WWE News: WWE announces complete details on Big Show's new movie wrapping up filming this week Nov 2, 2009 - 5:34:27 PM
WWE issued a press release today announcing that WWE Studios's new movie "Knucklehead" starring Big Show will conclude filming this week and is scheduled for a theatrical release in spring 2010.
The comedy/drama will feature Big Show's character on a quest to capture $100,000 in an MMA tournament to help pay off debt at the church where he works as a handyman in order to save the church. The laughs are apparently contained in the lessons Show's character learns along the way to the tournament.
The movie is directed by Michael Watkins, who has numerous connections to WWE through NBC Universal. Watkins has directed USA Network series including Monk, In Plain Sight, and Royal Pains, as well as the Syfy series Warehouse 13.
“I asked Michael Watkins to join our team because he is the consummate director and he makes me laugh harder than anyone I know,” said Knucklehead producer Mike Pavone. “He was also the perfect director to help set up the template moving forward for WWE Studios’s new slate of films.”
WWE will apparently be moving toward comedies and dramas aimed at families, which is their target demographic with weekly TV and PPV content. In the past, WWE's movie offerings have typically included guns, explosives, and cookie-cutter action movie scripts.
