In a rare interview, WWE part-time star Brock Lesnar told the L.A. Times that the main reason why he returned to WWE last year was because they were willing to be flexible on his schedule.

"I left originally because I was a caged animal 300 days a year on the road and they knew that. That was the bottom line - I don't want to be that person," Lesnar said before talking about his current schedule. "I'm at a different stage in my life where I think I've earned all that. That was the only way I could make this happen. They [WWE] played ball and hopefully it's a win-win for both of us. I really do enjoy putting on a show."

Lesnar, who faces C.M. Punk at Summerslam on Sunday, noted that he will be appearing "in at least a couple more WrestleManias" after signing a contract extension earlier this year. He said he believes his UFC run prior to returning to WWE helped give him negotiating leverage with Vince McMahon to have a schedule similar to "The Rock" Dwayne Johnson's.

But, does he have interest in returning to UFC? "That chapter in my life has come to closure, and I'm comfortable with it," Lesnar said. Lesnar also commented on whether he wishes his career ended differently.

"You've always got that part in your mind," Lesnar said about retiring after losing to Alistair Overeem in December 2011. "I do miss it, but I've got to keep myself in check. What I went through the last few years was quite traumatic, not being able to fight like I wanted. I got back on the horse way too soon. Coulda, shoulda, woulda."

Lesnar says his bout with diverticulitis was "bad timing" for his UFC career. He added that he felt like he "wasn't the same guy" in the octagon after his health scare, but perhaps it was a "blessing in disguise" for him to "exit stage left" and return to WWE, where he can simulate violence.

Lesnar played up the idea of not holding back in WWE, as evidenced by the damage done to John Cena and C.M. Punk in high-profile exchanges in 2012 and 2013, respectively.

"You want to portray things so they look real. We're selling tickets and things to people, we're selling entertainment," Lesnar said. "The guys that have got in the ring with me - they have to step up their game because of the intensity."
