WWE Smackdown TV taping report
June 29, 2010
Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
Report by Rick Gasper, PWTorch reader

Smackdown TV taping for Friday, July 2

The Smackdown taping began with Jack Swagger coming out to cut a promo about last week's match with Big Show. He also complained about losing the World Hvt. Title at the Fatal Four-Way PPV.

Big Show interrupted selling his ankle injury. Show promised to break Swagger's jaw. As Show started to enter the ring, Cody Rhodes jumped him. Swagger and Rhodes KO'ed Show and started working over his ankles. Rey Mysterio then made the save and helped clear the ring.

There was a follow-up angle for the live audience as Swagger decided to invoke his re-match clause in a World Title match against Mysterio. Smackdown GM Teddy Long then confirmed the title match and said it will be in a steel cage later tonight.

(1) Intercontinental champion Kofi Kingston beat Dolph Ziggler (w/Vickie Guerrero). Kingston hit Trouble in Paradise for the win. Vickie left Dolph in the ring after the loss.

-- Peep Show with Christian: Matt Hardy came out as the special guest. Christian told Hardy he can't win the Money in the Bank ladder match. They went back and forth exchanging words during the segment.

-- Backstage, Cody Rhodes cut another promo about being "dashing."

(2) Kane beat Luke Gallows via DQ. C.M. Punk has his arm in a sling now. The masked SES member made the save for Gallows, causing a DQ. Afterward, Kane chokeslamemd both the masked man and Luke. He then grabbed Punk, but Serina pleaded for Punk.

A video was then shown of Serina in a bar drinking (breaking the SES code) when The Undertaker was hurt. Punk was shown taking her out of the bar, and it looks like she was thrown out of the SES.

(3) MVP beat Chavo Guerrero. Quick victory for MVP.

(4) Kelly Kelly beat Co-Women's champion Michelle McCool in a non-title match.

(5) World Hvt. champion Rey Mysterio & Big Show beat Jack Swagger & Cody Rhodes via DQ. Lots of action. The DQ came when Swagger applied the Anklelock on Rey but refused to break the hold after Rey reached the ropes. Rhodes and Swagger did a number on both babyfaces, and they both limped off after the match.

After the Smackdown TV taping, the ring was set up for NXT, but U.S. champion The Miz was in the ring for a title match. John Morrison then cut a promo on Miz.

Pre-NXT Dark Match: U.S. champion The Miz beat John Morrison to retain the U.S. Title. Morrison missed with Starship Pain and Miz won with the Skullcrushing Finale.

After NXT aired live on Syfy, they set up the cage for the final match of World Hvt. champion Rey Mysterio vs. Jack Swagger for the live card.

Dark Match: World Hvt. champion Rey Mysterio beat Jack Swagger to retain the World Hvt. Title. Rey came out limping and Swagger came out asking why people were not cheering for him. Swagger went on to work on Rey's ankle and had Rey in trouble for most of the match. Rey came back and was able to put Swagger into the cage a couple of times. Rey eventually won with a leap from the top rope for a pin. The match lasted less than five minutes.

Overall, the arena was about half-full and most of the crowd started to leave during NXT. We were at the arena for a bit more than four-and-a-half hours and had a great time.
