, and did not prescribe antibiotics for broken ribs or other injuries," reports the Sun Times. "The doctor further claimed he followed all concussion protocols and told Brooks to leave wrestling matches after signs of a possible concussion."
