WWE Smackdown TV taping report
December 7, 2010
Dayton, Ohio
Report by Benjamin Tucker, PWTorch reader
Following the NXT and Superstars tapings, WWE taped Friday's episode of Smackdown.
Smackdown SPOILERS for Friday, December 10
Michael Cole, Josh Mathews, and Matt Striker were on commentary. Todd Grisham was not on commentary.
Also of note on NXT, Daniel Bryan has still never won a match on NXT.
Kane came out (no intro) to ask for Paul Bearer's release. He says he's not a monster and that he has feelings. His heart's being ripped out and Edge is the real monster. Edge appeared backstage and "practiced" using a chair on Paul Bearer. Kane of course ran away to the back where Edge teased Kane with another dummy.
(1) Jack Swagger beat Kaval. Swagger dominated at first but Kaval made a comeback. Kaval "injured" his leg, leading to Swagger getting the advantage. Kaval mounted a comeback but kept selling the leg. Swagger eventually got him in the Anklelock, where he tapped.
Swagger got a mic and said that what he did is how things are done, and that Kofi Kingston shouldn't have become #1 contender last week. He's the 5th face on Mt. Rushmore, Jack Swagger!
(2) Hornswoggle beat the Soaring Eagle. Hornswoggle gave it bird feed to distract it, then tried to eat it. Then, he slapped the bird, but was knocked down and stomped. The bird missed the Ballin' elbow (seriously) and Hornswoggle got the win with the Tadpole Splash. At least it's over...for now.
Teddy Long welcomed the new WWE tag champs, Santino and Kozlov, to Smackdown. Santino then sang "We are the Champions" before being interrupted by Chavo, who challenged them to a tag match.
A Kofi Kingston ad aired.
Ziggler was interviewed and said that Kofi is a life-long contender, while he's a champion.
(3) Kofi Kingston beat Intercontinental champion Dolph Ziggler via DQ; Dolph retained the IC Title. Kofi has some new pyro. Vickie introduced Dolph. Rapid pin attempts by Kofi to start things. "Controlled frenzy" offense by Kofi that sent Dolph to the outside. Dolph gained the advantage outside and brought Kofi back in the ring. More basic offense preventing Kofi from making comebacks. A few restholds by Dolph, but Kofi flipped him into the turnbuckle. Kofi made a comeback and did a missile dropkick for two with a distraction by Vickie. Kick to the head by Dolph, then a cross-body by Kofi for two. Suplex reversed into a sleeperhold by Dolph. Kofi rammed into the corner but had Dolph for the pin when Swagger came out for the DQ and put Kofi in the Anklelock.
Edge knocked a dummy off a ledge and scared Kane more.
Masterlock Challenge time with "Dashing" Cody Rhodes. Cody cleaned the seat, then sanitized his hands. Hilarious. Afterward, he tried to file Masters's nails, but Masters touched his face, causing Rhodes to freak out. While occupied, Masters knocked him out with the Masterlock.
Chavo's partner was Drew McIntyre.
(4) WWE tag champions Santino & Kozlov beat Chavo Guerrero & Drew McIntyre. McIntyre mixed it up with Santino and Kozlov, then tagged in Chavo, who worked over Kozlov. Chavo and Kozlov made hot tags with Santino getting the advantage over McIntyre. McIntyre got the advantage but was blind tagged by Chavo, who missed a frog splash and ate the Cobra for the win.
Afterward, Chavo got the Future Shock DDT.
The Raw Rebound aired. ... Lay-Cool was advertised for next.
(5) Unified Divas champion Natalya (w/Beth Phoenix) beat Layla (w/Michelle McCool). Rapid pinfalls to start, then Layla got the advantage when McCool distracted Natalya at ringside. Double clothesline, and Natalya soon capitalized with a Sharpshooter to win after McCool failed in her attempt to help Layla.
(6) Edge & Rey Mysterio beat World Hvt. champion Kane & Alberto Del Rio. Kane didn't show up, so Long made it a handicap match. Double-teaming on Del Rio to begin the match. Del Rio was knocked to the outside when Kane came out. Edge and Kane fought to the back when Del Rio got a distracted Mysterio. After some matholds, Rey made a comeback. Backstage, Kane knocked a "dummy" off a ledge that was actually Paul Bearer. Yep, he's dead. On the outside, Del Rio attacked Rey. Back in the ring, Rey came back and hit Del Rio with the 619 to win. End show.
By the way, Del Rio vs. Rey was changed from a tables, ladders, and chairs match to just a chairs match.
