WWE Night of Champions Live PPV Report
September 15, 2013
Detroit, Mich.
Report by DeArron Easley, PWTorch reader

- The crowd was a little dead when the doors open. A lot of it was attributed to cold showers passing over us for a hour. Once inside, many fans gathered around the TV sets to watch the finish of the Detroit Lions vs. Arizona Cardinals game. The Lions list and many fans were dejected. However, the crowd perked up once Justin Roberts introduced the first match.

- There was a local contest between two DJs on Twitter - Bushman from WJLB and Jason the 300 lb. cowboy- to see who was the best DJ in the city. Bushman won and was awarded a replica WWE Championship. Surprisingly, the crowd got into this.

- Pre-show: Tag Team Turmoil: Everyone except for 3MB got pops. The Real Americans, Usos, and Prime Time Players got major pops.

- At the start of the PPV, the crowd was hot. Triple H received a mixed reaction, as expected for a "heel who does face things" type character. Paul Heymen and Curtis Axel received massive boos followed by an "ECW" chant when they came out. The crowd had a nice reaction when Trips declared the IC Title match.

(1) Kofi got a weak pop when he came out. The crowd was very much into the Axel vs. Kofi match and were kind of disappointed that Axel won. It came off as a solid match live.

(2) Divas Title match: Natalya and A.J. got some good pops, while crowd was dead when Naomi and Brie came out. The crowd gasped when Naomi missed a body press, then popped when Natalya applied the double Sharpshooter, but there was an even louder reaction when Natalya tapped to the Black Widow.

(3) World Title match: Rob Van Dam (home-state boy) got a huge pop, while Alberto Del Rio got major heat. There were sporatic "RVD" chants during the match. The crowd was upset at the DQ finish, but popped majorly for the Van Terminator.

(4) Miz vs. Fandango went over like a fart in church. The fans used that time to make up chants for Jerry Lawler, the fan dressed as Randy Savage, "We Want JR," blood, thumbtacks, and head. The crowd popped for the finish because the match was over.

- The crowd gave the Michigan National Guard a standing ovation when introduced

- During the video package for Heymen/Axel vs. C.M. Punk, we saw someone come to the ring and craw under the apron. We found out later it was Ryback.

(5) Punk vs. Team Heyman: Tremendous pop for Punk; tremendous heat for Heyman and Axel. The second biggest pop of the night was Punk making Axel tap to the Vice. Biggest heat moment was when Ryback speared Punk through table and allowed Heyman to pin him.

(6/7) The U.S. Title and Tag Title matches were flat, but the crowd did pop for all participants. However, The Shield got the biggest reaction.

(8) WWE Title main event: Daniel Bryan's entrance was received very warmly; Orton was received with a great amount of boos. The crowd was into this match the most. For the finish, a majority of the crowd was shocked and happy that Bryan won the title and walked out with the belt, BUT everyone is expecting some sort of screwjob and/or referee Scott Armstrong to be "fired" on Raw.

- After Bryan walked back to the locker room, Justin Roberts told us good night and said they will return on Saturday, December 28 (this is Winter Classic weekend in Detroit).

- Overall: the crowd was pretty much into the PPV. Very few seats were tarped off, and most seats that were not tarped off were filled. Overall, a solid show, a majority of the crowd was happy leaving.

Biggest Pops:

(1) Bryan winning WWE Title
(2) Punk making Axel tap
(3) RVD connecting with the Van Terminator on Del Rio / Daniel Bryan's Entrance

Biggest Heat:

(1) Cena on the WrestleMania video package
(2) Ryback helping Paul Heyman
(3) Orton's entrance
