WWE/ROH News: Recap of Bret Hart's radio interview promoting ROH and talking Vince McMahon Sep 25, 2009 - 12:34:49 PM
WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart shared a bunch of stories about Vince McMahon during a radio appearance in Boston today, but he was not asked anything about current WWE storylines or whether he would be open to a WWE return.
Hart appeared on 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston this morning to promote his appearance at tonight's Ring of Honor show in Boston. Radio hosts Toucher and Rich mainly focused on Bret Hart's book and led him into re-telling his side of the story on the Montreal Screwjob from November 1997.
Hart said people who say he should have just dropped the WWF Title on the way to WCW don't understand the full context of the "Bret Hart brand" being severely affected in Canada. He singled out Tito Santana as one former WWF wrestler who has perpetuated that belief.
Hart also talked in-depth about the punch he delivered to McMahon in the dressing room after the Montreal Screwjob.
"A lot of guys wish they would have done that," Hart said about knocking out McMahon. "A lot of people probably still think they should have done that."
Hart's first Vince McMahon story was from the early 1990s when Jim Niedhart and he gave McMahon their Hart Attack finisher in a strip bar and injured McMahon's neck. Hart repeated most of the story from his book and mocked the Legion of Doom for giving McMahon a weak version of the Doomsday Device because they "didn't have the balls" to pull it off.
Hart was also asked about Goldberg injuring him with a superkick in WCW that ultimately ended his wrestling career. He was asked whether Goldberg was irresponsible.
"A little bit," he said. "To be honest, it's more the fault of the people who put them there waving him through to the very top. I don't think he ever injured me or anyone else purposefully. He just wasn't trained right."
Caldwell's Analysis: Hart was articulate and humorous in the interview, which is worth listening to in the car or if you have a 30 minute break during the day to hear about some classic wrestling stories. Hart didn't discuss any news-of-the-day topics or his ROH appearance tonight, but the radio hosts plugged ROH at Boston U. tonight and the HDNet show on Monday nights several times.
