Buddy Roberts Update: Kevin Von Erich, who feuded with the Freebirds in World Class Championship Wrestling in the 1980s, has revealed more details on Roberts's death this week.

"I talked to Buddy’s wife Janice yesterday. She is taking this well. Buddy was suffering with the cancer, but he was beating it. But it was the pneumonia that got into the one lung and then the other," Von Erich said on the Busted Open satellite radio show, which airs on Sirius 92, XM 208, and Sports Zone on the Internet.

"He had time to make peace. He was just ready to go. You can take some comfort in that, knowing he really wasn’t suffering. He was ready to go and he went. 65-years-old and what a life he had."

Von Erich also reflected on what Roberts meant to him personally and professionally: "He really helped me out a lot. He was really a big help. He was such a tough guy who worked super solid. The kind of wrestling style I wanted to do. He taught me so much and I owe that guy so much. I also have to say this...Michael Hayes, I know how he may come off on TV, but he has a heart of gold. He is really hurting, I guarantee you. The guy is hurting, so remember him in your prayers. This is killing him."

*** Original Story Thursday ***

Buddy Roberts, who was most-known for his role in the Fabulous Freebirds heel group of the 1980s, has died at the age of 65, according to WWE.

Over the last several years, Roberts battled throat cancer. WWE announcer Jim Ross wrote about Roberts's cancer battle in a new blog on jrsbarbq.com: "Buddy had battled, I believe, throat cancer in recent years, while living in the Chicago area and doing construction work there. He only recently fell ill again and I'd know over the past several days that things were touch and go."

Roberts was part of the famous Freebirds trio headlined by current WWE producer Michael P.S. Hayes and Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy, who died at the age of 40 in July 2001. Hayes tributed Gordy and the Freebirds group in a music video released earlier this year.

Jim Ross shared additional stories and memories of Roberts in his latest blog, including Roberts's 1970s work as the original Hollywood Blondes tag team with Jerry Brown.

"I first met Buddy Roberts when he was a tag partner with Jerry Brown as they comprised the Hollywood Blondes. I've said it before, the original Hollywood Blondes of Roberts and Brown were one of the most underrated tag teams ever in the business. They had being bad guys down to a science and their teamwork, timing, and believability were uncanny," wrote Ross.
