WWE on-air heel Paul Heyman confirmed in an interview this week that he was scheduled to leave TV with Brock Lesnar after Summerslam, but he gladly returned when the idea came up to work with WWE champion C.M. Punk. Now, Heyman is talking about potentially working with Punk all the way to WrestleMania 30 in 2014.

"I knew Brock's plan when I agreed to come in and do this deal with Brock. I was very satisfied. If I had just done this run with Brock, I would have been very satisfied," Heyman told Peter Rosenberg of Hot 94 radio in New York City this week.

Now, Heyman and Punk have collective goals for their characters. "If that (their association) leads to WrestleMania 30, that would be great. Right now, our focus is where we take his character for WrestleMania 29," Heyman said, noting the goal is finding Punk a "spotlight match" at WM29 and creating moments along the way.

Along with Punk recently confronting Mick Foley, Bret Hart, Jim Ross, John Cena, and Steve Austin for a THQ video game shoot, one of those "moments" was Heyman's exchange with Stephanie McMahon on Raw 1,000.

"When I had the confrontation with Stephanie McMahon - and I know that there's a lot of people out there saying, 'Oh, everything Stephanie said she meant and it was real' - I hope so! I would want it to be that way," Heyman said. "I wouldn't want it to be any other way because if she's going to deliver - and she delivered her message phenomenally - that's great. It's riveting."

Heyman continued: "This is my goal. We did a segment on television on Raw 1,000 and I can't imagine that you'll ever have a career retrospective on Stephanie McMahon and not include that clip. If it takes Steph using her personal feelings about me to bring it, then bring it! I hope she meant every word that she meant."

Heyman said the segment with Stephanie was part of what has excited him to return to WWE television - the line being blurred on fact and fiction with Lesnar and Punk, as well as being able to play a silent "scumbag" with Punk.

"I think one of the luxuries I have been afforded since I have come back is the line has been blurred since Day One with me," he said. Heyman referred to UFC references with Brock Lesnar, noting it had not been brought up before on WWE TV. "Although it's within the realm of the storyline, there's nothing I'm saying that I don't truly believe in," he said. Heyman added that it's easy for him to advocate for Lesnar, as well as Punk. "The way I deliver the message is an asshole, because that's my character, but there's nothing I'm saying that I have to be scripted to say," Heyman said.

Heyman noted he and Punk "are winging it half the time" when on the air, and it has been challenging for him to go from a mouthpiece to a silent background player. "It's a whole different way for me to play this character," he said. "It's a new character for me."

"I've never really been silent guy. I've always been the one who does the talking for the monster," Heyman continued. "On this one, I shouldn't do the majority of the talking. And, it's a totally different way to play it. With Brock, I did all the talking. With Punk, it wouldn't make any sense for me to do the talking."

Heyman noted the end result has been reinforcing Punk as a heel through association with his "scumbag" character. He added that the closest he came to this role was 20 years ago with Rick Rude in the Dangerous Alliance.
