The latest poll numbers from the Connecticut Senate race show former WWE CEO Linda McMahon closing the gap slightly against her Democratic opponent Richard Blumenthal.

Quinnipiac University released a new poll today reporting Blumenthal has a 55 to 35 percent lead. Two weeks ago, Blumenthal led McMahon 56 to 31 percent in a survey of Connecticut voters.

One month ago, Blumenthal led 61 to 28 percent. At the time, Rob Simmons was a potential candidate for the Republican nomination. McMahon then essentially knocked him out of the race by obtaining the nomination at the Connecticut Republican Convention.

"Three weeks after the Vietnam flap, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal has lost a little more ground to Linda McMahon, but he still has a comfortable lead," said Quinnipiac University Poll Director Douglas Schwartz. "Prior to the Vietnam controversy, Blumenthal led by 33 points. A week after the controversy, his lead was 25 points. Now it’s down to 20 points."

One interesting item that came up in the poll was negativity toward McMahon's background in pro wrestling. McMahon's campaign has tried to downplay her background as a "non-factor," but the latest poll results show otherwise.

According to the poll, Connecticut voters have a negative 22 to 43 percent opinion of pro wrestling. Also, they say 36 to 16 percent that McMahon's role as WWE CEO makes them less likely to vote for her.

A positive item coming from the poll is McMahon improving her "favorability" rating. According to poll results, McMahon scored 38 percent "favorable" compared to 35 percent "unfavorable." In last month's poll, McMahon scored 32 percent "favorable" and 39 percent "unfavorable."
