WWE News: Mickey Rourke says he wants to wrestle for WWE to make up for WrestleMania 25 involvement Nov 5, 2009 - 12:25:52 PM
Academy Award-nominated actor Mickey Rourke says he would like to wrestle for WWE after being disallowed from wrestling at WrestleMania 25 earlier this year. Rourke appeared at WrestleMania to hype "The Wrestler" movie, but he was limited in what he could participate in.
According to a report by the U.K. Sun, Rourke says in his new book, "Wrestling With Demons," that a clause in his contract for the Iron Man 2 movie banned him from wrestling Chris Jericho in a one-on-one match because he could have been injured and delayed filming.
Rourke says he walked away from the WrestleMania experience "disappointed" after his only involvement was punching Chris Jericho after Jericho was booked to defeat Ricky Steamboat, Roddy Piper, and Jimmy Snuka in a handicap match. Rourke says he wanted to test his wrestling skills after training for the lead role in "The Wrestler."
"He wants to help the wrestling community all he can having fallen in love with the sport over the course of that amazing movie," said Rourke's spokesman.
Roddy Piper was also not pleased with the match/celebrity angle at WrestleMania. Roddy Piper said in an interview recently that he wants to return to the ring one more time after getting a bad taste in his mouth from the handicap match against Chris Jericho at WrestleMania. Read Piper's complaint.
