WWE Smackdown TV taping report
January 28, 2014
Toledo, Ohio
Report by Christopher, long-time PWTorch reader

Smackdown SPOILERS 1/31

The Shield opened the show with an interview and called out the Wyatts for costing them the Elimination Chamber shot on Raw. Vickie Guerrero interrupted, but was then chased off by Triple H. Hunter told The Shield to simply get over it and let it go. Seth Rollins argued with Hunter, who stared him down and told him to get over it. Finally, Roman Reigns went nose-to-nose with Hunter, who gave in, saying that the Elimination Chamber PPV would feature the Wyatts vs. The Shield. Hunter warned The Shield: "I hope you guys know what you're getting into." The crowd was into the segment, but was disappointed that the match wasn't going to happen tonight.

(1) Antonio Cesaro (w/Zeb Colter) beat Dolph Ziggler in an Elimination Chamber qualification match. The crowd was behind Dolph, who was pinned after a short Cesaro Swing. Now, only one spot left in the Chamber...

(2) Fandango (w/Summer Rae) beat Xavier Woods. The crowd was too busy dancing to pay attention to the match. After the pin, Fandango kept assaulting Xavier until R-Truth ran out in street clothes to make the save.

(3) Christian beat Jack Swagger (w/Zeb Colter) in the final Elimination Chamber qualifying match. Colter was on commentary. Good technical match. The crowd loved screaming "We, The People" with Jack every two minutes. But, Christian surprised everyone with a roll-up pin while Zeb had a tantrum. Swagger and Zeb had words in the ring afterwards and teased a break-up.

Backstage, there was a great interview with Christian, who appeared more intense than ever before. He noted that his window to win the championship was closing and he was planning to be more dangerous than ever before. Nice promo and the fans responded. All spots in Elimination Chamber are now accounted for.

(4) Ryback & Curtis Axel beat Prime Time Players. A basic squash match. Darren Young got pinned in a few minutes and Titus O'Neil never even got in the ring. After the squash, Titus stared at Darren and teased leaving him. Darren grabbed a mic and asked Titus why he would leave him, as they were like family. O'Neil said that they were not family and that Young was a loser and that made Titus a loser for the first time in his life. O'Neil then beat down Young, leaving him bleeding from the mouth outside the ring.

(5) Kofi Kingston pinned Damien Sandow with SOS. Kind of a blah match. The crowd liked Kofi, but the wrestlers were having a hard time getting the crowd's attention.

(6) Cody Rhodes (w/Goldust) beat Road Dogg (w/Billy Gunn). Good singles tilt. Before the match, Hunter told Michael Cole that the Rhodes Bros. would get a title re-match on Raw next week in a steel cage to ensure fairness and to prevent Brock Lesnar from further interference. Rhodes out-worked Road Dogg, but the Outlaws seem to be in great shape and were WAY over with the crowd. During his intro speech, Road Dogg referenced the infamous cancelled John Denver concert in Toledo in the 1970s. Rhodes and Golddust cleaned house to set up the cage match for Monday.

(7) The Shield beat Daniel Bryan, Sheamus, and Daniel Bryan in a six-man tag match.

Backstage, the Wyatt Family cut a promo. They threatened The Shield and it was nice to see Bray let Luke Harper have a turn on the mic. These guys could sound creepy reading a phone book aloud.

Dark Main Event: Daniel Bryan beat Bray Wyatt via DQ when Rowan and Harper interfered. While Bryan had his hands full, Sheamus and Rey Mysterio ran out to make the save. Finally, the heroes vanquished the Wyatts and they all posed, joining in "Yes!" chanting.

Good show, full wind.
