Former WWE announcer Jim Ross says his venture into MMA broadcasting next month is currently a one-time gig. However, if the role works out, he would like to call more MMA fight cards in the future.

Ross, who will be calling the October 3 "Battleground MMA" card on PPV, says he hopes the broadcast with former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen is the right fit at this stage of his career.

"It's a new challenge, a new gig, a new opportunity. We were able to work it out," Ross told Dave Meltzer of MMAFighting.com. "I suggested, I thought Chael would be a great partner. I've worked with a lot of explosive, controversial broadcasters in my day, including former Gov. Jesse Ventura, Jerry Lawler, Paul Heyman and many others. It felt right. I felt we'd have good chemistry. I don't know. It may be a train wreck, but I assure you, it won't be boring."

As for calling boxing again, Ross noted he is currently talking to Fox about more broadcasting opportunities in 2015.

As part of his deal with Fox, Ross wrote this week about former UFC fighter/current WWE World Hvt. champion Brock Lesnar. Ross focused on various stories and background on Lesnar making his way through WWE Developmental to the main WWE roster before leaving for UFC and returning to WWE in 2012.
