WWE Fatal Four-Way PPV Live Report
June 20, 2010
Long Island, N.Y.
John Wentz, PWTorch reader

I attended last night's Fatal Four-Way PPV at the Nassau Coliseum and wanted to share a few notes and reactions.

Although it was unclear for the live crowd when the show actually went off the air - as the show ended rather early - John Cena eventually recovered and got on the mic. He addressed the crowd's "opinion on his ability to wrestle," which drew a nice pop followed by boos and the "You can't wrestle" chants once again.

Cena followed it up by saying that whether he could wrestle or not, we all knew that he could damn well fight. He said he would do that tomorrow on Raw. He called the NXTers "sonsabitches" (PG-13?) and said that a serious epidemic was running through WWE. He then said he would go home upset, as championships come and go, but that he was ready to take those guys out. He then threw the mic down and exited the ring as Justin Roberts dismissed the already thinning-out crowd.

Unfortunately, I arrived towards the beginning of the IC Title match, so I missed the dark match and Vince McMahon's appearance. Otherwise, it was a pretty solid show live. The bonus matches were a nice surprise. No return date was announced, although they seem to be coming to the New York area at least twice a year now.

As always with the New York crowds, they were often in support of heels. Edge and C.M. Punk seemed to get over pretty well, as did Chris Jericho. Interestingly, there were several chants throughout the night. In the nosebleeds, Daniel Bryan's name was chanted throughout the night, but I'm not sure it was picked up on-air. The crowd was also pretty into the whole event, which was better than I expected, with the exception of Miz vs. Truth, which ended up being the sleeper match of an otherwise solid wrestling show.

Rey winning the World Title went down as the shocker of the night. The men were outraged and the kids and women went crazy for him. Sheamus got booed as usual. And I don't care whether Cena is loved or hated, but one thing is for sure: the guy always gets the largest reaction from a crowd no matter where he is. Much the same with Rey, Long Island's men jeered while the kids and ladies cheered.

Everyone seemed to love Orton, and Edge's reaction was again mixed. NXT went over huge when they made their appearance. The result wasn't booed, as I believe the crowd was just happy to see Cena lose and didn't care which of the other wrestlers took home the gold.
