This week's WWE Raw guest host Sgt. Slaughter says he was offered a sponsorship deal with Hasbro Toys to help promote the new GI Joe movie. Slaughter says WWE chairman Vince McMahon was on-board to give WWE publicity, but WWE attorneys nixed the idea.

Slaughter said on WZTK's Brad & Britt show in Charlotte yesterday that he was told by WWE attorneys that there was a conflict of interest with their current toymaker, JAKKS. Slaughter said they feared JAKKS would sue. WWE attorneys added they were through dealing with JAKKS on legal issues after several years of disputing the toy manufacturer in state and federal court.

Slaughter said he resolved the legal issues after the movie came out and he will be able to work with Hasbro if there is a sequel to the movie or follow-up promotion. Perhaps when the DVD comes out, Slaughter's likeness will be used to promote the movie.

Slaughter's history with Hasbro and WWE dates back to the 1980s. Slaughter left WWE because of a financial dispute with Vince McMahon, who wanted a cut of Slaughter's merchandising deal with Hasbro where Slaughter was featured in GI Joe TV cartoons, comic books, and action figure series.

When Slaughter's contract was up with Hasbro, McMahon called him in the early '90s to see if he was ready to do business again. Slaughter recalled thinking McMahon was going to turn him into the greatest babyface of all-time. At their meeting, McMahon told him Hulk Hogan needed an opponent. Slaughter recalled saying: "Oh, you're going to turn Hogan bad?" McMahon shot back: "No, I'm going to turn you bad." That led to Slaughter becoming an Iraqi sympathizer and feuding with Hogan during the Persian Gulf War.

Slaughter also worked with Ultimate Warrior when he returned to WWE. Slaughter shared stories about Warrior's wild mood swings and threatening to beat him up in the locker room if he was going to refuse to wrestle in the ring.

"Warrior was steroided up to the gills when it was okay to do it - if you want to say that. He was always in these mood swings," Slaughter said. "I would go to one event and he would be fine. By the time we got the evening event, we wouldn't want to wrestle. Couple of times, I had to slap him around and make some sense of him."

Slaughter also suggested Warrior took liberties in the ring and wasn't concerned about protecting his opponent. "Art of the business was performing and not hurting the opponent," Slaughter said.

At the beginning of the interview, Slaughter briefly touched on his guest-hosting duty from Raw. He joked that they had some "tongue-in-cheek" fun at the expense of the Canadian audience. Apparently WWE is dusting off the old motto that if a segment or series of segments bomb, just say it's tongue-in-cheek.

Slaughter also talked a number of subjects related to working with Ric Flair (before he was Ric Flair) at Verne Gagne's "training school" in Minnesota, the famous bloodbath with Pat Patterson at Madison Square Garden, wrestling in the Carolina territory, and provided some revisionist history on the Montreal Screwjob involving Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart.
