WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross returned to Raw TV on tonight's Old School three-hour episode of Raw for the first time since June 2008 when Ross was "drafted" to the Smackdown brand.

Ross, making a one-off appearance, was brought out in the third hour of the show to call the main event of U.S. champion Daniel Bryan vs. Jack Swagger, who shares Ross's University of Oklahoma affiliation.

Michael Cole entered heel mode and mocked Ross throughout his call of the match with Jerry Lawler. Ross mainly ignored Cole, who also mocked the Bryan vs. Swagger match.

After Bryan's victory over Swagger in an 11-minute match, Ross swatted at Cole with his trademark Cowboy hat and left the ringside area.

"Had a blast 2nite seeing so many old friends @ Raw. Working w/ King again was a hoot. It felt like old times," Ross said on his Twitter page following Raw.

"Jim Ross" immediately became a Trending Topic on Twitter. Chris Jericho also posted on Twitter: "The difference between Jim Ross and Michael Cole is the difference between Paul Newman and Paulie Shore."

Caldwell's Analysis: Ross sounded like he hadn't missed a beat after his last WWE broadcast over a year ago on Smackdown. It was refreshing to hear an all-time great announcer call the action with a straight face and focus on the in-ring talent. Cole was entertaining at times acting like a fool, but his character just doesn't fit on WWE's flagship show trying to sell the WWE product. Ross's voice does fit.
