WWE Smackdown TV taping report

After the dark match, NXT taping, and Superstars taping, WWE taped this week's Smackdown episode.

Smackdown 4/22 SPOILERS

There's an amazing new look to the Cole Mine. Also, a stacked line-up: Corre vs. Big Show & Kane for the Tag Titles, Wade Barrett vs. Kofi Kingston for the IC Title.

Rey vs. Cody is the opening match. Awesome, must-see opening promo from Rhodes. Very clever and funny.

(1) Rey Mysterio beat Cody Rhodes clean. Fun match. They brawled into the crowd afterward, and then around ringside.

Next was couple's therapy with Lay-Cool. McCool attacked Layla.

(2) Jack Swagger beat Trent Barreta via submission with the anklelock.

Awesome Kong hype video aired next before the Tag Title match.

(3) Big Show & Kane beat The Corre (Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel) to capture the WWE Tag Titles. Matt checks in: fairly decent five-minute match. Ezekiel Jackson tried to get involved near the end, but Kane took care of him while Show got the pin on Slater after a chokeslam.

(4) Drew McIntyre beat Chris Masters. Nice little match. Bizzaro world with Drew over as a face in the U.K.

(5) Intercontinental champion Wade Barrett beat Kofi Kingston with assistance from the ropes to retain the IC Title.

Alberto Del Rio's retirement party for Edge was next to close the show. Comedy gold from Del Rio. Edge & Christian interrupted the party. Edge got involved, and the show ended with Christian holding the World Title belt atop a ladder (to promote Christian vs. Del Rio in a ladder match at Extreme Rules).

After the taping concluded, Christian gave a speech followed by Edge's farewell address. Great moment.
