WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross published a new blog on jrsbarbq.com today covering a number of subjects, including this week's Raw, the NXT Season 3 premiere, big promises from existing promotions and new promotions in the wrestling marketplace, Bryan Danielson's LeBelle Lock maneuver, and other subjects.

Ross briefly said he believes this week's Raw "was a better, more entertaining broadcast than was Raw 900." He also called the new season of NXT that premiered last night "different."

"I'm willing to give the concept a chance to hook me unlike some who have emailed me lambasting the process after an hour or less of watching it," Ross said. "I could just have just seen my big ass up in the ring Tuesday night 'dancing' if I had been on the broadcast team. Happy to have been watching on Syfy. Those who were doing some 'dancing' were merely doing their jobs folks, having fun and attempting to entertain us as directed. Many fans need to 'Lighten Up Francis.'"

Later in his blog, Ross talked about some promotions attempting to "reinvent the wrestling wheel" with the promise of big concepts. Also, without referring to TNA or Hulk Hogan by name, Ross addressed Hogan's comments yesterday about "changing the business" or doing something revolutionary with a new storyline.

"To attempt to overhaul the game and how the wrestlers engage each other, etc. is a waste of time. Fundamentally sound, world class athletes of varying body types will always be in vogue," Ross said.

"This may not be the cool answer or the hip solution but I still feel that fans tune into a wrestling show primarily to watch people compete, among many other ancillary facets. Shame on me for wanting to see physicality and more wrestling inside a wrestling show."

Caldwell's Analysis: I believe those sets of comments reflect the mindset of viewers trying to reconcile WWE's NXT program (and pro wrestling TV in general). WWE devoting TV time to Michael Cole, Josh Mathews, and Tony Chimel as "characters on the show" seems like a less-than-valuable investment compared to finding out whether the Rookies can actually wrestle and setting up some compelling match-ups that will perhaps interest viewers on a weekly, "episodic" basis. And if the Divas on NXT can't wrestle a competent five-minute match, then why are they in WWE's developmental system?
