TLC PPV News & Notes
-- The return of "Crazy A.J." cost John Cena the main event Money in the Bank ladder match against Dolph Ziggler. By the end of the match, Ziggler retained his World Title MITB briefcase to still receive a future World Title shot.
The finish of the match started when Vickie Guerrero interjected herself into the match. This brought out A.J., who delivered Cena's signature moves to Vickie, waited for Cena to climb a ladder to retrieve the MITB briefcase, and tipped the ladder over, knocking down Cena.
A.J. did not officially turn heel, though. A.J. shot a crazy look toward Dolph Ziggler, who sold shock, then A.J. flashed her crazy smile toward Ziggler and left the ring. An official heel turn would have included an embrace or crazy make-out session. After Ziggler won the match, Cena recovered and sold that he had been conned by A.J.
-- No titles changed hands during the PPV. Big Show retained the World Title over Sheamus by using a giant chair, Antonio Cesaro retained the U.S. Title over R-Truth, Kofi Kingston retained the Intercontinental Title over Wade Barrett, and Eve Torres retained the Divas Title over Naomi, who won a #1 contender's battle royal on the PPV pre-show.
-- The Shield had a break-out performance by defeating Ryback, Daniel Bryan, and Kane in a six-man TLC match that was positioned in the middle of the PPV. The 23-minute match included Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns working as a cohesive unit to pick apart Team Ryback throughout the match. Reigns eventually pinned Bryan to score the win after Ryback was too late to make the save.
-- WWE champion C.M. Punk made an appearance prior to the Shield vs. Team Ryback match. Punk, along with Paul Heyman, appeared in the skybox area for a promo continuing Punk's feud with Ryback. However, Punk did not mention The Rock, who Punk is scheduled to defend the WWE Title against at the next PPV, the Royal Rumble in January.
Throughout the PPV, WWE ran a brief ad promoting Rock's in-ring return at the Rumble, but there was no mention of Rock returning to challenge Punk for the WWE Title.
-- WWE experimented with Alberto Del Rio in a face role. After the 3MB group randomly taunted the Spanish announcers during a Miz TV talk segment, Ricardo Rodriguez tried to make the save for the announcers, which brought out Del Rio. Miz then set up a six-man tag match for later in the show. Since the PPV was in Brooklyn, Miz and Del Rio's partner was revealed as Brooklyn Brawler, who scored a pin to win the six-man tag match over 3MB.
