Recently released WWE wrestler Kaval (Low-Ki) says he asked for his release when he determined WWE had no plans for him on Smackdown after winning NXT Season 2.

"I asked for my release, both WWE and myself agreed that it would be best if we didn't continue doing business together at this current time," he told Darren Wood of Slam Wrestling in an interview.

"They had no path for me or any plans in the near future so instead of wasting my time and my body for them, I decided it was time to move on."

Low-Ki says he decided to make the career change after seeing how he was booked in matches on Smackdown.

"I think the way they scheduled my matches on Smackdown, after NXT it was obvious they weren't behind me," he said. "I was chosen to win NXT Season 2 by the fans; they wanted to see me do well and at first it seemed like the company wanted me to do well."

Low-Ki says he left WWE on positive terms for a potential return down the line, but his ultimate career goal is not to be accepted by the "biggest (wrestling) company in the world."

"I'm sure for others they have always wanted to go to WWE but for my personal goal it was always to go to Japan and to be accepted by the Japanese culture as a competitor," he said. "WWE was just a bonus for everything I have worked so hard for in my 13 years in this business."

As for his future potentially in TNA or ROH, Low-Ki said, "At the moment business is down in pro wrestling and I can't really say where I would like to go but I have obviously had strong connections in the past with ROH and TNA."

Link: Low-Ki also covers other subjects in the in-depth interview with Slam Wrestling worth reading at slam.canoe.ca.

Caldwell's Analysis: Low-Ki makes a good point about not wasting his body for WWE if he felt he would not advance past a certain level. There's always the risk of missing an opportunity to break out when he could have least expected it, but a wrestler only has so much time in the ring. The bumps and travel working WWE's full-time schedule isn't worth the long-term bodily damage for some wrestlers, especially when they feel they've already hit the glass ceiling.
