WWE Smackdown TV taping report
September 2, 2014
Lincoln, Neb.
Report by Reyal Pollard, PWTorch correspondent

- The arena was 80 percent “full” with only the hard camera area, a small section next to it, and the upper bowl tarped off.

- Interesting note from the concession stand: There were signs posted saying that “The net proceeds of all Stephanie McMahon merchandise will be given to the Connor’s Cure Foundation.” So, to support Crusher Connor, you have to buy Stephanie’s head-turning shirts. It’s really a shame they didn’t run this promotion with Daniel Bryan’s shirts and offered to match the proceeds as that would make a much bigger donation impact.

- Dark Match: Naomi beat Cameron with the Rear View. Short match that only served the purpose of getting the crowd interacting and noisy. After the match, Naomi did an extended dance number to her ring music.

Around this time, a huge “We Want Cena” chant started, setting the tone for a babyface-loving night.

Main Event Show Notes

- The crowd was very pro-Ziggler. Good match between Dolph Ziggler and Damien Sandow even though Ziggler does too good of a job seeming vulnerable. He shouldn’t be selling for Sandow the same way he sells for big matches. At that point it just becomes cartoony. Ziggler rant over.

- The collective sigh let out during the first recap of the Bella Twin drama let me know that this feud is not over with the casual fans. They showed a number of times Brie Bella’s tweet apologizing to her family for putting her hands on her sister. Is this how The Undertaker and Kane’s first feud would have played out if Twitter existed in '97?

- I’m not sure how it came off on TV, but the Rhodes Bros. vs Los Matadores match went way too long. The moment that the Matadores walked out without Torito, they were instant heels to the kids. Lots of pro-Goldust chants. For some inexplicable reason, he seemed to be working like a babyface for the first half of the match. He got a lot of sympathy from the crowd up until Stardust got the tag.

Superstars SPOILERS 9/4

WWE taped more match action for Superstars...

Adam Rose made his entrance to a mix of singing and quietness. Strange but it happened. Titus O’Neil came to the ring next to some decent heat. He threatened Rose’s bunny and then proceeded to cut a promo on the Huskers, which garnered lots of heat.

(1) Adam Rose beat Titus O’Neil with a roll-up. Short match with Rose doing all the selling. Titus got a microphone and demanded a re-match. He then went all out on the “Fat, corn-fed” Nebraskans and started touting how he is a winner like his Florida Gators. The crowd gave a huge wave of boos on that one. Rose returned to the ring for a re-match.

(2) Adam Rose beat Titus O’Neil with the Party Foul. This took about ten seconds. Post-match, the Bunny ran into the ring to hump O’Neil as he got up from the finisher. Somewhere, Vince McMahon was falling on the floor laughing.
